Yup. Years ago, when I began playing bass guitar and guitar, I also pulled up my instruments to a similar height. (I also had long hair back then but that's another story. :) ) There's no way one can play like him, if the instrument is dragged down to the knees. Maybe if a monitor cab is used as a prop during solos. Helps keep your wrists more or less as straight as possible.
Thanks for the concert. Gary got a unique style of playin'. When you list a few great player, besides gary: michael manring, jeff schmidt, mo foster, eric czar, eberhard weber, mark egan, jimmy earl, marcus miller , ........ If you like fretless bass and know not all musicans i've listed, give them a try.
Really great! Sometimes I (and many people) get sooo bored with "fusion", mainly these days because much of it it's so homogeneus and 80's driven (Admit it!)... But this here is really refreshing and cool! Cheers Gary!
I'm a big fan of Gary's but I don't like his sound here at all. He usually has a fatter midrangy sound. This sounds like the mids are gone and it's just highs and bass. I don't know if it's a bad miking job, but not a a fan of this sound.
It's ok if you don't like it. He runs his bass through a lot of pedals you know. This is the tone he uses in albums like the masterpiece "Actual Fiction", a landmark in modern fusion. A lots us think it is a rich, fresh tone.
Thank God for Gary Willis, who shows us how to be great bass players. Without him we wouldn't be able to learn by seeing how it's done.
So great! I love Gary's playing and compositions.
Gary Willis is one of the best bass player and a fantastic teacher !
I had the pleasure and honnor to be one of his student at Mi.
Seriously... looking at left hand of Gary at the end of this video... It's hypnotizing. Amazing technique...

Anyone knows songlist??
Does anybody knows the name of the first song?!?! Absolutely killer!!!

OMG. Watching this, I'm out! it's crazy and overwhelming. Wow...
looks like a midi bass?
He has the Roland pickup which allows him to interface with the GR-55 or VB-99, bit more than a midi system but it does handle that as well.
4 baixistas frustrados deram deslike!!
THE OLDER GARY GETS THE BETTER HE PLAYS…

Gary is a better and more schooled player than Jaco!
