You need to take the same approach as Casey the Hong Kong guy. He on purpose met Daniel at the visa centre and kept bumping into him on purpose and as a result Daniel started hanging out with him slowly but surely. So if you are a true fan of his and wanna be friends then take this approach it will deffo work. Daniel is just as lonely as you and craves human interaction.
