Everyone got on me for buildinging a B18b1/B16 head $20k boosted B series LsVtec motor for my 95 EJ1 coupe. I am 58 and period correct is very important to me and being able to ramp up my tune to 600 if i want i really dont have to worry about getting gapped to frequently.
Love both engine's but I am much more nostalgic for B series. K is definitely more powerful but IMO B series sounds better and looks better in the engine bay!
K is good for NA B is good for Boost I love both motors but when it comes down to reliable and easier to maintenance for power wise B is more simple. K is the easiest to go NA making 300whp swap to a different shell It’s kinda like a pick ur poison because K turbo ur gonna either blow up or tranny take a shiet on u no joke FR. B for NA like PMR/LSV/B20V its great but it dont last cuz u will drop a valve or spun bearing. Just my opinion lol
Maybe if you’re trying to educate people and not have a conversation, people are gonna take this as an educational purpose the real reason why b series is not as popular because it spins the opposite way that all other motors spin. The case series was the first engine to spend the “correct” being able to swap it in rear wheel drive applications. That’s one of the big factors why K series is more popular than B series
Scott wants an OEM+, but period correct build. Something you can daily drive but get brownie points at an event or car show. For motorsports, K series is the way or even the new L15 motors.
I had a b20v on a gsr trans with a tuner2 cams a bisi 4-1 header with a 8lb flywheel on a s300 made like 190 whp! I needed more power so went k20z3 head on a k24 block with a buncha goodies
wow love this podcast I personally owned a Da9 integra gs and it's lsv turbo at first I wanted to go k but same stuff those b series lsv turbos sounds great 👍
DING, DING, DING! We have a winner! Quite frankly, I’m surprised at how few people realize this. The same, of course, is true of H-series, which is the TRUE predecessor of the K-series. It spun backwards, and was not conducive to swapping into many platforms.
I ported my runners to be big like the K and oversized valves with angel throt breaths more than a stock K....I bought b18c and saved money and just port and polished and valves and valve job runs hard
Period correct stick with B. budget daily driver that's fast go K. Went 12 .0 stock K24 Type s 6spd. My kid drove that integra everyday went to school with it. The weak link on K is the transmission. We spend money on the transmission and the stock K went 11.5
I managed to get a B18C complete with transmission (J4D LSD) right before the price skyrocketed away from $4.5-5.5K. I had to swap it in months later due to moving house. It was a bit sudden but the swap was straight forward and the car (EG Hatch) is extremely lively at 188whp.
I have a 2000 civic Si with under 50k miles. Swapped and build with a B18c1 engine sleeved by golden eagle. Block is for up to 1200hp but only put 900hp piston with stage 2 cams turbo. But I will be selling it next summer. Basically is like a new car
What should be mentioned is that, despite the fact that K-series is almost always compared to B-series, it’s actually based off of H-series engines. It’s a physically larger engine than B-series and shares the same 94mm bore spacing with H-series (vs 90mm bore spacing on B-series). Also, with some machine work, crankshafts can be swapped between the two. And it is possible to use K-series intake manifolds on H-series with a simple adaptor. None of this is possible between K and B.
can someone explain to me as to why more guys are using b series for boost, is there something good that the b series has for boost than a k series or is it only because of the cost?
I definitely think they are both great engines... i have a sleeved/built b18c5 turbocharged eg hatch... 518 to wheels...i bought the car new in 1993 😮...lol fun stuff that i built many years ago. As for the debate, I do feel nastalgia for the old school b series stuff... but my biggest preference for the b series stuff is due to that i feel that imo the 80s/90s era honda (and toyota) products were the most reliable and best built...of pretty much any cars ever manufactured til this day. I think it was a "sweet spot" for automobiles. I work on many different cars and bikes as im a mechanic and I dont think the newer honda products are at "that" level...imo no modern vehicles are at that level. Not that the newer honda stuff is necessarily bad...just as i said not at the level it was. Also wondering why in the still shot where yall show 2 engines and say b vs k during the the talking (one maroon and other red valve covers)... theyre both b series lol...haha found it kind of funny. Thanks for the content.
I've got a b20vtec with a type r crank foraged rods type r head cams and I love it tuned on a haltec elite in a 93 da9 I will be doing a k24a2 in my 96 civic as I want both for different reasons I will be boosting both
I think budget is the major factor . But I think the b series has more of a nasty unique vibe and specific sound . I think it’s almost like 1j vs 2j yea the 2 j is better but damn the 1j sound crazy .
K is better all around. People will say "oh but the record holder is B series" yes but that's a 1 of 1 build. For your average person you will never build a b. Series like that. It's only a matter of time until K series beats speedfactory

You had it right, don't listen to the naysayers. If period correct is important, that's the way to go. 👏👏👏
Love both engine's but I am much more nostalgic for B series. K is definitely more powerful but IMO B series sounds better and looks better in the engine bay!
it's the exposed belts on the B series that does it for me. 👀
K is good for NA
B is good for Boost

Man I’m surprised the back and forth misinformed knowledge between the two. This needs a re-do
just a conversation. We DO NOT claim to be experts in Honda engines.
Thanks I won’t be watching this video as I paused this ad before starting

U need pistons and cams for a b20v to get to 220-230hp.
@@vebzuia4336that’s my set up and on my crx running 6.9 all motor no k can keep up all motor

the MAIN REASON WHY THE B WASNT SWAPPED AS MUCH AS THE K IS BECAUSE THE ROTATED BACKWARDS TO NORMAL TRANSMISSION s
DING, DING, DING!
We have a winner!

There are a few b20vtec turbo and b18c turbo 89ish mr2 cars that are pretty quick also
I ported my runners to be big like the K and oversized valves with angel throt breaths more than a stock K....I bought b18c and saved money and just port and polished and valves and valve job runs hard
sounds dope. Best of both worlds right there.
@@konigwheels yes indeed it is
i really love the way the b series sounds over the k series

The fastest Honda is speedfactory awd B series their is a reason why they use the b series platform instead of the k series in there fastest car
their running everything billet, there is a 1700hp k series awd thats about to hit a 6 second pass, speedfactory is running 2100whp and did a 6.91
How about no war

Same im still torn between the two also but i hear that the b series loves boost tho
less compression is better for boost

Lmao people only like the b for sound. Im probably getting old but I prefer the nice mellow tone from an exhaust and not the obnoxious fart cannons 😂
obnoxious fart cannon hahaha.
As a former 9th gen fb6 owner, They say k is the way, I say, b is the key.
ok, but what about a single jingle with a disco boy!

I love my lsv turbo but k is killer
H SERIES 💪🏽 the original big block ,& predecessor of the K24
Good point. Most people don’t seem to realize that K-series is an updated H-series rather than updated B-series.
Um in the process of collecting for a kswap
Nice! Let us know how the build goes!
The D series in the thumbnail 😅

K24a is jdm, k24a2 is tsx
i VTEC changed the game, cam phasing
B series till I'm dead, I dd a 99 hatch ls-v, ac, ps, I'm loving life. I drive this car on Rd trips and beat on it at tail of the dragon.
Great hot take
I'm finding it hard to listen to a podcast where these 2 barely know which motors went, where.
This is sad, y'all, are not honda, boys
god i truly wish i understood y’all, im learning :|

K is great as a daily and N/A. B is still the king.
