So we're doing IVF...

  • Sorry I couldn't answer all of your questions in this video- I did film answers to all of them but it was just too long.
    This is our IVF story up until this point. It's really hard and a huge challenge but it has hands down been the best thing we've ever done.
    A lot of people asked me about how I can talk about this stuff and be so open... but I find it much more strange that I would gush so much about handbags than talking about something like this which is so important.
    My hope is that this is helpful to someone who is struggling with this process- much in the same way others being open with me about their struggles was a huge benefit to me.

    I’m an open book too and I find it has served me well. I think being able to talk about difficulties and life’s challenges has been huge for my mental health and working through situations. Also by sharing you often find people with similar issues and you can help them as well. I think by sharing here on RUclips you will be helping people who are struggling right now. It’s a very emotionally painful journey and by sharing we give others a chance to share their stories too.

    I had two ectopic pregnancies, had to have an emergency operation to remove my Fallopian tube, the other was blocked. I did one cycle of IVF. Never did have a child in the end. Things happen for a reason. 12 years ago, I was filled with resentment at all my friends seemingly getting pregnant upon first try. I still get the ‘why don’t you have kids?“. Just not part of my story. Wishing you the very best. X

    Emma, I truly appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. This is a topic a lot of women carry a lot of shame about and without even knowing it, you are helping women to break out of a self-imposed prison of secrecy and shame on this topic. I started following you years ago for handbag reviews and I love your evolution into "real topics" through this channel. Blessings to you. It must not be easy to be going through this but you still record your videos with enthusiasm and a smile. You are much loved and I truly hope you get the blessing of the second child you desire ❤❤

    You must have been a wonderful GP Emma. It’s the NHS’s loss that you are no longer working. GP practices are using more and more remote ways of treating their patients and if they could have an ounce of your common sense and compassion when they are giving you bad news over the telephone, not even seeing you face to face then the world would be a better place. Good luck with IVF and thanks for your brave openness. ❤

Long story short we are planning to get married and getting our first home together soon but each day I’m mindful of the (un)likelihood due to my age cf his. It feels like each day, each month is a countdown reducing my chances to have a complete family. Wishing you the best for a successful transfer, Emma! Thank you for sharing, it’s helping so many, I’m sure. For me the worst part had to be the progesterone in oil shots to the butt for the 10+ weeks after the successful transfer. My hubby gave me those shots and at first he was aiming in the wrong area, I think, which made him hit a nerve and it would be so painful and I would bleed. I remember crying a lot towards the end. Other than that everything else was fine, but agree that waiting all along the steps was challenging! ❤

    Emma wishing you all the best in your IVF journey.❤️🙏 I’m sure Henry will have a sibling in the near future. My husband and I struggled with infertility for years and went through the IVF journey around 30 years ago. As I have Crohn’s disease and scar tissue from four surgeries it had damaged much of my reproductive system. IVF or surgery were our only options. IVF was our choice. At the time they were just starting the frozen embryos so that gave us more hope. Over several years we went through some fresh and frozen cycles with no success. It is such a roller coaster of emotions and very difficult to go through. I did find it painful but I’m sure it had more to do with my previous abdominal surgeries and scar tissue. The doctors thought I might have endometriosis but because of my history they wouldn’t scope to see. In the end we decided to go the adoption route. After trying for one year in Canada we decided to go international. It was the single best decision we ever made. Today our son is 26 years old. He has been the light of our life and still is. Being parents was our ultimate goal and I’m just so happy that we never gave up.

    But, I do wish people would stop asking women when they're having kids, it's not their business, even if they're nosey Aunt Edie and think they have the right to know!
    I also wish that as a standard part of ivf there would always be some counselling, partly because studies have suggested that it increases the chances of pregnancy (for some even before the actual ivf treatment starts), but also because there is not a 100% certainty of pregnancy.

    Hi Emma
    Just wanted to wish you well and hope your IV goes well and you have a healthy beautiful baby, boy or girl, whatever you wish.
    I'm not a doctor or a health expert of any sort, but just wanted to give you an advice from an old woman, which is kind of an old wives taIe, may be correct maybe not.
    I know you like doing weight lifting, which, in my humble opinion and by personal suffering, is very bad for us women, as it puts a lot of pressure on the pelvic area, as well as our back, which is naturally created weaker than a man's back.
    Again, not an expert of any kind, but I often hear doctors advice pregnant women, or those who are trying to conceive, to avoid carrying heavy objects.
    I was an unwanted child, and my mother always told me how she tried to abort me by lifting heavy things, jumbing down the stairs and so on. Obviously, that did not work, but it did make my birth the toughest out of her other 9 births.
    My niece, who is less than 40, went into early menopause because she was obssessed with weight training.
    My advice, if you would like to consider taking it, is to stop weight lifting, and any other tough excercise, until after at least 4 months of your (hopefully) new child's birth.
    Wishing you all the best.

    Good luck this two weeks. I think the things I found the hardest when trying to get pregnant is people assuming you don’t want children, we were selfish, or we weren’t trying. Finally I did get pregnant after a hysterosalpingogram. No one mentions this test, but it led to a healthy baby boy for me. Thank you for sharing and being so forthright. It can be a lonely journey when trying to get pregnant.❤️

    • @Emmaanders
      @Emmaanders  Год назад +3

      Yes it wasn't mentioned to us... I was aware of the procedure but assumed that if our clinician didn't mention it then it wasn't appropriate for us. Needless to say I am much more direct now and assume nothing. I used to have people telling me to 'get a move on' if I wanted children, and saying 'stop prioritising work'.... it's hard. But we have our boys ❤️❤️

    • @cquinnth
      @cquinnth Год назад

      Yes, I heard get a move on too. People just assume that everyone can just get pregnant easily, but that is not true. My fallopian tubes were clogged. The hysterosalpingogram flushes out the tubes as they shoot dyes into your tubes to get an X-ray. Good luck with your baby journey!

    • @danishpastry6137
      @danishpastry6137 Год назад

      I'm a radiographer, and it's been decades since I've been involved in hysterosalpingograms, I'm not sure they're very common now. I know a colleague had an endoscopy instead, and after 10 years of trying (they already had a son at this point), she had an ectopic pregnancy, followed by a normal pregnancy. She is definitely of the opinion that the endoscopy helped!

      It is cost effective to offer 3 cycles of IVF on the NHS and this is the National recommendation. The effects of infertility can be huge. But unfortunately different areas decide how much they want to follow the guidance so some areas offer 0 or only 1-2 cycles. In other counties 3 cycles of state funded ivf are offered and I think- I could be wrong- that in Scotland people are still entitled to 3
