Hi Tiho. Good to know that you learnt that they are in progress to add in the sampler. Kudos to you, for your great work that must have pressurised them to add in the sampler. Good educational videos and I appreciate. Regards from Antonio, Goa the state of India.
Thank you Tiho. I found your discussion to be very interesting, and informative. As it is, I've find that for me, playability is my number one priority. I'm not using a Genos, but PSR S970. There are many factors as to why I play this machine over a Genos or Tyros 5. These include familiarity of the layout, as well as size and weight. I'm an old man who loves too play for churches and Senior citizens groups, so I get a lot of workout. With that in mind, I've stopped driving a large van, for economic reasons, but my keyboard, and other equipment all fit very nicely in the back of my Ford Escape when I've got the front of the car full of people, which is almost always true. The weight factor is also problematic, as I have a bad heart and most always it's only my wife and I who are doing transportation, setups and takedowns of the equipment. The S970 is a perfect balance for all of these. I'd certainly love to have a larger keyboard, but out just isn't a practical choice. Second, I don't find the alteration or creation of styles to be a limiting factor in Cmaj. If I need to test how the style sounds in another key, it's simply a matter of hitting the transpose key. For that matter, if I need other stilted and voices I can buy sound or style packs from Yamaha or elsewhere. Besides which, there are numerous places point the internet to download tens of thousands of styles and voices for your keyboard. Like you, I'm playing music from just about any genre and don't feel cheated or limited in any way. Thanks again. I was most interested in your take on both of these keyboards. Also,
Excellent honest and Frank discussion in this video. I have been told that a sample import feature will become available on the SD-90 in time so hopefully videos like this will press Ketron to move forward with it. I have a Genos already but just to clarify that the Genos (same with Tyros 5) imports samples but doesn’t actually have an on board sampler. Samples have to be imported via the YEM (Yamaha Expansion manager )computer program since Tyros 4 when Yamaha did away with the onboard custom voice creator in their assumption that everybody has computers now, I know in your description this is what you meant so I am probably just splitting hairs here. But if someone were to buy a Genos and doesn’t use a computer then they would not have a way be able to use samples on it. So it’s not like the Roland Fantom or Akai samplers in that way. I don’t know if the Korg has an actual sampler or not though. If you were referring to the PA4X 😎
Bravo Tihomir !!! Right said about sampler on ketron ... Friend of mine has sd9 and he is waiting for an update to have free/ open sampler to sd9 as it is on specs for instrument (700mb) ... Will see when ketron will gives the update ... Thanks for your video !!!
Hello Tiho. Thank you very much for your detailed and helpful videos. I would have some specific questions : Concerning the drums, would you use more often the Ketron audio drums rather than the Yam "Revodrums"? I saw that you used in some of your styles the Ketron spanish Gipsy Rumba Live Guitars : Could you tell me if it's possible to lower the tempo of these gipsy patterns live guitars to 85 bpm, in order to play slow gipsy rumbas ? (I don't know at which original tempo those patterns are recorded, but I hope that Ketron has planned various original tempos : for ex some loops at 115, and another at 90, in order to have more flexibility. Because I fear that the Ketron Time stretching algoritm is not good enough... Thank you very much Tiho for your attention.
yes i would you use more often the Ketron audio drums or drum kits rather than the Yam "Revodrums" Tempo change is limited if you are using Live drums. i prefer drum kits to Live drums for flexibility but I like to use some Live drums because sound quality and reality.
I miss the words you were going to say because the recording stopped before you finish. I have seen lot of 'guidance' videos on keyboards but I got the real guidance from this video. By the way, can you please say some word about Roland? Does any of it's model has sampler? Does Ketron SD9 keyboard has sampler built-in?
Fantasticno objasnjeno, prodao sam pa3x da bih kupio genos, kako vise upoznajem genos...sve vise zalim za korgom iako genos stvarno zvuci fantasticno sa onim sto vec ima.
Thanks for your video! I'm in the decision to buy or Yamaha Genos or Ketron SD9, I play live WITHOUT midi file but only live . I research great sounds, and flexibility and fast change from song to song. Can you tell me what is for you the best choice? Thanks for you reply.
Excellent advice. I have a Yamaha Genos and as much as I love it and the sound quality, its is a difficult beast to use. I.e. I agree that usability isn't as good as it could be. There's a steep learning curve when wanting to do your own thing and make changes. It's great for just using as is set-up out-of-the-box. It's not as intuitive to use as they make you believe. I hope Yamaha will address this in future software updates or allow integrations with editing software for Mac & PC. One can only hope!
Hello Tiho, great discussion... I work with Genos now 1 year... but have you problem with the live control knob?. When you put up for example the Rythm2/bass/chord/ ...the volume go up directly and not gradually...make me crazy this problem!!!
Quick Question .... Not a forum but perhaps someone reading this might comment .... Friend of mine simply loves the Irish Country styles loaded on his Solton MS 60 and would like to convert them for use in his year old Genos ..... Any suggestions how an aging musician could achieve this 🙏
If it is possible to convert those styles to MIDI than import MIDI ti style Magic and save as a Yamaha Genos Style. I think it should be possible. If MS60 has style extension .PAT it is possible. Yes this is not forum but there is your answer.
The Sd90 does have a sampler and the Genos has a non functioning sampler not even on board the machine. The genos like the tyros 5 has no gain or 3 band EQ in the sampler and style/ sound mixer
Kudos to you, for your great work that must have pressurised them to add in the sampler. Good educational videos and I appreciate. Regards from Antonio, Goa the state of India.
Dear Tiho, you said that the two instruments have the same price, but you have to consider that Ketron is full of audio drums, which are the best PLUS of ketron. Genos has not audio drums except for some style, and if you want it you have to buy it (high expense)
Genos is overall better, because left hand is little bit better on ketron, but right side is far better in genos. Ketron samples are from last century type of sounds, just basic single sound and that is it. On genos and p4x you can play one sound in different way, have much more flexibility and expression.
Hello Tico, I have SD9 since 1 year, and I could test Genos for 2 weeks at home, and finally I decided for SD9. However I have to recognize that Genos has all the: Movie, Ballad, New age sections that are better than SD9, and also the guitar and organ sounds are very good. I find the sound from Ketron that its more natural and has more density of sound, Yamaha in general sounds a bit "nasal" to me. Which is your impression about "quality sound" and "styles" of each instrument?
Bravo Tihomire, realno nista bez semplera, sve ostalo je zanimljivo ali cemu to vodi kada nije upotrebljivo?Korg je bio i ostao najbolji.Kompromis svega sto treba i cini ga savrsenim za svirke.
Genos doesn’t have mixing capabilities in style? What you mean? Also styles can be written in any key, not only C major. Korg doesn’t have more features. The main one is that it can’t loop in sequencer and every new quick recording erases the previous take. I have no clue about ketron but I wouldn’t trust it over Yamaha. I am sorry but I don’t agree with everything that you say. Have a good one!
During live performing if you want to mix drums elements (Snare, Kick, OH or anything else) it is possible to do on Ketron or Korg but not on Yamaha Genos
Korg has all options to create a style from scratch. Yamaha can be used for style assembly and I do it, but from scratch? Yamaha is pretty good, when you want to add content you can buy, but SD90 is good to import your own audio drums.
Genos tries to recreate a real band. It's more flexible, but pretty artificial. Ketron uses real drum and guitar loops. Genos can play all the Tyros 5 audio styles, but each one has short patterns, the selection has styles that are too special, the drum sound is a bit muddy. So I would say, when you add a SD90, a Tyros 4 would also do. Create a compatible user drum kit on SD90 and let the Yamaha style play the Ketron styles. I did it and am pretty amazed, how good a Yamaha style can sound, when using a Ketron SD90
i was still in hope to hear any example for your lot of talking.... Why you sit at the Keyboards? for just talking and talking you also can sit in front of Pictures! or write a book! sorry. but until the end of the video i still was in hope to get any compare... is your ketron still working or its just a demo product like dummy Smartphones in a Smartphone-shop?....
A mogao si malo i Srpsko-Hrvatski pricati da te ljudi razumeju! I druga stvar, sta si ti ovim videom dokazao? Da si svirao nesto pa da cujemo razliku...ovako, samo brbljanje a nema DOKAZA! Thank you
The points you raise are spot on! they really are!

Thanks for doing this. I'd love to see a follow-up if and when Ketron adds the sampler functionality to see how you like it.
Interesting Video Thanks 👍 And so the style v instrument sample dilemma continues ......
You are right. They never is complete
You are 100% right!
Thank you.
Wow you play very well. Thanks for the video nice sounds

Sd 9 ! My opinion :)

Tiho2012 Hi Tito... Sincere thanks for your reply and solution suggested ...... I’ll try doing doing this for my friend ..... Take Care ... Gerry

Hi friends. I just got e mail that sampler option is in progres. That i a grate news.

Happy New Year Tiho , molim te razlika megu tyros 5 - Genos vocalizer i SD9 vocalizer, ako moze, pozzz :)

I agree that Ketron has the best rhythm section and I agree that Korg PA4 and Genos generally have better Solo Section.
Now you can do sampling on ketron
Yes. Thank you

In live performing situation I prefer Ketron Styles. Sounds are about the same.
Thank you

And also you don’t speak about launch pad, very powerful with samples and loops
Genos you can make your own styles.

The average person don't care, it doesn't replace the real instrument.
