Man, this play through has it all. Nifty trick shots, excellent coordination including navigating through anus tightening spikes and endless pits, as well as cool short cuts with our friend Rush the pup, and lastly, corny but hilarious jokes. It even had one really close call! This guy knows how to play a Mega Man game, I doubt I could still play this way anymore, but there is no doubt a professional here walks among us, seeking no entitlement or recognition, he just simply walks in and saves the day with his heroics. Again, this play through rocks!
It's called "Pause Cancelling". Normally you have to wait for Black Hole Bomb to go through its cycle, but if you go to the pause menu and exit out, Black Hole Bomb disappears so I can use it over and over to kill an enemy faster via in-game time. You can use this same trick to beat Twin Devils in 1 cycle if you're good enough.
Lore run deep, this made me learn more about the series than i ever wanted to know. I was confused cuz im familiar with up through mega man legends, and not much past that weird gamecube era after it. This looks pretty neat actuslly
As a hardcore MM fan, i have to say you did a great job. Never thought about using the R.Coil for ladders and such. hmmmm... I thought 40:06 was ok, granted its only my second playthrough.
You make this look so easy but I never truly appreciated how good this run is until I actually played the game very recently. It's so frustratingly challenging and unfair, I think I died upwards of 20 times the first time I beat this.
That's what I figured - I was just amazed at how you made almost no real mistakes throughout the entire run. I can't even beat a level of that game without dying at least once. Anyway, awesome run.
I have deep respect for this speedrunner, because this game looks freaking difficult. I really don't remember it being like this back then. Hands down.
@tiend15 "Looking better" is all a matter of perspective. But then again, MM8 was built on a 32-bit system (PS1) whereas this was intentionally built to look like a throwback to the old 8-bit games (which were way better). Same as MM10.
great speed run! one advice, on hornet man sub boss, you can use tornado blow on that stupid flower rather than chasing it with Concrete shot! hopefully, if u try again, youll get it faster :3 GG
Not just that, but learning also what weapons to use as well for the stages themselves are also of importance. Plug Man's level can flat out be entirely shut down by the Jewel Satellite. I've managed to pull off a Perfect Run of the level with it. Learning the weaknesses, practice, and using all of Rock's abilities are all key.
@TheNoobmapler The only reason the sounds were used is because 7 and R&F were both SNES games, while 8 was a PSX/Saturn game. Tengu, Astro, and Green Devil were all just restored after 8. Plus 8.5 is R&F's codename.
At 25:30, try using Rush to jump over the shield enemy, and immediately switch to tornado to raise the platform. Saves a few seconds that way, great run though!
Jesus Good Run Mate! Question on the Side: I have made my Directors Account in September 06, yours has been created on August 06... Is there any Trick i have to Know to Upload Videos which are longer than 10 Mins?! I really want to know that =)
Most people consider those the best part of the Megaman series and the reasons why the NES games were arguably the best They're still really enjoyable, and things don't need to be new and original if they're still fun and not boring
It's a brand new game developed by Capcom (makers of all the other Mega Man games) and is available for the Wii (via the Wii Store), Xbox 360 (via XBLA), and PS3 (via PSN).
They made 9 and 10 into the "retro" style cause that is what people love. They did make 8 bit NES remakes of 7 and 8 for emulation. Pretty fun, you should check em out.
I believe she's neither a Harpy nor mermaid. She's actually a Siren, because one of her attacks involves singing, and Sirens were believed to use their songs to lead sailors into shipwrechs.
Great work! Remember that sliding can improve your speed, as well as quick-changing weapons. Finally remember that there are times that you can charge the mbuster for additional damage against bosses and strong enemies.
I like how this game uses some music and sound effects from Megaman 1 & 2. Best of all that added a first female robot master. God I love this game and I can't wait to get this for my Wii. Megaman rules!!!
For all you fellow Mega Man fans out there, just wanted to let you know about Keiji Inafune's new game "Mighty no. 9", a spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise. The concept looks really nice, and is currently on track for a PC release, but there is a possibility of it being ported to consoles as well! If interested, please take a moment to look at Inafune's Kickstarter page (type in Google "Inafune Kickstarter Mighty no. 9") about this new project. Here is hoping all works out!
another strat that will shave I feel a serious few seconds off jewel man, right before the first swinging platforms....you do some pretty intense menu switching...you can easily jump over the rock carts and put out some well time buster shots to take care of the green falling spinning spikes, and never even bat an eye at the cart rock throwers....just jump em..the timing is actually very natural I was just messing around with it earlier
1 is harder than 9. 1 has it unfair or repetitive moments that isn't well crafted good than what 9 did & 2 is kinda hard if you're playing it on hard mode.
While the main part of the game is the same, those guys have an advantage being that they can buy anything from the shop to give them a heads up. Which if that was done, it would be a separate category at SDA.
There actually is, if you watch the intro video to the game. Apparently Mega Man "hasn't fought in a while" (likely a joke reference to the length of time between MM8 and MM9) and has gotten rusty, thus his skills aren't up to prime.
If I remember right, the main game on WiiWare was 1500 Wii Points ($15), plus a little extra for the DLC. Granted there ARE ways around all that, at least on the Wii side... (google them if you want to know)
Born April 18th 1990 and i know what you mean, bro. Luckly i still own all of my Old Gaming Consoles such as my NES, SNES, N64, SEGA MD, SEGA DC, etc... And the best Part : Its still working =P
No, the current world record is 20:38 by sorantyan. The 31:29 you might have seen associated with it is the real time completion, which I (nor most speedrunners) don't use. The time in my video above is IGT as well, which is displayed at the end of the game.
Sadly, I've been criticized by more true old school MM players as being a poor player. The current single session record is some 5 minutes faster then this run. I have to agree that this can be greatly improved (as can my Mega Man 7 100% run). So it's good, but not great.
Excellent run. I've always experienced delay on the wii, especially with the nes games. I can beat Punch out on original nes, but not the wii. The delay refuses to permit it. How did you overcome this. Like Guitar Hero/Rock Band is almost unplayable on expert. Again, how did you overcome this??
@JamesTylerHope It's not weird, but that's due to naming changes, just like it's "Rockman" in Japan and "Mega Man" in the US. This case, it's "Right" vs "Light".
@PJWification No offense to the poster, but if you read the first one, IT TELLS YOU. "If you don't like annotations or corney jokes, they can be turned off in the lower right corner."
Leviathan and Harpudia were based off of Mega Man X, which takes place in 21xx, long after the Mega Man robot masters have been destroyed. Likely by Zero, but who knows. ^^;;
Yeah I didn't think so, but I had to ask cause MM10 TAS clocks out at around 33 mins or so at the fastest. Just realized how much shorter 9 was XD. Man I really wanna go back and play these now
This run was posted well before any run was posted on SDA. The comment was in regards that the run got rejected, not because somebody else had done a run faster (at the time).
@kidistight Yeah, they changed all the sound effects starting with MM3 (one of the reasons I didn't like that game at the time as much as MM1 and 2, and it still doesn't feel quite "right" to me). MM9 and 10 use the original sound effects from the first two games, especially MM2.
Man, this play through has it all. Nifty trick shots, excellent coordination including navigating through anus tightening spikes and endless pits, as well as cool short cuts with our friend Rush the pup, and lastly, corny but hilarious jokes. It even had one really close call! You could say this is just on virtual console and they'd believe you. They really nailed it with the graphics, they really could fool anyone
If someone told me it was, i wouldn't believe it. Too many sprites without any sprite flicker.
YOU GOT A NEW WEAPON!
-CONCRETE- GUTS SHOT
Yo got -concrete shot- super arm
This sounds better ;)
@1:18
I thought for a split second
"Isnt he gonna swallow that big bubble before he drowns"
but then I realized, Wrong Game
1:18
Dudeee, these are the collest soundtracks i've ever heared on NES. amazing :)
i'll download them from somewhere.
Lore run deep, this made me learn more about the series than i ever wanted to know. I was confused cuz im familiar with up through mega man legends, and not much past that weird gamecube era after it. This looks pretty neat actuslly
MaN! You got legendary timing for all of those enemies you leap over. 5-star video. Keep postin!
As a hardcore MM fan, i have to say you did a great job. Never thought about using the R.Coil for ladders and such. hmmmm...
I thought 40:06 was ok, granted its only my second playthrough.
You got a new weapon! The plug ball!
subtle....
2:35 "ZOMG" Welcome to 2008.
Holy shit you make it seem so easy and yet this is one of the most relenting games i've played.
You make this look so easy but I never truly appreciated how good this run is until I actually played the game very recently.
It's so frustratingly challenging and unfair, I think I died upwards of 20 times the first time I beat this.

Is it just me or is that level music in slash woman's stage friggin awesome?!?!?
Yeah. I love Splash Woman theme.
*slash* woman
You heard it here folks, Slash Man has a wife
I'm loving the in-game comments. Lol.
Really fun to watch! The captions were great. :)
great speed run!

The difficulty of each level makes it that much more enjoyable.
ugh thanks for bringing back my repressed memories of Flame Hyenard. Burn, burn.... it haunts me to the grave.
Take off every ZIG.
Nice job. Glad to see you aren't uber hardcore and still dance on bubbles like a human being would.
Again. Best soundtrack EVARRRRRR!!!
Ps. U're a true MM9 champ m8 :)
At 25:30, try using Rush to jump over the shield enemy, and immediately switch to tornado to raise the platform. Saves a few seconds that way, great run though!
Definitely agree, Contra, Castlevania and Mega Man are some of the best examples of this.
Jesus Good Run Mate!
Question on the Side: I have made my Directors Account in September 06, yours has been created on August 06... Is there any Trick i have to Know to Upload Videos which are longer than 10 Mins?! I really want to know that =)
Watching this at 2am, your joke bubbles did not disappoint.
wow, you made it look easy, and Concrete Man moved more like Hard Man, Love the captions btw, "Move Zig" "For Great Justice" lol Zero Wing
Been there done that. I beat them before you were even BORN, boy. :P
As someone that grew up playing games on said retro consoles, I fully agree with you.
(Born in 1977, I turn 35 in a few months)
Most people consider those the best part of the Megaman series and the reasons why the NES games were arguably the best

There isn’t any sliding or mega buster charge
Fantastic run ^^ one day I'll get to play this game
(Also, splash woman looks so much like leviathan form megaman zero series...)
I like how this game uses some music and sound effects from Megaman 1 & 2. Best of all that added a first female robot master. God I love this game and I can't wait to get this for my Wii. Megaman rules!!!
It's a WiiWare game done in the style of the NES classics.
the music in all these games were always so good.. kudos to the guys who write the music!!!!!
I like how it goes from: Great graphics in MM7 to Pretty good graphics in MM8 To 8bit in MM9.
Man, the comments are gold, cheers man!
Wow, I really enjoyed this! :D
About the Magmaman stage, with the falling magma, could you've pro-fired concrete shots to barely walk under them?
this new megaman game has great graphics i like how they put back megaman 2 musics in there, they really care about fans
The spirit of Megaman 2 is strong with this one.
Here is hoping all works out!
DUDE IT SUCKS EVERYONE HATED IT! AND WANT MM11 THAN THIS!
An as a true Mega Man fan, you didn't forget to pose heroically as you barged through the Robot Master's doors, either. Hahaha!
another strat that will shave I feel a serious few seconds off jewel man, right before the first swinging platforms....you do some pretty intense menu switching...you can easily jump over the rock carts and put out some well time buster shots to take care of the green falling spinning spikes, and never even bat an eye at the cart rock throwers....just jump em..the timing is actually very natural I was just messing around with it earlier
Diamonds aren't forever? sorry bond - Best line ever
Awesome speedrun man X D u should do speed run on megaman 10 as well X D
Though if that were the case, Tornado Man would be like a 200 year older brother.
the annotations are awesome good stuff
Yeah, well...MM doesn't have it. Protoman (a separate playable mode) does.
Damn kids nowadays are using r.coil. I remember the days we had to wait until the stones appeared in Mega Man 1! I'm too old for this!
mm1 is really good but hard
GabrielGamingAregile that’s why Rush came into existence, along with the slide and charge shot.
Oh please. You had Magnet Beam from the start and you know it.
nicely done. this game is incredibly hard. I can't imagine what mm1 and 2 were like
1 is harder than 9. 1 has it unfair or repetitive moments that isn't well crafted good than what 9 did & 2 is kinda hard if you're playing it on hard mode.
While the main part of the game is the same, those guys have an advantage being that they can buy anything from the shop to give them a heads up. Which if that was done, it would be a separate category at SDA.
i used to have a NES and loved playing megaman x passed it hundreds of times never got old to me i was born in june 23, 1997
There actually is, if you watch the intro video to the game. Apparently Mega Man "hasn't fought in a while" (likely a joke reference to the length of time between MM8 and MM9) and has gotten rusty, thus his skills aren't up to prime.
Your timing to dodge all of these enemies is "Godlike."
1:18 That part of the stage is the same thing like wave man.
Hey it is!
it's amazing how much more character the music in megaman 2 and 3 has compared to this.
all your puns were funny as hell!
the best music ever:
8:magma man
7:concrete man
6:galaxy man
5:plug man
4:tornado man
3:splash woman
2:jewel man
1:hornet man
It's too bad you stopped your speed runs on MM9, I really liked them and the annotations were classics.
Respect man, this seems really hard.
If I remember right, the main game on WiiWare was 1500 Wii Points ($15), plus a little extra for the DLC.
Granted there ARE ways around all that, at least on the Wii side... (google them if you want to know)
The harpie joke was the best. Capcom should add some stuff like that too.
so glad he picked galaxyman at 6:07 i love the music
Nice post. Mega man 9 was a great comeback
Indeed. It's my favorite of the classic series.
I love, how Capcom have done this in retro style
excelent men!! it's a pity what happened in PlugMan Stage at the 14:20
Thanks! This looks like a really good MM! :D glad to see it 2d again (=
oh men you are sick, awesome video !!!!
You, sir, win exactly 34 internets and a subscription.
Born April 18th 1990 and i know what you mean, bro. Luckly i still own all of my Old Gaming Consoles such as my NES, SNES, N64, SEGA MD, SEGA DC, etc... And the best Part : Its still working =P
Can't call yourself a hardcore gamer until you beat an 8 bit mega man style game
well, thats one way to deal with the elephants in concrete man's stage, lol... had such a hard time with them every time!
ROFL! I like your jokes in this, even if some of them are a bit odd or outta place.
Five mins faster than the acknowledged world record! Impressive
No, the current world record is 20:38 by sorantyan. The 31:29 you might have seen associated with it is the real time completion, which I (nor most speedrunners) don't use. The time in my video above is IGT as well, which is displayed at the end of the game.
There's about 6 minutes of errors in here, but as I said, I'm done speed running this.
And yes, I'm aware that you can freeze the magma.
this is coo and all but i dunno how much i like this ones bosses. cant wait to see 10
>that feel when you're doing a pretty good speed run and accidently click the wrong boss at the stage select screen
Man, this game has such awesome music.
Sadly, I've been criticized by more true old school MM players as being a poor player. The current single session record is some 5 minutes faster then this run. I have to agree that this can be greatly improved (as can my Mega Man 7 100% run). So it's good, but not great.

@SirVG The Bob and George joke was the best :) Nostalgia. Mr. PJWification can take his uncouth shenanigans and shove it.
@JamesTylerHope It's not weird, but that's due to naming changes, just like it's "Rockman" in Japan and "Mega Man" in the US. This case, it's "Right" vs "Light".

Amazing. Thanks for posting. How long did it take to learn the levels? Wow
Wood Shield V2 LOL good one! :-)
that Megaman X7 reference was hilarious
The Mega Master has spoken.
Yeah I didn't think so, but I had to ask cause MM10 TAS clocks out at around 33 mins or so at the fastest. Just realized how much shorter 9 was XD. Man I really wanna go back and play these now
For great justice.
GUTS. Classic ace.
Given how much I play FPS games, I'd probably need one every 3 steps to avoid cheating snipers. :P
