Its actually a good story with a good love sidestory. I would say the show is deeper/better than this trailer shows.
Would really recomend, especially if you are a teen. It mention topics like lonelyness, addiction, family issues, gang violence, and prejeduices. It's a pretty good show, with suprising ends and twists.

It’s a little odd that all the “hot girls” in the show are light skinned black women. It’s like dark-skinned women can never be the beautiful popular girl. They really had the chance to change the status quo. BUT I do really enjoy this show - hope a 2nd season comes out .

This show plays it safe in my opinion. With regard to race relations between black and white there is really only one facet of it that is still a hot button issue: a black male romantically involved with a white female.
The main character Spencer not only does not become romantically involved/interested with any white females at his new school he never so much as has eye contact or even a single interaction with any of them in the ENTIRE SEASON.
In a show that is supposed to explore boundaries and cultural issues about a black boy from Crenshaw moving to a white school in Beverly Hills, to have an invisible wall between him and every single white female in the school (the only girls the writers allow him to interact with are the only 2 black girls at the high school lol) is pretty lame and btw just how racists (black and white) think it should be

I went Crenshaw High in the recent class of 2004 .never was a shooting right outside of the game.the football program we have beyond surpasses that of a Beverly Hills high or any school on that side of town. So again this is unrealistic.
More than that the academic program has 3 schools in 1 when I was the now it's 2 . It bolsters a gifted magnet program, teachers training program, and standard high school program. Advanced placement classes included. So no this show isn't real a star player at Crenshaw is only going to transfer to a better program not worse .
