"Puttin' On The Ritz" was originally written by Irving Berlin in1927. Taco a Dutch musician released a synth-pop cover version of this song in 1982. It was his biggest hit & is considered a "one hit wonder".
Notes: x Had no idea that was a cover, and by Irving Berlin. The only musical I ever saw was Irving Berlin's White Christmas in the Pinewood Bowl (Lincoln, Nebraska). x Fred Astaire is from Omaha, Nebraska x One of my high school classmates, who graduated with me in 1998 (class of 36) was nicknamed Taco. x Taco played recently on The 80s Cruise and was filmed briefly by the Millers, the couple of Our 80s Life (RUclips Channel).
Gen X Video Request (GXVR): Say No To Drugs: Retro Music Video (1988) - Our 80s Life (on RUclips) (ruclips.net/video/gvqGl4plI6Y/видео.html) How great of a video is this? It's a total gem by THE 80s channel. If you love the 80s, welcome to heaven.
Around this time there was also break dancing which to me is what this song is trying to appeal to towards the end of the song. I recall 1983 with the song "wishing" by flock of seagulls a cousin very much into break dancing was doing the robot to the song.
I dunno if Taco is from Germany but had success in that country.... Kraftwerk is from Germany, a major influence on hip hop music/breakdancing being the pioneer of electronic music 😮
