They dont do mush power or voltage like 35w or less they dont generate mush heat i have one since 2007 too . Just got my self a x16 ps2s slims some with modchip some not with like 9x controllers and av cables and x4 memory cards 128mb 8mb and fmcb memory cards some hdds loaded with games and some x5 fat ps2s which got cleaned inside out . Im happy with all my ps2s . Fixing them ordering parts off aliexpress is cheap and easy ps2 fats i hate dealing with them ps2 slims are reliable better then ps4 &ps5 if you ask me no updated no waiting no liceness no retrictions just put the game and play no overheating and complicated stuff .. Since i got components im enjoying ps2 graphicly more and some bluetooth adaptor i play with my ps4 controller on ps2❤❤
This is crazy. I watched this video to help me disassemble my PS2 so I could change the laser on it. And noticed that mine is labeled SCPH-79001 and yours is SCPH-79002. The one I have was built right before yours.
That shiny thing on the cpu is the thermal pad.. I actually replaced mine with a graphite one and put one on the gpu chip.new larger fan upgrade also...runs like a bear hunting.
That's a myth actually That cold was inside you waiting for a symptom to start the flood It's why so many people "get colds" after eating crisps (potato chips) Because the cold sees the dryness of the throat as an opportunity to strike
The fan can separate into 2 parts so you can wash all the gunk out of the fan blades. Also a dab of oil on the metal pin of the fan will eliminate any noise
I am a Playstation enthusiast and I've gotten a ps2 fat, ps2 slim, ps3 slim, ps3 super slim, ps4 slim, ps4 pro, ps5 disc version. I changed the thermalpad to a Thermal Grizzly Minuspad 8, and changed the battery (since nothing lasts forever). But I love your video 👍
I broke my fan connector trying to disconnect it... Now I removed it entirely and soldered the wires directly. The fan connector is really fragile so be careful if you plan to disconnect it.
@@TheBygoneEra I have a question, so eariler today I had to open my ps2 slim cause my fan tends to get hot every 15-20 mins, so I opened the ps2 slim and got access to the fan, looks very clean and all that, but ps2 tends to overheat evey 15 to 20 mins, what could be the issue, could I need a new fan, and fan tends to make noises.
If the entire area is clean and you are using the ps2 in a relatively well ventilated area (not pushed up against a wall or covered in game cases etc.) then I’d say the fan may be failing and will need to be replaced
My god was that the biggest pain in my ass. I managed to get mine out without breaking it thankfully but it was solid 20 or so mins of just gentle back & forth light pulls

Hey,if you are still reading these comments i recommend using rust converter on these metal shieldings then you can repaint them with spray paint! Did it on my original xbox since it was beyond rusted and it turned out great. Only downside is a bit of paint smell that the paint leaves if you don't let it dry sufficiently. Excellent tutorial otherwise!
Dude you have the longest fingers Ive ever seen, you should play the piano, great video by the way, had mine sitting under the tv unplayed for like 10 years, nnedles to say it was filthy from dust and all kind of stuff, thank you for showing us how to clean it .
That upper tray assembly can be put in a dishwasher. Do not put anything else in with it, and let do not let it run the dry cycle. It gets far too hot. Take it out after rinse and air dust it really good. Leave it open overnight. Thats the best way to refurbish those old PS2 upper assemblies.

I just recently did my fat ps2, and it was nasty. I went into this expecting the same for my slim, but it looked brand new in there, I couldn't believe it.
The spongey pad is a thermal pad to help keep the chip cool, and I personally would have added a small dab of liquid metal onto the processor to help keep it cool since the original paste has dried and crusted off. Other than that getting the eject springs wet and soapy might cause some corrosion issues with them down the line, but it's a 15 year old console haha very easy to get a new one. Nice video tho man.
Liquid metal on a ps2 slim…. The thing does not need that use normal pads is more then enough. Liquid metal is not something you want to spill all over your board it can cause shorts on the board. Yes it happens allot, only use it if you know what you are doing. 👋

Thank you. I have a SCPH-77001 slim PS2 model. It still works great but the CMOS battery needs to be replaced for the internal clock woild not keep the time when I unplug the power brick. I have to set the date and time every time I boot-up my PS2 slim. Can I replace the CMOS battery without removing the laser module?
Hey I’m pretty sure you can change the battery without removing anything else! In most cases (on the ps2 slims I’ve worked on) the battery usually sits right on top!

Idk if anyone still comments on this post but I just cleaned up my ps2 slim it’s slightly different inside then yours it has a way smaller fan and slightly different heatsink Im having an issue with all my games tho after awhile of play my screen starts to go black and come back often and theres a film grain effect and what seems to be a vhs artifact going on too. I have no clue what it could be maybe the thermal pad is bad but I checked to see if it was the reader causing the issue by opening the tray while the game was still going but it still kept going black and coming back.
It honestly sounds like an issue with the av cable. Have you tried it with a different one? If you’ve already checked all that it could be an issue with the plug attached to the board
@@TheBygoneEra it doesn’t happen when I move any cables and the port isnt loose or damaged from what I can see I tried the original wires and new wires I purchased. It only happens 30-40 mins into play not right when I start the console or a game.
@@TheBygoneEra I think it might be a heat issue cause the fan on my slim seems to be slightly smaller then the one in your ps2 i also haven’t used the console since I was 12 im gonna try taking it completely apart giving it a deep clean with isopropyl alcohol and replacing the thermal pad with a better one.
Oh okay yeah if it’s always around that 30-40 minute mark then yeah definitely sounds like a heat issue. A deep clean should help, especially if you’re replacing the thermal pad too. I wonder if there is any room to put a slightly larger fan in there?

Wish you could do mine. I blew about 10 years of storage dust into it blowing the dust from the inside of disk laser area all inside the open lid area. It's caused it to become faulty when It worked perfectly with all the dust sitting on it and built up fluff dust inside the memory card slots and all the slots for wires etc.
It’s not too hard to clean it all out if you just do it the same way I did. But hey if you’re local to the Gold Coast Aus, feel free to drop it off at mine and I’ll happily clean it haha
I lost one of the tiny Phillips screws that goes with one of the 2 brackets that are next to the rail. My question is are the screws at 3:44 holding the brackets on the right the Prime-Line 9121293 Machine Screws, Metric, Flat Head, Phillips Drive type??

Yeah I believe that is one of the signs that the ps2 laser is on its way out. Mine is actually starting to do the same thing. So it’ll need to be replaced
Hey bygone can you please buy a model 3 and clean a ps2 and also i have 2 ps2 model 3 and one of them which i bought was not working so i do not wanna spoil my working ps2 i bought gta san andreas god of war 1 and 2 for my ps2 and it had troubles reading the disc even the USB port is dusty can it be a dirt disc drive or disc driver problem!
It can discolor some plastics, which can cause the laser to have trouble reading disc's. Try using something else first. If you need to use isopropyl alcohol, use a more watered down version. Replacement lasers are available on ebay for $12-25 though if it fails.
Only thing with my 2 ps 2 is they tend to glitch and freeze wiyh certain games......then again the games are old af😂😂😂same with the console...but works fine otherwise

Yes they can definitely be fragile! This one felt pretty strong but I’ve worked on another one in the past where the fan connector was very weak!

I would add a little electronic grease to the disc player moving parts to keep it running smooth and not be as loud.

Hey man how fast does the alcohol you cleaned on the motherboard evaporates?
Usually a couple seconds. The higher the alcohol percentage the quicker it dries

If it doesn't read CDs then it's not so bad, try to clean the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol or windex, but be gentle

What kind of alcohol? Are there places I shouldn’t put it?
It’s isopropyl alcohol. It’s usually safe everywhere provided it’s 100% alcohol however I’d recommend using it only where needed

It will yes, but will just take a little longer to evaporate. Just make sure it’s completely dry before turning back on

2. Will the scan barcode will not remove after I wash and dry my back plastic plates and information of my PS2. For example, the back of PS2 slim you can see the model number and scan barcode. It will remove? I don’t want this to remove it.

I’m sure you could find one eventually, although I don’t think there are too many differences between the two models
I'm wondering if I do this to mine, as well as replace the Lazer if it will work better. Sometimes it takes forever to load and doesn't wanna read discs midway thru game
Yeah a good clean won’t hurt! And I think my one is due for a laser replacement too

Yeah I believe that is one of the signs that the ps2 laser is on its way out. Mine is actually starting to do the same thing. So it’ll need to be replaced

Hey bygone can you please buy a model 3 and clean a ps2 and also i have 2 ps2 model 3 and one of them which i bought was not working so i do not wanna spoil my working ps2 i bought gta san andreas god of war 1 and 2 for my ps2 and it had troubles reading the disc even the USB port is dusty can it be a dirt disc drive or disc driver problem!

Maybe try giving it all a good clean, especially the laser. If that doesn’t help, you may need to up the power going to the laser or replace the laser

Yes you can but only use a little bit!
It can discolor some plastics, which can cause the laser to have trouble reading disc's. Try using something else first. If you need to use isopropyl alcohol, use a more watered down version. Replacement lasers are available on ebay for $12-25 though if it fails.
