So hard to pull is why everybody used to use a tube with peanut oil for shooting McKenzie targets. And then they came out with Rinehart targets which pulled 1/4 as hard. But ASA made a deal with McKenzie and that's why my club doesn't hold ASA shoots, because we didn't have McKenzie targets , because they suck. We said Nope. Also that's why you turn around and put your butt against the target and then pull the arrows, you get a lot more force that way. Thank God for Reinhardt. You watch the next time we do this, all 12's......One year later.....😉😁😎
That’s awesome. The last shoot we had was with our school against some other schools and I was the top male shooter in nasp. Keep up the good work 🔥🏹. I’m also in the 9th grade.
Get some orange sticker dots about half the size of the 12 rings and put them in both of the 12 rings closest to the middle of the 10 ring... AND TAKE PICTURES OF THEM WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE DOTS AND THE ENTIRE ANIMAL.... then take the dots off, look at these pictures before you shoot that particular target... this will give you a great reference of where to start looking at the target on the range...this will get you use to shooting at a specific spot of the animal.
Chris, if you stare at your target for 30 seconds at a known distance, then close your eyes to see it in your mind's eye, then it'll appear a certain size for that distance. Stare at different distances to catalogue the same animal at different distances. And, lighter colors appear farther, and darker closer. Smaller sizes appears further, and bigger closer.
If i can make a suggestion when pulling your arrow. 1. Always lube your shaft. 2. get both hands close to the target and try twisting the arrow while pulling. it's almost like it breaks the suction and they pull way easier
Back when I shot all the time we'd dip arrows in water with a little dish soap in it. The arrows came out of the new targets much easier. FMJ's were expensive to bend when we'd try pull em out of new foam targets
ASA and IBO are different from other tournaments. There is a strategy that goes into it. Knowing what targets to gun for the 12, when to aim center 10. Certain targets like the mountain lion and panther I always for the upper. I’ve also shot enough to know when to aim dead center and take a yard off or add a yard. I’m no pro but if it’s over 40 I will take a yard off and aim left or right of center. The drop for my set up is 1/2” and it puts me in the 12 or I can pull the line for 10.
I was like dude I just orderd your grip, Ive followed u for years and now this! I gotta admit I was gut wrenched for a minute, kinda like when my first girlfriend broke up with me lol. Honestly Chris I appreciate Who You Are what you've accomplished. You inspire many I've followed you and tried to mimic a lot of your ways and teachings thanks for being there for us!
Chrisbee!!! Yup 👍🏽 it’s a lot harder to hit them 12’s at that distance than most people think! And the class your in has some shooters! But having the targets is a plus. After while you will know where to profile and hover. Good luck this year dude!
I always do 30 and 60 yards to get my gaps on my tape. At 20 yards you can be 3-4 clicks one way or the other and it still looks like you're hitting on. Doing it at 30 makes it more critical to get that exact click.
Hey Chris I’ve always found taking a bar of soap and rubbbing some on the very end of the arrow shaft makes pulling monumentally easier and don’t effect arrow performance
I didn’t read all the comments, so this may have already been said, but it helps to spin your arrow in the target before pulling on McKenzies. Just give it a little twist to break it free and it will come right out. Love the vids. Thanks for great content!
Back in the '90s and early 2000s my daughter and I gave up 3D shooting for a while because it was so frustrating to be behind groups of 4 that would take forever on every target. Each guy would pull out his binoculars, then pull out the rangefinder, then adjust his sights, then take forever to shoot, then pull out the binoculars again. Then all 4 would walk up to the target and analyze their hits. Then stand at the target and write their scores. It would take these guys a half a day just to shoot a 30 target course. My daughter and I can get through 30 targets in about an hour or so because we use it as practice for hunting, not scoring.
@@ArcherDelux Exactly. 3D, in my mind, was developed as practice for hunting. Many times, depending on the angle of the target, the best kill shot might not be anywhere near the 10 ring.
Damm those new targets are hard to pull out arrows! Nice video, even pros have bad days and its nice that you show that. It gives confidence to beginners!
What giant circle foam targets are those? Did you make them or can I order them from somewhere? Would love to shoot far at a giant target like that. Thank you!
Delta and McKenzie targets SUCK to pull arrows from! Unless you are shooting goldtips. I don't know if it is the coating on the arrow or what. I shoot carbon Express maxima sd and have shot Easton's and they burn to the foam. I use woody's arrow lube to help or arrow snot. That being said if you shoot Reinhardt targets they pull right out.
Competitive 3d is tough business. One day I'm able to catch most of the lines and finishing 18 or 20 up. The next day I'm missing the line by 1/8" and finishing around even to 2 up. Story of my life...
Seriously you are probably the only pro worth watching your content is genuine and you don’t brag to be the best. I have to mess with you a bit on this one, since I am in Ohio and know the struggle. Those are some true Michigan style bolts holding your arrow rest on, with all of the rust. LOL. For real, great content, great shooting, and best of luck with the ASA season.
Tim Wells of Restless Pursuits has to be the best field archer to date , he shoots flying doves wth no sights , bells and whistles ....bare equipment and he could probably out shoot you 3 out of 5 times , and worse at unknown distances without your range finder ....yeah ...butt buttered ...he's good , right Chris ?
Are you left eye dominant? Nice shooting. Also, isn't the modularity of that sight tape system requiring the user to put a lot of faith in the accuracy and consistency of the manufacturing process? Sorry for the questions. I'm not a competition shooter and I'm genuinely curious. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@averageoutdoorsman9342 yeah definitely don't know that. When I started I was told shoot the direction of your dominant eye, since I shoot guns left I started left. Chris is a good shot either way.

Chris: I’m quitting archery.
Me: Chris you can not do this to me.
I agree
I agree stop talking crazy
Go ahead make my Day ur camera man sucks anyway . Hes supposed to be pointing the camera at the target when u shoot not at u when u release.
@Luke Curnutte Nope I just call how I see it . And this was 8 months ago . And no I dont watch it anyway.
It’s a breath of fresh air to see someone in the hunting and archery industry show some humility. 👍🏻

just commented the same thing then i seen yours

put a 1/2 twist on the arrow, then pull it out.
for arrow lube i use ivory soap on front 4" or so.

I shot 3D, unknown distance for decades. For an all black target, I used to reference the vitals respect to over or the back of the front leg.
Hey uh. Try putting a dot of paint, white red blue yellow whatever and just dot the black target. Get a custom to where that dot is at. Draw on it.

Chris get rid of the lube and get a bar of soap. It's cheaper, not as messy and a whole lot more effective in colder weather.
Should use spotting scope and show where your hit, use it as a reference guide.
Just thought of a new piece of merch....a BEEREAL arrow puller! Carbon splinters in the hand can really hurt.
