Tessie, It's wonderful you and Ken have adopted the Amish ways and applied it to your own lifestyle something I am working on here as well you and Ken have made your home really nice :-) Love you my Sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-)
I noticed you must have let the extra leaves down on your table and I think there's more room. I really like it. Looks more intimate. Love those kinda tables that you can shrink when you don't have family over. Lord bless you Tessie and everyone here. ❤
Amish are very good builders they made our bedroom furniture. I like living in our Amish community. It's all about getting back to the basics of living the old ways and bring up good family traditions. Tessie thanks you for reminding us we can live simple. God Bless You and all here.
Good Morning Tessie, Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, Wish you all a wonderful blessed Tuesday filled with Gods Joy and Happiness :-) Remember to pray for one another and for all around the world :-) God Bless You ! Love you all :-) Keep Smiling be safe :-)
Almost every week I hear somebody say, "I used to be Amish or I used to be Mennonite." What is the most common reason for leaving those religions? Seems like a good way of life even in this crazy world of 2024. Loved your video! It's always nice to see your homestead!
It's amazing that you asked this question because tomorrow I have a video on the answer for you I can only speak for my family and the reason why they left the plain mennonites was over the doctrine I go into great detail to Morrow and sharing with you what my mother taught me and why she less the plain church
Some women would call it abuse, but if you grew up in a strict environment, you might not see it that way. We were taught that the man is the head of the household and that Christ is the head of the man. It's just a different way of looking at things. Of course, in every religious sect, there is some abuse, and that's very bad.
@@HomesteadTessie Yes. Every organized religion has multiple kinds of abuse. The belief that the man is head of the household works well as long as the man does not begin to devalue the woman. Most women like to know they're cared for, but don't like being considered the maid or the person who does the work that a man would never do. They also should never be a target for their spouse's feelings of inadequacy. The psychology of the married couple changes with each stage of life, but religious beliefs never change. I think you have to put lots of non judgmental thoughts & effort into how your religion affects your marriage & make the best life possible using God as your gold standard.
I have serious health issues. Ive been living off of the pantry i made over the last few years. This year im playing the game how low can i go on my electric and heat bill. Ive gotten my electric bill down by 1/2! I actually love playing these kind of games. How long can i make items last that kind of stuff.i love your videos!!
Tessie! I would love to see ways you keep things neat. I do admit I have too much clutter and just retired from teaching. I am so ready to toss /donate things o no longer need. Certainly not a hoarder or anything close..but with this reorganization I would to see a few things that work for you in daily life. A routine? A place to store things neatly or whatever! I am going to dress every day when I wake up!
Those interior shots of your home look really good, Tessie. Your home exudes warmth and love from every angle. Today I got out all my hurricane lamps and cleaned them, filled them with Klean-Heat and checked their wicks, all in preparation for the power outages sure to come in the upcoming months.
Thank you for the video. Your home and outside property, are gorgeous, cozy and inviting. You and Ken have done a wonderful job on everything! Also, thanks for sharing the book. I like to read about the amish-I learn alot. I like to live as simply as possible. I have a whole collection of oil lamps, candles, firestarters, some food. I have enjoyed canning and dehydrating for a number of years. I enjoy gardening too, and use the clothes line and I have a room to hang things in when I need to. I have learned so very much from you!! Have a blessed evening!❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
It’s just good healthful living. Physically, mentally, and spiritually we are so much better off living like that. I grew up with wood heat, and when the electric went out we were still toasty warm and could cook. I miss having a clothesline. It always makes clothes smell so fresh. Enjoyed your show. Hugs from Alaska. ❤️
And yes amen to getting dressed first thing. Always did that. But then again we had livestock so no hanging around in pajamas on weekends and holidays like my kids friends families, never dreamed of doing that even now that the livestock are gone.

Excellent video! A "recession-proof lifestyle" sounds great to me, Tessie. You've said that homesteading is a mindset, and that has always stayed with me. As you know, my family lives in a second-floor apartment in a house. While we have some outdoor space, both that and our indoor space is quite limited. I'm always looking for more we can do with what we have, where we are; but right now, it is so much more about mindset, frugality, and learning those long-forgotten skills than it is about land. Even though I don't have my dream homestead-yet-I can still create much of that life here in our little space in NJ. ☺
For 25+ years I have loved books about simple living, especially from a Christian viewpoint. Some would call us minimalists, but that's because like with many Quaker, Amish and Mennonite friends of ours in our area, our home environment is quiet and stress free. Your videos often remind me of the book, A Place Called Simplicity by Claire Cloninger.♥ Do you have any of the books I have? Living On Less and Liking It More by Maxine Hancock, The book A Plain Life by Scott Savage who is a Quaker is a favorite. My mom lived up in mid Michigan Amish country. They came in at sometime in the 1970's and settled the area. We had moved with hubbies work to another state by then. I love the little store with all the old fashioned cooking gadgets and pans. Haven't been in years. Mother passed and I can no longer travel to visit remaining relatives.
I do not have wood heat because I rent but I would love to go back to that but I have seen on other RUclips channels where they get this fan that goes on top of your woodstove and as the heat rises the fan will start blowing without any electricity so you might want to look into that to help circulate the heat have a blessed day
Hi Tessie! I'm so behind. Playing catch-up. I love the Amish community near us, and admire their lifestyle. I once was told laundry needed to be hung upon the clothesline before dawn. I am looking for becoming more self sufficient, and downsizing our excessive stuff. I enjoy your channel, Tessie ❤❤❤
Enjoy the video immensely. You probably hear this a lot, but it does sound like short of solar electric. You look very much the way we live. I dress my own way. We are not very worldly or text savvy, and as a matter of fact, we live in the middle of an Amish community. And to your point you’re correct. Most of them have propane poweredrefrigerators deep freezes when they make bread and bakery goods they have commercial mixers that are running gas engines. The Amish life has changed a lot even in the 16 years I’ve left amongst them. Take a little bit of ideas from other people other cultures and you apply it to your own life and most importantly you live as God would have you to live based in the Bible. That’s my thoughts anyway. God bless.
If that were the case, I would have to put a trigger warning on every video. Some women are triggered by just about anything. Imagine a beautiful video of making candles, and a woman being triggered by that. If they are triggered by this video, they are going to be triggered by a lot of them that are coming up soon. I always love your comments, Charles. You are fantastic.
I could be Amish if it weren’t for all the authoritarian, patriarchal, religious nonsense. I’m an ex biblical scholar PhD student and can’t get into the whole god thing. However, their lifestyle from a prepping and self-sufficiency standpoint is dead on.
I totally understand that not everyone is interested in the religious aspects of the Amish lifestyle. But there's so much we can learn from them that doesn't have to do with religion. For me, it's all about simple living, and that's a life I've embraced fully.
