Man this aquarium is just fascinating. Congratulations! Would you like to know its dimensions (width, height and depth) and what lighting are you using? 2 x 3000k lamps and 2 x 4000k lamps? Am I right? 8 hours a day?
Thank you, and sorry for my late response. It's a 120 gallon tank, and 23 inches high, 22 width, and 69 inches long. As of now, it has 8 Fluwal 3.0 lights for 10- 11 hours/ day
You've been doing this for over 40 years, congrats, job well done.
Bet there was a long learning curve especially before the invention off computers, internet or RUclips to learn the craft of both fish keeping & aquatic plant hobby.
Please, a moment of silence for all the countless of fish & plants that made the ultimate sacrifice in order for the hobbyist to make continuing forward progress, Amen! Lol right?
Oh yeah ! Indeed a long, painful , and an expensive learning curve ... Books used to be my main source , and fish store's only. One of my biggest 'Gift' was an Eheim electronic Internal filter in 1982 ! Before all we had is air pumps to use filtering waters. My first aquarium was a mason jar with some guppies in 1976....

how do you have your filters set up? spray bar or single outlet pipe?
where do you have them placed and do you have co2 in each output?
sorry for the questions, I have the same two filters and struggle to get optimum flow.

Its' a single outlet pipe from the 2262 for maximum flow in to the tank, in the right corner middle hight, but before the same line split into the co2 reactor, soI can control the flow speed through it. The small Eheim (2217)is left alone circulating the aquarium also in the right corner, pushing flow tot he front glass.Sorry, but non of them is visible deliberately. I covered all pipes with black sand mixture of (two component epoxy,mixed with sand), same as the back glass wall, and the right side wall of the tank, for maximum blending.

Wow. Go big or go home. I really like eheim equipment they have great quality but your tank is just cool. This walstad method did you do it without fish in the start and does the soil leach out a bit and turn the water brown. Is any garden soil OK? I will try it in a small experiment and see
All the animals went in from the very beginning , however I used some old bacteria colony from an other filter to start. I loaded the bottom with one inches of clayish garden soil from my backyard , then I covered it with two inches of fine sand. No visible soil leach at all... A week later things went wrong , very wrong ! The aquarium struggled for its bacterial balance , and it looked like a toxic waist land for almost two months ! Frequent water changes was the only thing I could do , but later everything just turned out fine... No algae break out happened during this time. All it takes is persistence and patience.

What method or products used for dosing?
Use EI method or Flourish products?
Did you decide to add anything to the dirt/ organic potting soil like red clay for iron or florite?
What did you use to cap the dirt, sand, pea size gravel?
As of now Flourish, but Im researching other ways like (dry ferts)

For a tank this size with so many awesome plants do you need to have a very high bubble count like 10 per second in order to keep your CO2 drop checker in the green?

Do you have a running total as to how many fish are currently in this tank?
With all the plants & hiding spots how do you even know if they're a few hundred dead fish behind that nice red plant? Lol
The tank is 120 gallons. 22 x 23 x69 . As far as the number of fishes around 40-50 guppies, and 30-40 otocinclus catfish. Way too many fish for me ! Usually I design planted tanks with much lesser stock, but my visitors and especially the young kids criticized the lack of action in the aquarium, so I filled the tank (:

I'm using electronic regulators on pressurized co2 tanks and I recommend the same for all size aquariums.

How have you set up your filter intakes and outflows mate?
The intakes are always together in the same corner with the outflows. This way, it's more effective, then to put them in to the opposite corners.

Thanks, Mostly I dose the Flourish liquid line, iron, etc.. However my main source of fertilizer ( I believe), is a lots of clay is garden soil under the sand

What's the red plants 4 in the front? and that red one on the right hand side ? I'm looking to bring more colour to my tank as getting annoyed at green
On the front its Alternanthera Reineckii "mini", and on the right hand side is Alternanthera Reineckii
How long does dirt last before needing replacing?
This depends on many various factors. Type of soil, quantities in the given tank, plant use, temperature etc. I used black clayish soil from my backyard, so I expect at least 5-6 years of "good bacteria service" from it or more.
can i ask why you fillted youre aquamedic with those rings?
To make sure that no co2 bubbles return into the tank, and for maximum diffusion.

6 Fluval 2.0, and two Current same size light. All together 8 ligts.

One of the few plant aquariums on youtube that seems to have fish in it. Whats the point of "tech" if you are not going to keep as many fish as you like?
For many people plants nowadays are as more important than fish. And I think its a good trend. In this particular case, I would like this really beautiful tank more if it werent overcrowded with fish.

Nice tank. Lots of trimming on. This one. How many hours of fun do you spend tending to this per week/month?
Because of the water changes are basically automatic, the only labor intensive work is to constantly clean the glass .As far as trimming, it's fast and less than one hour a month

Just remove the "shark"..it makes the whole tank look smaller. With just guppys,that looks like a monster tank.
