Well the A3 would only be appropriate for mid-war rifle grenadiers. Guadalcanal Marines had regular 1903's, most upgraded with large peep hole sights. Many were dated 1918, 1919, and through the 20's. A3's were initially ordered by the Army in Sept of 1941 and the production rate was initially low.
Rewatching this in 2016 makes me wonder why did they change the sprinting animation, some weapons, their sounds and animations, the overhead maps, that looked like actual maps.. They were awesome.
I wondered the same, I got RO heroes of Stalingrad with RS before actually watching the trailer. I watched a youtuber play it before I had steam, and within the week I got steam the game showed up on sale for free. Maybe they changed the sounds to give both sides an edge. Once you get ten hours into this game you have memorized all the gun sounds.
Just like the base game (RO2), bullets are projectiles that take a bit of time to travel and are also affected by gravity. The amount of bullet drop is at realistic levels though, so it's very minimal and not exaggerated like what you see in BF3.
greatest fps game ive ever played. only reason me and many fell out quicker than it should have lasted was because you guys got rid of all the custom servers and replaced almost every server to be the slow and painful waiting campaign servers. This game was your guy's greatest achievement, and you made it short lived.
I already own RO2, and feel bad because I got it at a massive discount. RO2 is an amazing game and I wish there were more like it. I love the realism of the realistic mode, especially in territory. I don't mind at all paying for this expansion additionally because I want to support the developers in making fucking awesome games. Not to mention that Rising Storm looks even more badass than the base game. I'm totally stoked to play this! Wish we had a release estimate.
Every month or so I'll go back and play BF3 to try and remember why I was so excited for it when it first came out. That game has nothing to it aside from the graphics. It takes a real multi-faceted game like Red Orchestra 2 to keep you interested.
I completely understand your concern, and would also like to see some more unexplored conflicts in WWII, but the general gaming population wouldn't be familiar with something the Brits were involved in (as an American, it makes me sad). This is more likely to appeal to a mass audience. Also, since this will be a TWI title, I'm sure we'll get plenty of new content from the devs and modders, so we just might see the 14th Army in Burma sometime in the future.
Graphics shouldn't be a real factor. If they focused on graphics more, no matter how good a game looks, people will move on to the next pretty thing and forget about the old game. If you make a fun game, people will remember that. Thats what RO2 did WITH good graphics!
Please Tripwire, PLEASE get a mod team working on a North African theatre expansion with the British + Italians. Every server I join on Rising Storm is talking about it, my body is advised and I would just love to see RO2 expand more on its vehicle combat mechanics; North Africa would be the ideal setting for it.
There were some issues with the gameplay (I know it's early to judge), but what I really hope they improve is to add more realistic textures because as of right now it looks like everything is right off the factory floor, even the wood and concrete of bunkers/trenches, add a few burns, chips and bullet holes and it should look nice.
It's because your advice on wanting better graphics better costs money on the developers, a lot of people who want better graphics are a big request now a days, so developers are quick to actually follow up on that demand to get a big appeal.
No offense tripwire, but are you guys working on a better Halloween Killing Floor event? Because I have higher expectations than last year's KF event. It was great and all, but I was sort of hoping for a new KF holiday based map, and it would be awesome if you guys can add some more new weapons in game especially more unique weapons like the husk gun! :P
So in theory, as we will have German and American armies, we can maybe expect D-day style maps in Red Orchestra 2 in the future? Not sure if it'd work well in-game, but it would be cool to try.
devpost in official tripwire forums: "If you have RO:HoS, you will see RS maps in the server browser, and vice versa. If you get RS, you will get RO:HoS Multiplayer as part of the deal. If you already own HoS, you can get RS as an upgrade. I can't really discuss details of release more, right now." that should clear the confusion guys
It is going to be a challenge for sure going Japanese though, Rifleman is one of the best classes in ROOST and HOS, but thats only because chances are your facing up against another Bolt action rifleman more than half the time.
If you own Battlefield 2 you can download Forggoten Hope 2. It's a huge WW2 mod. You can play as German, Italian, American or British. Planes in that game are awsome because they make that scary sound when they are dive bombing. Sometimes tanks are incredibly irritating but there are so many guns, vehicles and giant maps that it is awsome mod.
I got the impression that this would be free. That's one of the reason I pre-ordered the game to begin with. Not only could I not play the game for the longest time, they even reset the stats at one point forcing everyone to start over with no unlocks etc. RO2 is a game that I enjoyed (when it finally worked that is) but I won't be returning to it at this point. At least not if I have to pay for this expansion and the game again.
This is really good, I've got it recently and am not disappointed in this game! Unique experience with the free aim, I'd love to see a modern military FPS in this engine or style; It'd be great IMO. With probably some bigger maps including some open/foresty/hillish environments a updated version of the engine could provide.... I've got insurgency BTW, this aside.
I doubt it. They're called 'The Forgotten Army' for a reason despite the monumental and almost super human effort involved in wrenching the Japanese out of the harshest jungle on the planet. It was an infantryman's war through and through - Britons, Sikh's, Punjabi's, East African's, etc, all bound together under the auspices of Slim and Auchinleck.
Maybe. Depends on how freely people can combine the Rising Storm assets with the base game assets, if it's possible to create maps where one side is American and one side is German then yes that could happen. I imagine it would be fun to hear Germans referring to the Americans as "Ivan" all the time though.
So back when RO2 was released the guys at tripwire had me thinking that this was a "mod" that was to be released "shortly after" the release of RO2. It's been a year now :/ I feel bad that the game has almost no community, so much promise...
Iwo Jima looks like a really epic map, but i do think that the bunkers should be a bit more hidden. The Japanese hid themself and did not shoot untill the beach was totally crowded and the americans adnvanced towards the hills.
I hope I can get a clarification on this: This will be a stand-alone expansion right? But the people that buy the expansion get access to RO2's MP content, meaning that we original owners of RO2 have to pay for the expansion, while the people that buy the expansion get both? Will we get this expansion free or will we get a heavy discount, because if not I feel a like I got the shaft.
Looks cool, However i'm still more interested in the eastern front, So i'm looking forward to more RO2 content. This will be a good change of pace every now and then though, I'll buy it
Would be great if this could be build in game. You wouldn't have to change from the main game to the mod, but the mod could work just from loading the stuff the server says to. More players if it came as a free addon downloaded from a "update"
Yes it's quite sad that the Aussies aren't given any credit. It seems as though the devs think the spetics were the only ones who fought in the pacific.
I agree with you that it would have been better without, but the fact remains that it does have them. Regardless of what you think of unlocks, it's was still annoying to see all that "progress" just wiped out due to the initial version of the game being so unfinished though.
i think i am too late to comment this video. but I want know why I don't have the ultra graphic with the character shadows like in the video my game is rlly ugly there no shadow how to make it on?
If you own RO2 they said you will be able to play it but with limitations, Such as class limits. I'm going to buy it to avoid not being able to play a class I like. I also heard if you own RO2 there will be a discount. However all of the exact details haven't been released yet
Anyone else not liking the incredibly small iron-sights the US weapons have? I know they are made to spec, but the human eye can see much easier through them IRL than they do in this game.
Really? I mean I guess I can't wrap my head around what your saying because of some games that are on console. Can you explain what that they have implemented into this game that makes it to powerful to run on console?
Okay few things ... Firstly, the only actual similarity between this and CoD is that you can AIM DOWN THE SIGHTS .. the aiming mechanics are totally different, there are ballistics, certain guns like the MG34 also needs to have its barrels changed out when it overheats...in summary, the mechanics are TOTALLY different and this is MUCH more hardcore. And CoD did not "invent" aiming down the sights....they copied earlier games. If you like hardcore FPS games you should try RO2.
I searched the forums and didn't find any solid information on whether it's going to be free or not. I hope Tripwire answers soon, because people are confused.
Now all the need is a western front DLC, Africa and/ or Europe, that way they can get a British Faction into the game, would love to play this as the British in Europe and Africa.
I'll buy this if there is a proper Realism Mode, plus all of the great features from RO OST such as command system, ammo pouches (but tweaked this time..) bigger maps and so on. Because I was dissapointed with RO2. The game itself have pontetiel but I think it tried to be something it simply isnt and therefore it became a little bit watered down.
I love RO2, and not just because of the awesome game play, I love it cause it has nothing to do with the yanks. If this expansion rightfully followed the Aussies (which is the whole reason of the Pacific Theatre in WWII), I would play it. But seeing how it's nothing new and just another Pacific Theatre about the yanks, I will be passing. (I'd like to say I've got nothing against my American friends, and yes they played a huge part in the Pacific Theatre, but god it's been done.)
Bought RO2 at release in the hope of getting a kinda-realistic WW2 game. First, that unlock shit pissed me off after a few rounds, but at least it was played like a tactical shooter, than the game got more and more to CoDWaW crap with freeaim, and 5 weeks i played it again afer a very long time only to find out that it´s now a camping party for campers, not a single movement on the map. And not to mention the shitload of bugs many of us had to deal with over months.
Im talking more about how the human eye works than the tactical use of US firearms-usage. Although it is a small hole, the eye can still recieve alot more cognitive information (if that is the correct term) through the hole than what is shown in-game. (a solution could be that the iron-sights is partially ''see-through'' in a blurry kinda way.) Sry for typos and bad wording, I am currently shitfaced-drunk.
I hope they're not dumb enough to try and sell this. RO2 is still on life support a year later and the last thing that'll help their image or the fanbase is to charge money for more unfinished content and splitting the community.

Really they did that? How do you know?
Looks amazing, thanks for the continuing support !
I hope you continue making incredible shooters, Tripwire. Other shooters come and go but games like RO2 and Killing Floor have real lasting quality.
Still one of the most loved games on Steam.
Every month or so I'll go back and play BF3 to try and remember why I was so excited for it when it first came out. That game has nothing to it aside from the graphics. It takes a real multi-faceted game like Red Orchestra 2 to keep you interested.

is it me or they fucked the map betio up? this version looks way better and seems more balanced
ikr? the spawn bunker seemed like an excellent idea.
There were some issues with the gameplay (I know it's early to judge), but what I really hope they improve is to add more realistic textures because as of right now it looks like everything is right off the factory floor, even the wood and concrete of bunkers/trenches, add a few burns, chips and bullet holes and it should look nice.

That bunker thing is a really cool idea
I have been waiting for this for too long now. Cant....fucking....WAIT!!!
This actually looks really good, I wasn't blown away by RO2 but still. Getting everyone to do a bayonet charge does sound like a great laugh!
No offense tripwire, but are you guys working on a better Halloween Killing Floor event? Because I have higher expectations than last year's KF event. RUNNING IN THE 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is going to be a challenge for sure going Japanese though, Rifleman is one of the best classes in ROOST and HOS, but thats only because chances are your facing up against another Bolt action rifleman more than half the time.
good job Tripwire!

Hooah! Great, cant wait to this to be released, already joined a realism unit for it. :)
Maybe.
Depends on how freely people can combine the Rising Storm assets with the base game assets, if it's possible to create maps where one side is American and one side is German then yes that could happen.
I imagine it would be fun to hear Germans referring to the Americans as "Ivan" all the time though.
those maps look pretty damn fun
You cant expect that everything in a game is perfect, the Graphics are maybe "old" but its not like it destroys the atmosphere or something.
So back when RO2 was released the guys at tripwire had me thinking that this was a "mod" that was to be released "shortly after" the release of RO2. It's been a year now :/

This is a great update, but we need some good old tank maps and at least the panther and tiger for our game :D
I hope I can get a clarification on this: This will be a stand-alone expansion right? Rising Storm looks really cool, likely to get it
this game looks insanely cool
Looks really, really interesting!
Am I the only one who think these graphics blow cod,bf etc..., in the dust ? They seem 10 times better
TWI is co-developing it with a group of community modders.
Will the Red Orchestra 2 owners get this in an update or something? They said we would get DLCs and expansions for free.
im not one to hate on the awsome team in TWI, but all the cracking from gunfire was giving me a headache, is the gameplay always like that?
Looks cool, However i'm still more interested in the eastern front, So i'm looking forward to more RO2 content. This will be a good change of pace every now and then though, I'll buy it
Would be great if this could be build in game. You wouldn't have to change from the main game to the mod, but the mod could work just from loading the stuff the server says to. More players if it came as a free addon downloaded from a "update"
No, The M1903A4 is the sniper version of the weapon.

I have not seen it in game.
The M1 Carbine, Thompson SMG, M1 Garand, BAR, and Flamethrower I have seen. No M1903A3 Springfield yet.
YOU ARE NOT CUT OUT FOR WAR, SOLDIER!
Anyone else not liking the incredibly small iron-sights the US weapons have? I know they are made to spec, but the human eye can see much easier through them IRL than they do in this game.
I'm so looking forward to this expansion. I love the Red Orchestra franchise!
What theater are you looking for exactly?
Ahh... I can imagine the guts flying all over the place with fancy physics and graphics. They need to do this.
am I the only one that thinks RO2's graphics are incredible?
There is a mod in works, maybe they will do the same as they did with the RS team.
Really? I mean I guess I can't wrap my head around what your saying because of some games that are on console. Can you explain what that they have implemented into this game that makes it to powerful to run on console?
Didn't they announce it free already? Because I do belive what he says only applies to those who do not own Red Orchestra.
Alright now I understand. Thanks for explaining all this to me.
How if its free for those who own RO2 but with limitations? And they also get a significant discount.
tripwire makes some awesome games :D
Okay few things ... Firstly, the only actual similarity between this and CoD is that you can AIM DOWN THE SIGHTS .. the aiming mechanics are totally different, there are ballistics, certain guns like the MG34 also needs to have its barrels changed out when it overheats...in summary, the mechanics are TOTALLY different and this is MUCH more hardcore.

Have you ever had a go at Ro1?
Now all the need is a western front DLC, Africa and/ or Europe, that way they can get a British Faction into the game, would love to play this as the British in Europe and Africa.
will there be any maps with the ANZAC?
you guys are amazing
Shin Gunto made my day!
And why? It's using the UE3(.5?) engine so im pretty sure you could easily run this game on consoles.
i like the older lighting on iwo
Wasnt it a mod from the start and now an expantion?
Well...you got to play the game a lot earlier than everyone buying the expansion...
Nice cameo by Yoshiro! @ 04:57 lol
I have RO2:HoS deluxe editio... will i get this game :( ?
i think the iron sights should be a little less bulky on the tommy gun... i cant imagine being able to see anyone while using them :I
Looks so awesome! :D
Is this new game or DLC for Red Orchestra?
Honestly, I think he played that on the lowest settings. Realism looks like.. realism.
They will, infact theres some screens with it :)
this looks awesome.
It's a cool expansion, but the player base is really low, and this is going to split the player base even more.
i hope there will be death screams it was awesome in red orchestrea heroes of stalingrad
I love RO2, and not just because of the awesome game play, I love it cause it has nothing to do with the yanks. TRIPWIRE + BOHEMIA FTW! LOVE YOU TRIPWIRE :d
OMG Awesome, can't wait!
Is this ever coming out?
Dude... The graphics are not bad...
Im talking more about how the human eye works than the tactical use of US firearms-usage. Although it is a small hole, the eye can still recieve alot more cognitive information (if that is the correct term) through the hole than what is shown in-game. (a solution could be that the iron-sights is partially ''see-through'' in a blurry kinda way.)
Sry for typos and bad wording, I am currently shitfaced-drunk.
How much will this cost?
The RS devs said they might add Aussies and Brits later after launch.
Do I need Red Orchestra 2 to play this or is it a single game?
I love the japanese voice acting!
Do you have to unlock upgrades? If yes, then I'm not installing it.
There is only one reason to release Killing Floor 2 : story mode (a-la L4D2), and this will be awesome.
I hope they're not dumb enough to try and sell this. RO2 is still on life support a year later and the last thing that'll help their image or the fanbase is to charge money for more unfinished content and splitting the community.
