I think regarding the chicken legs problem, everyone should stretch and train their legs to be functional. You don't have to go to failure to build muscle but just doing basic movements like stretching, pistol squats, etc can be a good way to have healthy legs without increasing their size. It also doesn't fatigue the body and affect skill training. It barely takes any time either.

You can absolutely train them even with a focus on hypertrophy and achieve a beautiful Planche and Front Lever. You get the point ;) I get yours. Much love 🩵 -Gabo
My legs are the reason I started doing calisthenics. I did a lot of skateboarding and also used a fixed gear bike for commuting, and my legs became disproportionally big compared to my upper body.
Your words mean a lot. It’s our pleasure, our enjoyment, and our duty to help! Glad we are doing that 🙏🏽🩵 thanks for being a loyal subscriber. Your love doesn’t go unnoticed! -Gabo
Great video! I really appreciate when high level calisthenics athletes acknowledge people's limitations in a realistic way. So tired of those "Beginner routine: 4 sets of 10 pullups, 4 sets of 10 inverted rows, etc" videos.
I think another issue or at least something to consider with calisthenics is the risk to reward ratio for some of the exercises. For example, a handstand pushup is a very technical and very difficult move. Your chance of injury is far greater when using that move to train shoulder strength than if you were to use another method such as a dumbbell shoulder press or a machine press. I think it's very good to have a solid foundation in basic training principles and how muscles work because we need to understand the difference between Strength, and skill. Strength is general, skill is specific. If you want to have stronger shoulders to improve your handstands, then we know that we don't necessarily need to perform the skill itself to do so. You can do a very safe and effective exercise such as a dumbbell shoulder press, while keeping the skill training of a handstand separate. The strength gains you get from a safer and more measurable exercise will transfer over to your skills because strength is general. And because the exercise is safer, you have a reduced chance of injury while still gaining a big reward. Stronger shoulders = better handstands. Skill training such as handstands and planches should be treated as such, skills, NOT strength training exercises. Hope that makes sense.
Certainly an interesting topic to cover in full detail. I agree with many points here while disagreeing with others. While a stable-less-technical exercise ‘could’ lead to more rapid gains, calling it "safer" is a stretch in my opinion. More context is needed, and a comment wouldn’t do justice here. Also, for an untrained beginner, a chest-to-wall handstand push-up can indeed pose a greater risk than a dumbbell press, but that person should not even be attempting a chest-to-wall handstand push-up in the first place. However, learning a pike push-up correctly with proper progression is as “safe” as a military press, with the word “safe" being a very subjective term. In short, I understand your point, but categorizing calisthenics as more injurious than weightlifting is not the answer here. I appreciate the discussion on these topics to move the community forward. We'll cover this in future videos! - Gab0
@@SaturnoMovement Yes agreed I don't want there to be any misunderstandings, I'd definitely watch a video discussing this topic if you made one. I am definitely not categorizing weight lifting as safer than calisthenics, by the way because it certainly isn't especially if we consider Olympic lifting or power lifting (arguably some of the more dangerous sports with a huge injury risk). I think we agree more than we disagree. I've seen many of your videos where you emphasize proper technique and training. So I'm speaking just generally. But anyways, I've been a fan of your channel for awhile and appreciate your content. Thanks for the conversation.
Tbh i really agree with the last point refining basic although it not actually basic movements for example how can you tell someone that never workout before which very skinny or so called overweight, fat to do push up, pull up and dips absolutely not rip to their joint, it easier to start with free weights or gym when you can chose the lightest weights on any machines, dumble barbell as beginner remember you weight are fix when doing calisthenics unlike gym reminder for beginners especially overweight...
Idk why people hate leg days so much .Like they give you insane pump (yes after leg day is pure pain) .But when you realize leg days gives you better pumps than arm of chest ,you’ll want to train your upper body harder to “feel” that pump like the one you have on leg day.
Hindu Squats can build legs very well. Use a progression to build up to at least 300 reps. That should take about 10 minutes. IF you can do 500 in 15 minutes you're doing very well. You can also use a weight vest. Nothing builds my quads like Hindu Squats.
I personally feel like a hybrid athlete would make the most sense i use to do powerlifting with bodybuilding with marathon running. I never really did calisthenics before but I'm sure it would have made weak points strong
Naturally increasing testosterone is never a bad thing. Having a midweek pause from upper body training (push, pull, legs) is beneficial for recovery anyway. It’s not a massive inconvenience to do squats, hamstring curls, calf raises, leg press, leg extensions and lunges over an hour workout.
The problem with legs in calisthenics movement is that the whole movement is an upper body specialization. It would be best to graduate to gymnastics or martial arts, where legs become as important as upper body strength. There are many leg exercises that are not included here that build huge legs without weights. Shiko (sumo stomps), archer squats, and pistol squats just to name a few.
It's all about difficulty. High level calisthenics dudes know all the tricks to making their upper body routines rip muscle fiber and help them build bigger muscle, but too often they stick to high rep sets of regular bodyweight squats, or minor variations. The key is high difficulty single leg work, taking into consideration how big you want to be and what you need to do to keep your legs proportional. It's either that or just literally do anything to add weight. You don't need dumbbells or a bar if you're absolutely strapped for space or money. Just hold something heavy, dudes. Anything. Squat with a big ass bag of canned goods as long as its heavy enough.
I set my leg day to saturday, but I skip it sometimes (maybe more often^-^) because I don't feel the excitement of working out on weekends. and I'm done doin leg days on weekdays because it takes more energy to do that it affects my productivity during the day (I workout in the morning, it feels better for me). so now on saturday i just do 10-20 min sprint HIIT around a soccer field near my house and it feels great!!
5:56 - competing is cool n' all that, but let's be real the general cali goer should want a healthy body overall. For me calisthenics, helps with combat sports like wrestling. I need my whole body to be fit. I know it'll make planches and such more difficult, but there is always going to be pain when you want them gains.
Even if you don’t compete some people really want to have the “best Planche” they can have, and for that training legs is useless. Our take is simple: do what makes you happy. No shame in not training legs, and no shame in trying to do both (which is absolutely possible). Everyone has the right to do what they want. -Gabo
Please yes a video on calisthenic legs. I want to be as powerful as possible not as big as possible. But definitely not chicken legs. Most people doing calisthenics, aren't doing competition there everyday people like me on a journey of better health strength and power. I would love to learn how to get stronger more powerful legs that have a little more muscle and avoid the chicken leg 😂
My thing about it #4, I've come to wonder why calisthenics guys don't start practicing sprints actually. Gymnasts need to sprint to flip/tumble on their floor routines, this does work on leg muscles and you can build leg muscles by sprinting, take a look at sprinters. Also, gymnasts do a lot of jumping and "squat" type of movements for their floor routines too or like balance beam work (more so the girls) but still. I think, doing a little more gymnast stuff can help with leg muscle development.
Great point! Point 4 needs an entire video dedicated to it. Sprints are great and won’t build massive legs, however, the “problem” of recovery still applies. Again, not training legs at all is only reserved for those trying to FULLY maximize static skills. That said, it’s 100% possible to have great leg development and power while having clean static skills! -Gabo
@@SaturnoMovement I was wondering, not training legs at all to fully maximize statics? Don't gymnasts usually do all round workouts and still do incredible static holds? I still think calisthenics based athletes would benefit from gymnastics methods/training even though I know calisthenics was born out of gymnastics.

Hey man! I have huge calves as well. I don't like your wording here: "I CAN'T." Will it be harder? Yes. Not possible? No. You just have to get stronger and dial in more things than someone with someone with smaller legs. Do you know how many people +6 feet tall with HUGE legs have achieved a planche? Let me tell you... MANY. Stop making excuses, and get to work if you really want those skills. Speaking to you with love. you ARE NOT the problem. - Gabo

4:53 I disagree, strong and mobile legs are important for freestyle because while learning freestyle we fall a lot so our legs have to be capable enough to take the harsh landings.
You are free to disagree, but I don’t agree with you. You need basic strength, mobility and strong ankles can for sure help. You can get that with 20min of mobility work and some running a week. However barbell squats, deadlifts and heavy leg training will do more harm than good. 99% (if not 100%) of world champion freestylers don’t train legs for a reason. It can help, sure, but it will be more beneficial to practice more freestyle or rest. Plus, freestyle includes statics, so no. -Gabo
I think people who do calisthenics tend to build more leg muscle with fast twitch fibers. So even though the size isn’t there, but the strength and explosiveness is.
We don’t have a specific program for that, but you can swap most exercises for weighted ones + I explain how to do that for each routine. We’ll release a weights + calisthenics program soon. -Gabo
Good video, but it seems that you guys in the states have a very narrow definition of Calisthenics. How can it be that a big influencer doesn’t even mention weighted calisthenics when it comes to competitions and legs.
We can’t cover everything in a single video, my friend. Of course, we are aware of the sport of Street lifting and the importance of legs, given that the Squat is a competition lift. I was aware I missed that point after we filmed the video, but this video was done extremely fast, one day before Yass left back to Spain, with no script, just free-flowing. Don’t assume we have a narrow definition or knowledge because we didn’t address a single point in a video that contains 6 points. This video was not only about leg training, otherwise that would’ve been addressed. We’ll do justice with a dedicated video on the subject of lower body training and calisthenics. -Gabo

I only lift weights at school and somehow I had a 275 lbs squat at the start of 9th grade, now my back is messed up, so I haven’t been able to max out
The problem with legs in calisthenics movement is that the whole movement is an upper body specialization.
Progressions are everything
I set my leg day to saturday, but I skip it sometimes (maybe more often^-^) because I don't feel the excitement of working out on weekends. and I'm done doin leg days on weekdays because it takes more energy to do that it affects my productivity during the day (I workout in the morning, it feels better for me). so now on saturday i just do 10-20 min sprint HIIT around a soccer field near my house and it feels great!!
good leg training calisthenic methods or minimal equipment situations wiuld be a nice video topic thanks guys!
Thanks alot for this valuable information 👏.
Good one, Missed your videos.
Thank you! We missed doing them too. The app took a lot of time out of us, but we are back with better content than ever. Promise 😊🙏🏽 -Gabo
I'm still struggling to hang on the pullup bar. I just started calisthenics this year.
-Gabo
I love These guys ❤
We Love you back 🤍 -Gabo
Please yes a video on calisthenic legs. I want to be as powerful as possible not as big as possible. But definitely not chicken legs.
Most people doing calisthenics, aren't doing competition there everyday people like me on a journey of better health strength and power. I would love to learn how to get stronger more powerful legs that have a little more muscle and avoid the chicken leg 😂
thanks for sharing
Can You please make a video on training legs as well as being able to achieve calesthenics skilss like Planche etc?
As a donkey that does calisthenics this will be valuable.😊
definetely wanna know how to train legs with calisthenics .i want to get very good at calisthenics but i also want to have decent sized legs so i dont get made fun of at the beach or something. If you can make this happen that will definetely be appreciated
We’ll work on that video 🫡 -Gabo
@@SaturnoMovement Thanks man. will have my notifications on for that one😁
@@ScootseveydayI've seen it done, it is very attainable just keep at it.
Hey Gabo or Yassir(hey yassir it's good see you back on big video) i have a question. You have so many flexibility routines here on RUclips and all of them are useful, can you please help me in where should i start and how frequently should i change the routines or is there any need to change the routine. Your words/advice would be very very helpful.
Also Gabo, let me tell you that you are a very very very big inspiration to me, i really want to get your level someday. You are like a celebrity to me, i would love to meet you someday in future if possible. Thank you.
Regards
Hey man! We deeply appreciate your support! Hope to meet you one day soon as well. We will definitely make a video organizing all our flexibility content with a step-by-step guide on how to progress through them! Stay tuned for it. Once again, thank you for being here 🙏🏽🩵 -Gabo
@@SaturnoMovement Thank you so much.
*you don't have to reply i am just sharing some feats I've achieved thanks to you*
And i completely understand that you and whole saturno movement is very busy.
(Btw I am a proud subscriber/follower/admirer since 2019)
I mastered my handstand this year. I am almost their to achieve muscle up. I can hang for somewhere around 30 sec each hand. My push up form is almost flawless(scapula control) my Hollow body is going good too( i imagine you doing it and strive to achieve that form and stability) and my single leg strength+ tuck front lever has improved ALL THANKS TO YOU😭. When a teacher like yourself knows how others are doing, i think it makes him proud and happy and positive that's why took some time to share all this. Hope this makes your day even teensy bit better 🌟🙌🏻. My best wishes with you, Karina and whole saturno movement team.
Nice keep it coming❤
We will! We were too busy with the app, but back to RUclips now 🫡 -Gabo
Amazing advices thank you bro
I want to know how can i arrange between workout out that takes three days of my time throughout the week and stretching ?
Frankly i want to strech twice per week outside the working out days for more strength and focus but i dont know how could i spread them through the week .
May you give me an advice ?
Jeez, 152lb, 68kg in weight? I had no idea you was so light.
Saturno guys do you have a bloopers video ? It could be fun 😎
We’ve shared many in shorts, but we’ll do more for sure :) plenty of fun moments haha! -Gabo
They post it sometimes on Instagram
Loved the video
Would want to know how to program strong leg (calisthenics)
We’ll make a detailed video on the subject for sure 👍🏽
Thanks you
PLEASE MAKE A LEGS TRAINING VIDEO ❤
Hand stand and planche for me❤

Leg calisthenics session please gabo
0:45 152 lbs is 69 kg which is quite small weight, hmmm...
Yassirs BACK?
We wished 😞 he came for a business trip las august and we filmed this one. We’ve been so busy with the app that we never edited it till now. -Gabo
*Can you do a full vid on skill routines?* please?
like u said u maybe was gon do in the vid «How to train for skills full guide» vids
More of those are coming. They just take some time to produce. Complex topics with many variables. -Gabo
I guess for most of us, just doing 1000 muscle ups on a weekend is our main problem :D
Yep! That summarizes the entire video lol 😂
Title: the sad truth. Video: don’t be an idiot
i have no problem with calisthenics, the problem was me, i have big legs and calves since i was born so i cant do any advanced calisthenics movements besides muscle ups and human flag :(
- Gabo
What can do for dips. I can do a good 4ish (more really but my shoulder seems to hurt not fatigue but just pain). The assisted hold is too easy though so is there anything in the middle you could recommend to help shoulders
Hey guys can you a video with the same format of ur video" perfect leg workout" but for the upper body? Pls it's the best and the most complete workout on youtube but i need it also for the upper body😢
We’ll make it happen my friend 😊🙏🏽 -Gabo

tips to heal inner elbow pain during pull-ups?
Check our video call "fix golfers elbow"
Yeah calisthenics is so hard. Not only do you need insane strength but technique strength.
Does the app include the option for weighted squats and deadlifts. I prefer to include weighted exercises for legs.
It does! You can swap most bodyweight leg exercises for their weighted version (Back squats, RDLs and Hip Thursts) depending on the program and workout. -Gabo
1:26 White shirt dude on the bar. Wtf is that move?
Edit: ye as someone who don't practice the foundation first, calisthenics warm ups is the workout
Call me crazy, but I like trying to mix some calisthenics with olympic weightlifting
Crazy? Why? Do you my friend! We are all about mixing disciplines and doing what makes you happy. You ain’t crazy, you have enough self-awareness to do what you enjoy. Different story! 😉 -Gabo
Never gain as much mass on my legs than with calisthenics. Just choose the good ex
Do you guys teach the kip up, forward roll, front splits on your app?
The first 2, no brother, but thanks for the ideas :) front split, yes. -Gabo
After building solid foundation can I train basics with skills?
100% and you probably should! Check our video “Build Muscle With Calisthenics Skills” to know more, but a video covering this topic in detail is coming very soon! -Gabo
No sound
You've got the Oura ring too?
Yep!
On the app is does it cater for those that want to train calisthenics with weights mixed in ?
We don’t have a specific program for that, but you can swap most exercises for weighted ones + I explain how to do that for each routine. We’ll release a weights + calisthenics program soon. -Gabo
Yassir has one the nicest physique among calisthenics atheletes. Its just.. AESTHETIC! 🤌😍🔥
Is problem 5 even a problem??
It can be :)
-Gabo
this is such a great video with very valuable information, good job
