- Just touching base this spooky season. See my 3 biggest embarrassments: my dirty desk, my mullet, and my AWFUL abandoned 2019 halloween project.
I fell asleep while rendering, hence it's a day late. Sorry. Кино
7:46 "The plan was to trick people into thinking this was another edit, like the last one, like it'd be really similar at first and and then it dawns on you that a real person *has* to be singing this."
WELL IT FUCKING WORKED. I remember waiting for the edits to start and my eyes bugging out when the voice smoothly transitioned into singing about melting trees and rotten meat and just being astounded and horrified at how indistinguishable it was from the real thing
SAME!
I'm only now realizing this, I figured this just just remixing some statements that were less creepy in the original context
It worked perfectly on me, I didn't suspect anything until the bloatflies line, and even then I was like "am I just misremembering how the song went...? It's been years and years since I last heard it." So it dawned gradually and effectively.
Yeah I think that was my favorite part of the video, that you can't tell it's a real person singing new vocals at first. That and the spooky drop where the voice filter comes in. Amazing.
Yeah, at some point the thought of "Hey, this doesn't sound right" occurred to me and I think it took way too long.
i love the fact that the pumpkin dudes are just referred to as “THE GOURD.” it’s so ominous lol
its just a type of fruit, but still yeah its a neat name
To add an extra layer: in the first video, GourdChat transitions to GoredChat after the guy dies. They're the Gored.
security gourd
The Boys? na bro i prefer The Gourd
My hometown is well known for pumpkins. Our mascot is a jack o lantern with green limbs named Gourdy. Now I think of this series whenever I see him.
"A lot of people think that was intentional for the story, and maybe it is now" is always a sentence I love to hear. always nice to hear mistakes turn to plot points

It's funny, this is something you learn quickly if you run tabletop RPGs, but a lot of writers never figure out that their audience is sometimes more clever than them.

I played the mystery game "Her Story" after watching Kiss Me(Kill Me), without giving too much, the format of Her Story is centered on the concept of illegally accessing a police computer to look up confidential files, with the whole game being played via this old police computer with an archaic lookup system, and I think in the back of my mind while playing it i had this anxiety that the game would take a horror turn PURELY because of that video.
It's funny actually. As someone who had to play that game as part of my Game Design college course years ago, I actually felt that the game should've been marketed as a psychological horror game simply because of the game's unnerving atmosphere involving the game's various clips or the police sirens you hear whenever you make any progress during the investigation.
@@king2.0smods17 Superliminal has a similar effect on me, I can't play it because I just get so viscerally scared playing it
If you want a game where you get into confidential police files that has a horror twist and is similar to the KISS/KILL ME video, try simulacra!

Juliet did so well with matching the original artist that whenever i hear it on the radio at work I half expect to hear the distorted lyrics.
I nearly can't listen to it when it comes on at work because all I can think of is this far superior version and how it chilled me to my core.
Same; heard it in the middle of a store a couple of months ago and just about had an existential crisis for a second.
The first time I ever recalling hearing the original song was... like a day or two after Halloween (JT's video). It just made me laugh to myself a lot, that was during work
Every time this song plays on the radio (at work) I smile.
Heard the og at the dentist, felt incredible dread, thanks JerryTerry
I love how the monitor's background gets increasingly more clearly skin. The yuckiets detail in the whole thing tbh
I noticed that it was becoming skin at the lyric "But every way I turn there's rotting meat", and I remember clearly, the monitor turning to skin paired with that lyric made me wanna throw up.
It looked to me like the back of an eyeball. Especially the way it changes color and “burns away” like the nerves and lens are being eaten away and fading to black as blindness takes hold.
Not gonna lie, Kiss me Kill me freaked me out SO MUCH. I actively listen to The Boys just for fun, but kiss me kill me is LEGITIMATELY too scary to me
Same bro, i have some woods near my house that I pass through a lot to get to the park I like hanging out at- I was absolutely on-edge walking through the woods for a solid few months after listening to the song (and for the record, no I don't scare easy lol)
I cant even listen to the original song without feeling panicked tbh... It kills me everytime it comes on the radio at work
i remember watching it once late at night LMAO now it's kind of a couple song for me and my gf 🐌
Literally, The Boys Are Back In Town (to kill you) is freaky, but ultimately silly. Kiss Me Kill Me made me wanna puke the first time I watched it.
@@joyflameball SAME!!
I've been a big fan for a while, and I was before watching "Kiss Me", but I feel like my experience was diminished a little due to not hearing the original before. However, I did later hear the OG in a gas station parking lot, and that's when I came to appreciate the singer's masterful mimicking of the original.
The fucking whiplash I got listening to it
@@555Soupy555 it like the whiplash was a fucking hammer Jesus Christ.
i heard the original a few days after hearing this version while in a grocery store (and i never heard the original) and i was so concerned
I had the same experience! Watched Kill Me first and later heard the original being played in my awful local store, the store's speakers are trash though so it was quite muffled, giving off a bit of an eerie vibe. I was amused.
Kiss me was a song I vaguely remember some AMVS using so coming into Kill me was CRAZY. Like how Jerry explains that it lulls you into thinking its an edit like Boys are Back was true with me. I cannot wait for any knew lore that may happen.
The implications of “The orange text was meant to make you think of the gourd, but not because it IS the gourd. It’s something _else_ “ is BAFFLING. This third analyst is connected to the Gourd in some way? He doesn’t seem to be sabotaging things. If he were somehow working with the gourd directly, the results would be like “Nope, woman is just delusional, nothing suspicious here.” So we can rule that out. But at the same time, there’s apparently a connection there SOMEWHERE… I’m honestly stumped. Also! When the twinkle boys motif comes back in, the “Where is he?” comment is SUPER ominous. The gourd is somehow tied into this woman momentarily coming to her senses? Did the _gourd_ somehow weaken whatever was possessing her?? That seems out of character for the gourd. Isn’t he the cause of multiple deaths in the records? Something is VERY off, and I have no clue what to make of it. Open to ideas.
About the orange text: I think I might be that the analyst isn't the Gourd *yet*. The monsters in the story are known to be some sort of mindflayers who transform their victims into further vectors for their takeover like kiss me girl. The Gourds are just that process but the product is a digital agent rather than a physical one. The Gourds both mimic ordinary computer programs but reflect the agency of their masters and have personality beyond a simple program.
simplest explanation is just that the orange text investigator was "brought on" for cases that were supernatural in nature and had previous experience with other cases involving gourd/gourdchat
yea i'd agree with whynaut. Seems like a lot of police cases has involved gourdchat so it seems to me like the specialist is brought on for those gourdchat mysteries.
Maybe by weakening the hold on the girl, the gourd was hoping whomever was with her might drop their guard and get got too. Unfortunately the gun man arrived and ruined it.
It could be that rather than weakening the girl's affliction the gourd pulls back the veil, so to speak, and let's us see that she's fully conscious and aware but not in control. There are no police notes during that whole section, and the flesh background does go through some kind of transition before fading; it's possible that from the police POV it's just silent until the gunman arrives or that the kill me section straight up didn't exist until the gourd added it onto the recording.
Your lyrics and Juliette's performance are so good! For weeks after I saw this, I would be humming this song and randomly sing bits like "your bones will harden and your skin will slough" to myself, trying to mimic Juliette's delivery as best I can.
Also "sniff, sniff" is the most funny yet ominous turn in the lyrics.
That is the cutest thing I have ever read 😭
give it a good _sniff_
"your bones will harden and your skin will slough"
Happens to be my fav line. Mostly because I've always enjoyed slough as a descriptive word.
@@PrincessSunbutt best word along with bodacious
This music video unironically disturbed me to such an extreme that I have never found anything else that has spooked me to my core like this again. Even rewatching this with your friendly voice coming in every few minutes to ease my anxiety is difficult. Well done.
I agree
The video he showed us at the end unironically disturbed me too
it's really really good. ive personally listened to it so many times at this point that it's just a fun song to me but that one line about eggs in your veins still makes my skin crawl
Same here. I think around the time the ghosts of her dead loved ones started telling her to escape is when it went from silly to creepy to me. Especially since it reminds me of a moment in Creepshow that happens before a particularly sinister scene.
i still can't get through it. i've gotten through it once before, in two sittings, and just barely. something about the delivery, the lyrics, and the melody mesh together in such a way that just flips a switch in my brain and makes me panic.
Spotted
real shit, creators nerding out about their craft is fun as hell to listen to, I might not have noticed the pixelated text originally (because phone screen/watching on low quality), but damn it does hearing you go at length, worrying about text overlapping too much with other text is still cool as heck
I really appreciate that you both did commentary AND didn’t actually touch on any of the lore. Because it’s so much more fun to theorycrwft haha.
Also “not halloween related” *immediately has a gourd in the first bit of the preview*
Could be Thanksgiving related :)
It says on the bottom when the gourd is seen on the phone screen that its a placeholder image
I got the feeling that the Gourd is not an entirely malevolent entity.
That would be an interesting turn of events
yeah, just "helping"
Hella surprised to hear your lyrics were rushed because holy damn "Hide hide, I'll find you soon enough; Your bones will harden and your skin will slough" and "Kiss me; I know you'll like the change, The eggs will fill your veins; Let me explain, A moment's pain gives way to pleasures only dreamed of" hit fucking HARD. They work so damn well to keep the enthusiastic musicality of it while giving the sense of dread/horror you should feel from someone saying this shit.
JerryTerry you’re so cool 🎃💕🔥❤ that Kiss Me (Kill Me) video in particular had a huge impact on me. Just about everything about it was so well executed that I became as fixated on doing something that rad as I do when I watch my favorite shows.
I think if this video wasn’t made, I wouldn’t be where I’m at with a lot of my content, a lot of the Pibby stuff I’ve done take mood and execution inspiration from this. Obviously having to take it to very different place but even the recent Hug Me video is like taking all my obsession from Kiss Me Kill Me, and fusing it with all the new ideas me and my team have been developing for a year.
Anyways, keep making bangers 🔥🔥🔥

Your fakeout absolutely worked on me! I adore this music video so much but my favourite memory of it will always be during my first listen when I suddenly had that creeping realisation that the lyrics were just WRONG and this wasn't going to be a re-cut like The Boys. Genuinely genius
I work in the hospital and about 4 years ago the coroner's freezer at the county broke over the weekend and they ended up wheeling in a mostly decayed corpse for storage and the description is very evocative of what dead human body smells like

"you cant really make something like this in vegas very well"

something that i mentioned during first watch is that pixelated text
i wonder what font it is, but now i see that it's just basic text but in low resolution lol
@@Scripach Yeah, it's straight-up just Arial!
I had never heard the original song before playing this one for the first time, so I didn’t know it was a new take on a preexisting song, but when I showed this to my sister with no warning or context (accident) she thought it was the original until around the Exact part you pointed out. Barely even thought it could be an edit up to that point. She was shocked, I was confused because I didn’t know there was an original song at all, and we both learned something new. She played the original Kiss Me on my phone and it took months before it stopped auto playing while I was driving and every time was a 50/50 chance if it was a love song or a parasitic cold case. I preferred the latter.
Other people have noted how the song fakeout worked on them and it 100% got me too. I remember when I first watched this video I got to "silver moon's darkening" and something in my brain went "isn't it supposed to be 'sparkling'?" I even *paused the video* to google it and check.
The SHEER TERROR I felt when I realized I was right and absolutely anything could be in the rest of the song was immense
I would have loved to see the "terrible" 60k subs special, to be honest. You shouldn't be afraid to release something shitty for laughs
This especially applies to increase workflow. Perfectionism kills that flow and makes people go dark for three years!
I honestly think it sounded quite nice
Juliette’s voice is so good. Like I really did legit think it was her I was like what the fuck
Gonna be honest, my experience with this series was as follows:
-Found "Kiss Me" in recommended
-Found "The Boys Are Back in Town" in sidebar afterwards
-noticed editing cuts
-learned of the existence of the original songs
Same as me!
When this first came out, it fucked with me for like a solid month, but I still kept coming back to it despite how much it creeped me out as well as theorycrafting with some of my friends and co-workers. And its always nice to get a little peek behind the curtain, especially on such a massive undertaking as this is. Still looking forward to whatever will come next!
love to see the director commentary on one of my favorite remixes ever! always been sitting on theories about Kiss Me (Kill Me), and this was really insightful!
also it made me feel a lot more valid about my own creative process :)
Heh heh heh, I was showing "Kiss Me, Kill Me" to my wife sans context and she just thought it was the original song. You know, until she started singing "Kill Me" at which point she started paying attention seeming completely flabbergasted. I absolutely love this song and your videos. I can't wait to see what you come out with next.
Kiss Me, Kill Me is unironically one of my favorite songs at this point, I genuinely love it so much. It's super cool to hear you talk more about it!
Kiss Me, Kill Me genuinely kept me awake, I went to my Job a few days later and would hear the song play at work. I get filled with such dread hearing it.
Everything you make is simply amazing ! Also I really like ᵀʰᵉ ᵍᵒᵘʳᵈ design it's real cute
(TW: spiders)
Oh I've almost poisoned myself due to an infestation before, I feel your pain. I got home from DnD once at like midnight and my kitchen was covered with baby huntsman spiders. I sprayed so much, I had to leave the house for an hour.
For the blowflies dance, I misunderstood it as botflies which is a much more terrifying thing. To my standards anyways. So no it's not too cheesy.
You really made a fool out of me. I legit lived this entire time unware this was was original vocals. I thought you were really good at chopping here. So much fun watching through this!
I always heard "step it back" than "step aside", as you really said it.
And I would absolutely be into this project, because this, as an ARG, has huge potential. Oh, and I really like your works too :3
Kiss me (kill me) is the most unnerving piece of art i have had the displeasure of experiencing. It one of those thing that will forever be in my head rent free and show up in worst time possible. That's good horror right there!
Honestly that remixed slapped. I love stupid mash-ups like that. Also I'm looking forward to the new vid! I discovered your stuff only a little while ago and it's been fun.
I definitely appreciate the detail to the text positioning, and especially the TIMING, the way it cascades in gives me chills every time. It's got a real manic energy that fits the almost screaming tone of the singing. It really is the little details that make that video so effective. The density of detail really serves the tone.
I didn't get the twist that it wasn't a remix because I never heard the original song before. That is of course until six months after watching your take and hearing it playing almost inaudibly over a blasted out gas station speaker and knowing its *wrong* in some way but unable to hear the lyrics clearly enough to pinpoint how. Quite an immersive experience actually. The creeping realization I knew the song and trying to place it really added this liminal feeling of horror.
You heard her singing about "boiling tendrils" and still didn't think that it was _maybe_ more than just sentence mixing? Lol
I’ll just say it now: if the Gourd gets any more lore he should be named “Gourdon”
All of this was put together so well. I lack the verbal capacity to put into words how much I enjoy your projects. I share "Kiss me Kill me" with everyone I feel could appreciate it, it's had a permanent home on my creative playlist for a while now and could never be replaced. I look forward to more from you in the future and I wish you the best in all your endeavors.
One thing I love about kiss me kill me is the aliasing on the text. I know it's such a minor thing to change but it makes such a big difference.
It's awesome seeing the process behind some of this, and that some things were just thrown together last second lmao. Makes me appreciate the video a whole lot more
You really got me with the being British jumpscare
Good to hear from you again my guy. Even being lower key I really enjoyed this video.
cannot wait for a continuation of this universe.
This series of videos is one of my biggest inspirations and something I really cherish and hope to see more of every year. It's really fascinating to take a look at your process, your work always amazes me. Happy Halloween!
“Highest effort I’ve put into a video so far”
*shows clip of a toilet*
That’s how you _know_ it’s gonna be a good one!
I love how the music kinda starts from the moment the computer is turned on. Not only does it make it so it's VERY difficult to like, start the song somewhere other than the beginning of it (the many attempts to isolate the song being a good example), but it also kinda shows how from the moment this person went looking for whoever died, they were dead. The song had already begun. The gourd was always gonna let them in and lead them to the infected files. They were always gonna get infected by whatever this Gourd creature is. I'm probably reading into this, but just something I really like.
I'm so glad to know you wanna keep creating. Even with your "it's so bad" content there's a lot of expertise and care that goes into it, and it feels obvious to me. I actually still listen to BEBEBEBE on occasion, for example. It's really simple, but simple things are still good!
I hope you don't keep trying to raise the bar on yourself so much that you can't reach it an become discouraged, either - the amount of work that went into Kiss Me (Kill Me) already feels like so much, to be honest!
Much like a lot of the original grump remixers I thought you stopped caring, but I'm glad you still are doing stuff, you liltommyj and atpunk have a lot of talent
It's weird, I can actually think of songs more morbid than Kill Me, but the way that it is all put together makes for a really distinct, disturbing vibe. I'm blown away. Seeing this again with the director making commentary, it makes me feel a little better about listening to it, however I doubt I'll be going back anytime soon, given how scary it is. However, hearing the director give his inspiration for the song, it makes it kind of funny now
God, I wish that song would be even longer. It's so good, the lyrics , but mainly signer voice- just beyond perfect.
You should definitely keep this creepy parody series going, I enjoy it so much!!
In all honesty I ended up thinking it was a completely original song (even though I came in expecting another remix) because I'm not terribly far from musically illiterate and so bad at searching the internet I couldn't find what it was based off of until part way into *this* video. Wish it wasn't true, but here we are. lmao
In the end though, I loved it; it's on almost exactly my wavelength for compelling horror stuff, and the song is just fun to listen to, especially the progression into the lyrics getting more dissonant with the overall vibe, it's great.
Also always fun to hear stuff about the creative process. 🙂
jerry, i mean this when i say, kiss me/kill me might be the scariest fucking thing i've ever watched. i've seen annihilation, i've seen midsommar, i've seen hereditary, i've seen all the shit people say is spooky, but this video...god, i still can't get through it. every time i hear that melody, my stomach drops. the lyrics and visuals are so utterly terrifying to me, moreso than anything i've seen, and i don't know why. trying to watch it all the way through was so anxiety-inducing that i just had to stop. i don't understand what made it affect me like this, but holy shit.
so glad i saw this just before i fell asleep!! as one of the people hoping for an upload on halloween i am NOT disappointed!! learning more about the background and creation for kiss me kill me was SO interesting and entertaining, and im super excited to watch whatever you release next!! love your content so much man, happy halloween!
The little polygonal bits at the end looked cute, can't wait to see what other happy, heartwarming things you have in stgore for us! ;D
Hearing a commentary about this absolute masterpiece (To me at least, lol) is the best thing that could've happened this Halloween. So glad to be hearing your own thoughts on your creation. I love it so much, I listened to the original video on loop for days when I finally saw it earlier this year.
This was actually the first time I ever heard this song, so the plot twist didn’t get me.
Here.
Months or maybe even a year or two after watching this, I heard the original and my heart dropped before realizing the song in this video was edited. In hindsight, they aren’t gonna put this version of the song of the radio, of course, but it was a cool awakening to what this really was, and I love this video! Keep up the great work ❤🎉

Kiss Me by Sixpence is what I consider one of the top 5 greatest songs written for a film. Kiss From a Rose is number 1 imo funnily enough. Anyway this came up with just the music on YT music for me and I let it play because it was so trippy, then the fun remix of one of my favorite songs started! Then it got DARK while staying just as beautiful and catchy. I will do everything in my power to spread your unabashed brilliance with this video I cannot express how genuinely magnificent of a work it is. Also intend to edit it down so I have a "song only" version for myself. Would upload with permission but good lord man your work is INCREDIBLE, thank you for posting it publicly it is EXCEPTIONAL.

good lord, the fact you did the text for the part starting at 12:24 individually like that is actually insane. that part of the song and video is probably my favorite, so it's fun hearing all the work you put into it as well as you having fun with the filters. the throbbing flesh of the screen was such a good and creepy detail. i had some friends show me this video over a discord call and it was such a good time. cheers dude!
