Glazing painted furniture to look like wood was popular back in the day. Big impact for little money and time. I remember doing baseboards in the house we grew up in. Really easy but man we made a mess! Love to see it's coming back around. Now I want to paint a hand me down laminate table and bring back memories of projects with my Mom.
Thanks for sharing! Love this! Yes, there is a video that is 8 years old from HGTV with this technique and it looks like it was filmed in the early 2000s or late 1990s. And it sounds like it had been around longer than that. Love how things come back around.
Shout out to Black Sheep House. On one video, the grain lines go horizontal all around, but I think I like the vertical taped off technique for realism, even though it takes longer. Behr makes a stain/poly product that adds color that might be cool to experiment with on this technique.
@@ChristinaMuscari however I took your flotral and silk mixture recipe (using opulent) for the ‘grain lines’. You did this on your China Cabinet to buffet makeover. Then no top coat is required and it leaves a nice matte durable finish. Shannon uses glaze, which works great but takes several days to dry and then topcoat. So I use your trick for the grain using an all in one paint. It is quicker and I love the finish. Dixie belle seems to have a new glaze formulation with a longer open time. But I am sticking withe the glaze option/application you demonstrated.
Dear Christina, thank you so much for your videos! 😊 I just started my own channel and uploaded my first RUclips video and knowing now how much work one video is, I appreciate your work even more. Thank you so much! ❤
This looks soo good!!! Is the glaze like a gel stain? I am in Germany and we don't get Dixie bells glaze. Do you have any recommendations what i could use instead?
Wow it turned out beautiful ❤I’m doing this technique while I’m watching you, with other stuff and if I would had seen this a week before😅but it’s okay Im having fun!
I would suggest that you try to keep the brush going straight over the curved parts when dragging through the glaze as opposed to following the curves. Real wood grain doesn’t follow the cuts of the curves. Really pretty end result.
That turned out beautiful! I have a dresser done by my parents in the early 70’s. Question: why do you paint, rather than spray, on the sealer? I know nothing about paint sprayers. 🙂
When you say the flow pretty opened I am having a hard time with this on my Wagner sprayer but do you mean you turn the knob a good amount counterclockwise from the completely tight clockwise position? If that makes any sense at all lol
Tedious but well worth it, beautiful. First time I tried this I followed a tutorial which a real straw broom was used! Nope, don't do it unless your rustic look includes small straw bits in the finish, lol
I waited 2 days for my glaze to dry down. I wanted to use my polycrylic to top coat- and smudged a large section on the table top 😭 I'm doing it again- but I'm spraying a top coat on. I won't have that happen a second time!! No clue why my glaze didn't fully dry, so sad!
The tape in my opinion is not necessary just make this process more work. I do a similar finish all the time and never use tape. Glaze has a long enough work time that if you mess up you can easily fix it.

@ChristinaMuscari our projects were done mid 70's which feels like 20 years ago, not 50 😳
I’ve been using the broom and glaze technique since Black Sheep House showed it. Works great
Me too! Shannon is great.

Shannon made this boom on RUclips for sure.

The color reminds me of the "Blonde" furniture from the 50's! You did a beautiful job!

I'll check it out!
This was so helpful. Taping off areas was so smart. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Will definitely do this application!
WOW that's so beautiful! I love the process and color!
I love it too, you did a great job. I like the whisk brush idea.
Thanks so much! 😊
Love it......Turned out beautiful!!!!!!
Thank you for telling what colors you used. I’m wanting to do that pottery barn look on a table. Thank you so much! 😊
Christina, it looks marvelous!
Oh damn, beautiful
I love the way this looks. And it may be a lot of work... but like you said it is less work than sanding.
That’s beautiful! I love it!!!
I can’t find if you linked or mentioned the brand of sealer you used?
Wow! This turned out amazing! Love the color 😍
Very pretty!
FABULOUS!!!
Fabulous
Thanks for the video ❤

Thank you for sharing this video gonna try !!!
You're so welcome!
It looks great Christina!!
Thank you!!

Thank you for this Christina. I learn so much from you. Would you say that Dixie Belle’s Sand Castle is an off-white?

Turned all the way in the plus sign direction. That means its "open' and more material aka paint will flow through.
Tedious but well worth it, beautiful. First time I tried this I followed a tutorial which a real straw broom was used! Nope, don't do it unless your rustic look includes small straw bits in the finish, lol
🤣 Very tedious, but I love the transformation.

Can this be done on top of an already painted dresser?
Shout out to black sheep house!❤
Where I learned this! Such a fun technique
Yep, Shannon has taught this technique to so many. It’s become super popular among furniture painters again lately. Seeing it all over Reels!
@@ChristinaMuscari you did an amazing job! I’m going to use these products on my next project❤️
This technique has been around for decades. Love that it's making a comeback.
What is the best more of a natural cleaner to use on hardware to remove the years of dirt and grime?
Does it still have a texture feel after top coat or is it a smooth finish?
Were you able to complete this dresser with the 16oz paint or did you have to get more than one?
16 oz was enough!
Does this paint method work if you did strip and sand the wood first?
❤❤❤
OMG how much would you charge to refinish our bed to make it look like a wood stain instead of white??!!!
Where did you get those lifts with the wheels please
So if I don't want to go through Dixie Belle and buy their paint where else can I get this kind of paint?
Its available on Amazon!
What is the paint color did you use?
Christina, where did you purchase your stool?
Amazon!
What all-purpose putty do you recommend
Bondo all the way. Here's a link for you...(it earns commissions 😊) amzn.to/4bFAOrM
👍👍👍👍❤💋
I’d like to purchase this beautiful dresser. Is it for sale? I sent an email. Cannot wait for a reply!
That was not 1980s- late 60s early 70s.
