- What's going on guys and welcome back to the channel! Recently, and as I'm sure many if you are aware, I made a video on the world's largest traveling inverted roller coaster, and it seemed to do pretty well amongst my viewers. Because of this, I got curious and did some more research into inverts, and came across one in South Africa that appeared to be just another common coaster, though I quickly learned, I was definitely wrong. With a height of over a hundred feet, 5 inversions, and a length of just under 2 minutes, this EXTREMELY rare coaster is one of 3 ever built by its manufacturer, and has some pretty cool features about it, including the fact that this might be the rarest operating invert of all time. But what is this coaster? And what are its origins? This is the story, of Gold Reef City's, Anaconda. 🐍🎢

Thanks for doing a video on this. I rode it in real life and its awesome!
Thanks for putting this together!! As a South African who has been on the Anaconda numerous times you're definitely missing out :P
I feel like a proud South African that Anaconda made it into one of these videos, lol. Thanks for this!!
You feel _"like a proud South African"_ because of a rollercoaster is the topic on a channel about rollercoasters?
Isn't this a little ridiculous?
I have South African roots too. My surname is Erasmus.
But patriotic pride because of a coaster? That seems a little over the top...
The park had the coaster with the highest g-force in the world! The "Tower of Terror",_ with 6.3G. But it got downgraded to 4G. Before it was comparable to fighter jets or Formula 1 crashes.
I wonder how this thing passed the authorities. Well, it was built shortly after the end of apartheid. Where the country was in transition mode.
@yannick245 Lol, it's not that deep bro. With love from Cape Town, South Africa😘
@@yannick245 bro it's not dat deep. I'm from South Africa too

@@NationalCoastersWhy should the park close? It's probably the most popular theme park in Gauteng. The smallest but most populated province of South Africa. Including Johannesburg and Pretoria.
I rather think that they will rather expand then close down!
Great video! Looks like a fun coaster!!!
I've ridden this coaster so many times and it's amazing! Especially the roar of the wheels speeding along track... You can hear this coaster standing anywhere in the Theme Park (Gold Reef City)
Six Flags Magic Mountain is my home park, so I get to ride a 20-year-old Giovanola that is still as smooth as it was in its early life. This park had two other Giovanola-manufactured coasters over the years-the Shock Wave stand-up coaster and the notorious Flashback space diver coaster.
I thought Flashback was an Intamin.
@Trevor Jensen Sold by Intamin, but manufactured by Giovanola.
Same here Eric, love Goliath at SFMM!
@@ericlong8253 Should include their bobsled also then.
SALUTE SIX FLAGS MM!
I’ve been on this so many times. It is GREAT. I remember a few years ago, it got stuck with us on it and the operators told my mom that once the rollercoaster has gone, it HAS to complete its cycle. The good part is that it can only get stuck while there’s still that black track thingy underneath it so it wasn’t stuck on a loop or something. It was the most scary and exciting moment of my life! I still go back there every time I visit which is often as I live only 1 hour away!
Good old Giovanola. Basically the beta version of B&M and gets trashed all the time because people hate Goliath and Titan for some reason. They were pretty interesting to me and I wonder what stuff they would build today. Good job on this video, I found it pretty interesting.
I agree! And thank you as well!
Hated only by airtime only people. Ask the people that ride it, they LOVE it because its so unique and forceful. Sad they went bankrupt I think they wouldve given us more unique designs
I have also been on this unique invert, and let me tell you, it is pretty dang fun! The loops, helix and corkscrews pull insane g-forces and the ride runs no different than a B&M batman (in fact, it might be even more intense than the batman clones!). I also have seen the Giovanola factory in Monthey last year every time I went in the train to the nearby ski resorts. I was wondering if that was the actual company as in the one that built Anaconda, Goliath and Titan (apparently so).
Oh that’s cool! I wanna go to the facilities for sure! Though, I’m not sure if that’s the same company...
I've ridden this quite a few times and can tell you that its really a great coaster. Its surprisingly smooth, even though it does have some rough patches. and with so many near miss elements and flying through and around the rock it gives a really fun but intense ride experience, it also has one of the best Roller Coaster Roars I've ever heard. You should also do a video on the Tower Of Terror at the same park, I believe it was the world first real 90 degree drop and when it opened had a G force of around 6.5 at the bottom of the drop.(I'm not 100% sure on the exact Gs, but it was definitely an insane and unsafe amount). The Gs are lower now as they re-tracked the bottom of the drop, but with it having that elevator lift hill and diving straight down into a real mineshaft while also pulling an insane amount of force. It is a really short but high intensity roller coaster. Which also has a strange history as it has no official manufacturer. The park said Giovanola built it but Giovanola denied having been apart of it construction. But ya that's my experience with the park. great Video.
How loud is it
@@ThrillsofColdplay pretty damn loud. I mean you can very clearly hear it from quite a distance.
@@Im_A_Watermelon wow
Awesome!!! And thank you! 😎
The 6.3G is just too insane!
It's comparable to a fighter jet or Formula 1. If you don't pay attention, you can f**k up your cervical vertebrae.
I live in South Africa and I am going to gold reef city in a few days😅
Parts look quite similar to Talon at Dorney Park, designed by B&M. Talon is one of my all time favorites so I'd love to try out Anaconda someday.
i love hearing about this theme park, my grandpa lives like an hour away from the park
Thanks for the history lesson. I always thought the FreeFall and the ZForce was at my home park GA first. Nice video!😁
Haha thank you! 😋
Gold Reef City looks is easily the best park in Africa (I have never been to the continent, but based on it's competition there is no one in the same solar system). A Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop, Giovanola Invert, and Dive Coaster presumably a Giovanola creation, this park is easily a bucket list park.
Martians: goes to a park fully decorated and an 1,000 foot T&M roller coaster with a combined airtime total of three minutes
Also Martians: are we a joke to you?
Lol
You should go it's awesome there you'll definitely enjoy the rides
@@mazefitness5149 South Africa in general looks like a great place to stop. Gold Reef Coty would just be icing on the cake.
@appalachianenthusiast9499 it's got a coaster xalled Jozi Express to which no one talks about but is pretty good,
This ride is world class and still smooth after 20 years, on opening week the station brakes where set too strong so the train stopped short of the loading zone, and in typical South African fashion the riders got out and pushed the train forwards for the next group to get on and ride, apart from that start the ride has been a consistant performer. Park entrance fee is only 14 Dollars and the rides are free to go on so great value for money.

Haha awesome! Thank you! :)
Great informative video….Subscribed 10/14/21👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! :)
Great Coaster! Drop the knowledge dude! Thanks for the well researched information!
Haha totally! Thanks for watching!!
I've got this ride pretty high up on my weird/unique coaster bucket list. Plus that way I can say I've ridden all the Giovanola coasters.
Great video, nice research!
Thank you!
Good history of this coaster...Thank You
For sure! Thank you!
Why would it close? Haha
TDG #1 FULLSUPPORT
That does look like fun! Also, 2 minutes is an eternity on an invert. I'd love to ride that thing!
It will humble you like it humbled me
@@damianbaartman5179 I would so love to find out my friend👍☺
This is such a fun roller coaster you should definitely go on it
Cheap B&M doesn't exist it can't hurt you
Cheap B&M:
I find it cool that this coaster type is on Planet Coaster
here's a question are there any roller coasters out there are better nothing but a corkscrew I mean it's a roller coaster layout with the loop and all that stuff but just does nothing but a corkscrew the whole track
i went there today, and i can tell you it is WORTH IT. please, if you love roller coasters and visit Joburg, go to gold reef and try the anaconda
This is my favorite coaster ever
Funfact
Giovanola Offered The Inverted Coaster To Feature A Launched Lift Hill But The Park Decided For The Classic Chain Lift.
I didn’t know that, cool!
Is a great coaster, nice and smooth except for the 1st corkscrew that is hard on the body! I’ve ridden al 3 they build, CA, Tx and South Africa and the SA one is best, specially going into the 1st loop!
Awesome!
I love these trains so much
Omg I would go on this ride twice 😍😍😍😍😍
Hold up free fall and Z force. Was in Atlanta I know this two very bumpy scary rides
I feel like Anaconda should have stayed magenta with green supports. still looks fun
World’s rarest inverted roller coaster ? What about Sartori Rides’s Energizer ?
in reality I think The Eurostar is probably the rarest invert with this a close second
Is it just me cuz from the look of the POV this thing is a ripper!
why not cobra at tivoli friheden thats the only inverting and the only thrill coaster by italian manufacture satori rides
I went on this at the age of 11 and I was SCARED
Shaft/tower of terror at gold reef city 😉
This went through quite a few paint jobs
Yes! Love the rock work and theming. This always adds up to a memorable experience. The patent for roller coaster is actually "gravity powered scenic railway" It think this coaster sums it UP well. Roller Coaster is an "American term"
There is a rarer one! Look up Queen Bee in Skegness UK. Only 2 ever built and only 1 still in operation!
Too bad the one at Kings Dominion is NOTHING compared to this!!!!😲😲😲😲😲
vekoma likey likey
It’s disappointing another never got made
I am in the top 10 🐥
Probably a matter of time it closes as the company went bankrupt
