I was 12 too. I'm from Argentina. Here we don't have (culturally) this level of bound to a history even if it is fictional, not to mention that we don't celebrate what comes around consequently of that richness that a written play brings: music, events like this one, theatre versions with live music, and so on. But I guess when it went globally through movies it gathered us fans from every corner on the planet and create our own Comunity. 20 years later we keep sharing our love for JRRT
I love how I can listen to you guys without actually watching the movie, yet, I 100% see every scene as you describe these extra things. What a nice idea it was to do that. The only bad thing is I put that video to fall asleep and here I am at 2 am, fully awake and just wanting to hear you commenting Two Towers next!
It is amazing that it has been 20 years. I discovered Tolkien and Middle Earth. While in college. Having them on screen was such a joy. Seeing people's reaction to them was so much fun.

I started about ten minutes after you, so I couldn’t watch it with you guys. Even then, I would’ve been desynced (or however you spell it) because I had to switch discs after Pippin says “So where are we going?” But I still had a great time. These movies have barely aged in the last twenty years.
I was 50 years old when I saw Fellowship in the movie theater....I saw each one when it came out in the theaters. I went to Return of the King twice in 3 days

I had never been so amazed and floored by a movie in a theater. I must have gone back and watched it a half dozen more times. They really, really did do such an amazing job.
The sound effect of that ring hitting the floor was absolutely amazing it sounded like it weighed like 1000 lbs Bilbo sounded like a different person immediately after just the way this movie tries to let you know the actual weight of htis ring is amazing with the score. Keep up the good work guys.
I had my mom paint my walls and ceiling Lord of the Rings themes when I was a kid. She even did 2 little double wooden drawers/boxes for me! Painted a whole Eye of Sauron on my wall, my dad got me a life size version of Narsil for my 14th(still have it, 8 years later). I am in love with this series, it is absolutely breathtaking that a single man could encapsulate so much lore, story and depth with his literature.
When I was in fifth grade, our reading textbook had the first chapter of the hobbit in it. When I read it, I had to have more, so i went to the neighborhood bookstore, and bought the hobbit in paperback , I read it several times before finding the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the same store. I read them so many times. That was all before the cartoon of the Hobbit came out. I loved that movie. My father bought the vinyl album of the Hobbit soundtrack with the movie and music just like watching the movie. This was before VCR tapes. When I was able I bought the VCR tape of the hobbit, and then the Lord of the Rings cartoon. I have always loved these books and movies.
This was such a treat. Luckily, I've seen this movie so many times, I didn't need to play it alongside; I just listened to the commentary and played it in my head 😂 Major props for organizing this! Zoom calls are hard to pull off but this was very well put together. Also shout outs to Mithrandir who really wanted to participate in the commentary too 🐈
As a sound engineer, it is nearly insufferable every time Clifford starts speaking on this stream. I am perfectly fine with his commentary and presence, it's just that his mic is literally peaking out, distorted and much louder than Matt and Yoystan. I'm binging through NOTR's complete video library so hopefully this has been addressed in more recent uploads. I love you guys so fkn much, thank you for providing me with such great Tolkien content, your uploads always make my day.

Clifford going on long (and borderline unrelated to the movie at some points) monologues throughout this whole thing while also having by far the loudest mic volume gets tedious after a while :D Other than that this was amazing. Balancing out the mic volumes before starting would be the easiest and biggest improvement for this concept. Thanks for putting it together! Much love to all involved.
Don't do the next watch party early, I agree. What fun this was. Learned many new things. I usually triple time thru the slash/war scenes, so this is the first time letting them run normally. Not my favorite scenes. I'll take more Lorien.
Definitely remember my eyes going wide in the dark the the first seconds that prologue started and instantly realizing I was about to have an amazing next 3 hours…. But the worst part about seeing this in the theater was when the 3 hours were up and the 24 month clock started for the full set…
Howard Shore uses leitmotif, a musical theme related to Gondor in this instance when Boromir speaks. The Leitmotif was developed in the Wagnerian Ring Cycle...and Wagner's last opera Parsifal.
50:00 the theory that suits me for how Gollum didn't age even tho he had it longer time than Bilbo but was also separated from it, was because Sauron personally tortured Gollum himself to get info and it says in the extra texts that Gollum saw the black hand of Sauron having a finger lost - and it is sugested that since Sauron let Gollum go, he might have made a bargain with Gollum to keep him still living long life even tho they both were now seperated from The Ring, for a future purpose only Sauron knew..
Great party. As a suggestion for next the next time, please equalize the volume of the participants sound if possible. May not be possible in real time, but for those of us watching later it would be helpful. I'd be willing to donate for the cost of the effort, yes I know that it would be more than nominal.
It would make sense that the scenes of Bilbo finding the ring would look different in the two films. One was told from the perspective of Frodo and the other from Bilbo. Frodo probably pictured his Uncle looking a little different than his uncle pictured himself :)

I’m one of those people who prefer the change of Frodo choosing to take the Ring to Mordor over the book’s version of him doing it because it was in a prophecy. I personally think it adds to his character and him realizing the danger, what would happen if the Ring isn’t destroyed, despite him not knowing anything and wanting nothing more than to return to the Shire. I’m kinda the same way with Clarice in the Silence of the Lambs movie over the book.
