    I don't think the commentators knew just how big a puncher Jackson was. For Jackson that shot he KO'd Graham with wasn't a particularly big punch. He wasn't like Hearns who could hit hard with one shot once in a while. With Hearns it was possible to avoid his big shots by moving when you see that he was setting himself up to throw them.
    Jackson was a naturally hard hitter - meaning that every punch he throws has power in it. He didn't have to set himself up to throw power shots - they were all power shots and the chances of going the distance against him and not getting caught even once were pretty slim.

    Look how good the fighters were back then. MAN! Herol Graham never became champion, but fought like one. Look at the pace, look at the action, and you NEVER see them hold. This is boxing, today its watered down. Graham would have been champ in this era.

    Watched this fight live on TV as a kid. Julian The Hawk a hell of a puncher, Herol Bomber a hell of a boxer, just too much show boating and hanging.out of chin. I know Herol had some mental health issues post his boxing career, I pray for him and hope he's safe and well. Gave great credit to British boxing.

      Chris Matheus nah, he got careless, followed a massive puncher around and got caught flush on the chin. The referee would have probably stopped the fight at the end of the round due to jacksons bad eye, it was a massive mistake from graham's corner to have him chasing a puncher like the hawk around when all he had to do was staying outside and waiting for the bell. Graham didn't deserve that title, made too much of a naive mistake for a top pro.

    Graham looked decent against C Level fighters, but he always had trouble at the highest level. Like most Ingle fighters his lack of defence will always catch up with them .He failed against the top fighters because top fighters expose mistakes and that Ingle style has lots. Graham was prone to lapses in concentration, didn't have the best chin, and lacked mental strength, also the bomber nickname doesn't make sense for a guy with only about a 50% KO ratio. He wasn't exactly the most exciting fighter to watch either, personally he bored me sleep!
    He's very overrated by Brits,The truth is that everytime he stepped into world class he failed miserably and lost every time. I really don't understand why some Brits talk like he is some ATG lol, He failed MISERABLY everytime he stepped up. His resume is weak, there's no notable wins there, Ayub Kalule is the only half decent win he has lol.
    He lost TWICE to Kalumbay, he lost to Mccallum, he got knocked out brutally by a blind Jackson, he was stopped by Frank Grant, got knocked out by Charles Brewer.!
    Some people who want us to believe that all the big super star names ducked him even though when he did get his chance at the big time he choked. Guys like Eubank and Benn were PROVEN world class fighters who took on all comers theres no way they would have ducked him lol it's hilarious to even suggest it. All the stupid sparring rumours are a joke, and anyway sparring is just sparring, The people who talk all these myths about Graham forget to mention Graham was knocked out in sparring by Eubank and and knocked out cold sparring Howard Eastman.
    He was a big game choker who would always find a way mentally to blow it.
    Graham came up short everytime he fought world class fighters ,there was nothing special about him at all, he was more flash than substance.He never won a won a world title he never beat a world class fighter,he gets most of his respect for what he did to Jackson in a fight that he didn't even win!! He's known for coming up short lol

      Navid Dorris, I think that your description of Herol is somewhat harsh. He got into the world's top 10, even 5, and got to fight for the World Title 3 times, if he was only good against C level fighters, he wouldn't have had 3 chances. He wasn't world title quality in the end it is true, otherwise he would've won a World Title. However, World International Title at Super Middleweight, European Middleweight and Light Middleweight Champion, British Middleweight and Light Middleweight Champion, is a good record. He lost only to World Champions besides Frank Grant, that British title loss at Elland Road taking place when Herol was way past his best. Yes he lost, especially to Jackson, due to lapses in concentration and taking silly risks, probably due to over confidence; the Jackson fight he would've won had he not tried to knock him out in the corner, it was a superb knockout though. However, Herol did beat Chris Johnson, Vinny Pazienza, Rod Douglas, Mark Kaylor and Ayub Kalule, all very good fighters. Chris Eubank put Graham down during sparring, he didn't knock him out, and Graham did box his head off during sparring; and yes sparring is sparring, and Eubank did become World Champion. Herol provided great entertainment and won 48 out of 56 fights, which I would class as a good record, has the respect of other fighters and the boxing public, and paved the way for Naseem Hamed in particular, and Kell Brook later on. That's not a bad résumé.

      @@ianwhitehead5435 Don’t forget he was Commonwealth light middleweight champion as well. And beat some good fighters on the way up, such as American future world champion Lindell Holmes, in Herol’s first fight at middleweight. And a young Sanderline Williams, another American who lost a split decision to Nigel Benn years later. One of the many decent names on his record. He didn’t reach the pinnacle, but if he had got the breaks earlier in his career, I am sure he would have become world champion. You don’t box for world titles if you are not world level, and in my opinion he was world class.

      @ianwhitehead5435 2 месяца назад

      @@BikSingh00 You mention some good names there, and a title I didn't know about. Herol would have had a much better chance of winning the World Championship at a younger age it is true, but I fear that Hagler would have knocked out Graham within 6 rounds, if not sooner; look at what Hagler did to Hearns! Graham's chin was always exposed, his reflexes being his saviour. He will always be a hero of my youth here in Sheffield, but history tells its own tale.

    • @BikSingh00
      @BikSingh00 Месяц назад

      @@ianwhitehead5435 Hagler beat Hearns two years before the bout with Leonard. At the time of the Leonard fight he was past his best, and to quote Herol’s words “Hagler was there for the taking”. He certainly wouldn’t have had a war with him like Hearns did. He was more elusive than Leonard. I don’t think Hagler would have stopped him. Herol was in his unbeaten prime then, and was almost impossible to hit with a follow up punch. There was even talk of a fight with Hearns at light middleweight, before Herol moved up to middleweight, but he was unable to secure that fight either. Both Hagler and Hearns knew of him, but didn’t want anything to do with him. But Herol actually would have fought for a world title in 87 after Hagler was stripped of the WBA title for failing to defend against him. He was at his peak and would have had a good chance of winning it as well against Iran Barkley. But his opportunity was ruined after the disastrous decision for a tuneup against Sumbu Kalambay in May 87. After a temporary separation from his trainer, Herol lost the fight narrowly, along with his European title, unbeaten record and number one ranking. Herol sadly didn’t become world champion, but he was one of the best fighters to ever come from Britain.
