Inside this video, I discuss when to give aspirin as an EMT. EMTs in the ambulance carry aspirin to give to patients with chest pain complaints and risks of myocardial infarction AKA Heart Attack.

@@TheParamedicCoach Hi Evan! What if the MI pt is allergic to aspirin? The risk of dying from MI vs anaphylaxis confuses me. Patient has better odds of surviving anaphylaxis vs MI but MI and anaphylaxis at the same time...
@@TheParamedicCoach thank you ! I have literally memorized my protocols and now I see med controls purpose is to protects us as well when it comes to administering drugs for pts with conditions outside our standing protocols such as a pt not being prescribed a med like albuterol You are just calling to ensure a drug is safe to give given the pts current condition and it protects you being that it’s on a recorded line as well as ensures you don’t hurt your pt such as giving albuterol to a pt not prescribed and with past history of cardiac issues such. Thanks a lot.
If you have my program, you just need to follow the EMT Level plan for NREMT study that twice and take the quizzes in the course under BLS. Welcome Aboard!
Hey Alexia, welcome to the channel! These are two different medications so it's not a case of "either or"... Nitroglycerin for example would be given for chest pain (ACS/STEMI) but also can be used to treat congestive heart failure. Aspirin is used in patient's with Chest Pain (ACS/STEMI) They are best used as a team NOT one or the other. Be Great! Evan,The Paramedic Coach
Hey Raine, thanks for watching, I got your back, I've already created all 44 EMS Medications in videos just like this inside my prep course, the section is titled; EMS Medications Mastery. There also is probably other topics in class you would like to understand better too, you get access to our community group (thousands of fellow students) plus 180+ videos to help you with your education, including the drug videos you are looking for. Here is the sign up, it's a one time payment and you are in for life. www.prepareforems.com
Yes, you can give both medications to a patient. Nitro decreases "pre-load" and vasodilatation effects which is helpful in MI, but they have to be off ED meds and have a high enough blood pressure.
Yes, of course this depends on the nature of the call and the patient's medication history and blood pressure. Nitro would be given to heart failure patients and chest pain patients, in patients we suspect are having a heart attack
Hello Evan, I bought your program last week, and still was not let into the community group on facebook. Is there something that can be done about that? Thank you, Tim
Hey Timothy, I have you in the community group, since the first 24 hours can you re-check it's called "Paramedic Coach Private Group" I double checked after your first message. Any questions use my support email please: support@paramediccoach.com

Hey I’m a little confused as to WHEN to call med control for some drugs ? Could you cover that for EMTs ?
Med Control is only needed to call when you are asking for something outside of your standing order.

hi, what other contraindications are there for aspirin?
when would you administer nitroglycerin rather than aspirin???

Can you do these on all the basic drugs like nitroglycerin, glucose, Narcan, albuterol, charcoal, epinephrine
(Furthering) You just explain things really well, and I feel like I can really understand it when you talk.

can you give nitro after administering aspirin?
Yes, of course this depends on the nature of the call and the patient's medication history and blood pressure. Nitro would be given to heart failure patients and chest pain patients, in patients we suspect are having a heart attack
so aspirin is used to stop a heart attack from getting worse?

Nope, this channel is 100% EMS; been a Nationally Registered Paramedic since 2013. Thanks for watching, Michael!

Asprin is a antiplatlete agrigator
❤❤❤
So basically give Aspirin if we suspect a cardiac event but DO NOT give it to pts that are bleeding
