What a genius guitar maestro°!¿ ♡♧◇♤ on that jazzmaster!😊 i love this singer songwriter since In The Mouth A Desert 1992 in Manchester academy uk ... sonic youth headlined and don't get me wrong... i ❤ SY but Pavement blew me away... Gary young blew me away PLANT MAN!😢 what a Warnicks drinker!
I miss the Jicks. I loved how every album surprised the ears. 1st saw em in King Tuts Glasgow fer the "face the truth" tour. Mindblowing brilliance. On a sidenote...the support that night was "clor" who also blew me away. Bought th cd n loved it but never heard of them again unfortunately
I love their psychedelic period stuff. Pig Lib and Real Emotional Trash and the live stuff from that era. Also those were the only tours I didn't see them live.
Steve's an excellent guitarist
This guy ... just wow. There’s an art to making it look effortless.
The songs from this record are a pleasure to have stuck in my head.
The whole record has exactly the right amount of inventive dirty guitar work - the kind of record you put on and plug in your guitar with.
This is the best era of anything Malkmus has ever done. Don't at me.
okay good at you
Lol this is great
not gonna
Saw this lineup in Glasgow fer this tour. Absolutely top notch. Spent the gig admirin Janets tubthumping. Immense groove while totally leathering the kit.
Not just on my shortlist of greatest rock drummers, Janet Weiss is one of the best drummers I've heard in any genre, and I've heard some of the greatest jazz and funk masters live.
fuck yeah janet rules, i wish there were more live videos from when she was in the jicks
Eddie Strumfels Definitely! Have you seen the Fuji Rock Festival live from '08? Mind blowing.
That's the truth!! I used to work at Amoeba. Everytime she came in I'd lose my shit approach her say hello then ask for drum advice. She's incredibly humble for a drum god!
Nervous Breakdowns
Great to hear, I used to get so hyped meeting my idols at Amoeba S.F.
If you don't know, Janet was in a pretty bad car crash a couple of months ago and is recovering but it will be a while before she plays again.
And Janet gets a lot of recognition but Joanna is equally a machine.
This man is a fucking genius. Amazing performance. (This lineup of the Jicks also just might be my favorite. Malkmus was writing some really exciting material at the time, too.)
I saw an interesting interview where he mentioned Janet"s "ambition" left him exhausted, which I interpreted as meaning she envisioned the Jicks as something of a supergroup, playing complex and intense material (like this) and he ultimately has opted for a comparatively laid back approach. I like most of it but this is my favorite Jicks.
@@stevenhyden4166 My fave lineup for sure.
I wish to time travel and be at this show. Right now.
Watch this without smiling and I'll show you my arse on the town hall steps
Dragonfly Pie / Real Emotional Trash are masterpieces to me! Wonderful show.... wonderful band... wonderful tunes... thank you so much, Stephen!!!
How did u miss hopscoth willie off that list! And the entirety of Pig Lib.... i'll throw in jo jo's jacket and Pencil Rot tooo... you may as well mention every malkmus/jicks track if we're writing lists!
I was at this show! It was amazing - especially "Real Emotional Trash." Got to meet the band and have them sign my CD of the album after.
Crowd just sitting there mesmerized.
MALKMUS IS A GOD OF SONGDUSTRY
Stephens malkamus é demais grande guitarrista virtuoso som essencial pra quem curte o bom e velho rock and roll
I'm no real fan of the Indie Rock genre, but there are exceptions for me, and The Jicks are definitely one such group. Stephen, Joanna, and Mike are great players and together make a stellar band, as many of their live performances show. They seem to be always in it for the music first, without much ego, Indie 'attitude' or acrimony.
that drummer!
awesome thanks! I was at this show! Then went and saw the New York Dolls at the Fillmore...what a night!
This is HEROIC
Janet Weiss Was a triple threat that Really complimenter Sam's mid solo career i.m.o
Experience/looks,chops, vocals
Far out and solid
Wish I could get just an audio of this! Great show & tour.
They sound both classic yet fresh simultaneously!
He is human. But still my gawd
how has this not been viewed many many more times?
This is definitely my favorite album of theirs. Mirror Traffic is pretty good too. Just great sh#t to jam to.
Looking forward to the Stephen Malkmus Traditional Techniques shows this Spring 2021. Let's hope we can see live music by then.
Thanks to Covid, I've missed 2 shows. Will they ever happen?
You always know a band is legit, when they sound the same live as they do on a cd.
i dont think so
Thank you so much for the upload!!!
thanx! its amazing!
I miss these days. SF was still ....SF.
Gracias por compartir.
Die Band ist sagenhaft!!!
yeah, thanks, this is amazing!
Can't wait to see them in Dallas this month. This is a one of my favorite videos.
Sounds great. Great camerawork, too!
LOVE!
Fantastic show! I don't understand twins either, too much headroom for my teeny tiny gig requirements.
what a great post to wake up to////////////////love all things malkmus!
back needing this to fix my day
increible
Beautiful every time 🎉
Superb - guitar heaven!
Most likely SIR gave them the amp closest to what was requested. Typical of standard backline gear.
From when I first saw Slanted and Enchanted (i'm thinking '91) with Gary (plant man) Young as the drummeister - he gave me some carrots before the show and said "TO SEE IN DARK! " -it was with "Sonic Fucking Youth" headlining on the Dirty Tour in Manchester Academy... my friends were into Oasis..(fuck nooooo boyyeeeee)..I was captivated by stephen's amazing slacker style... a powerhouse of indie schhhhwing! It all became clear when Silence kit and Cut your hair came along! hahaha... I remember my GF got dragged out when Summer Babe started up, by the ST JOHN's Ambulance service! it was that wild, and sonic youth hadn't started! luckily she recovered and got to see Drunken Butterfly all freshened up and now prepared for the mosh!
Don't know how many times i've seen this. SM is the "puto amo"
i'm addicted to this video
Emotional Trash era was so dope & jammy
Yeah prob my fav SM and friends live vid. Geesh. Yep. Fav.
SYNC MASTERFULL
What a triumph!
I love em I do
Malkmus's finger picking is raw beauty!

seems like it was a great show!
They all make it look so easy
my fav jicks
Malkmus live is great to watch. I can never quite work out what he’s doing or where he’s going to go
That's when you just close your eyes, man.
alternate tunings make it even MORE exciting to follow
This is better than Terror Twilight by far. It's not really even a contest.
John Cippolini (from the Quicksilver Messenger Service?) 'Hopefully he's still alive'.
I like them now and all, but they were a lot more kickass around that time
Miss those SF daze.
janet is a magician
I totally get this
it's okay if you don't like Sonic Youth... I cant force you to be cool.
Seems like SM would just as soon be plastered on the couch with me rocking SM instead of having to play it
OMG! OMG! OMG! And yes. J. Weiss = Brilliant. Now spends some time with Kurt Vile and the gang.
grosooo
I'd say that Fender Twin holds up nicely
Oh yeah I'm fkn wasted now 2
Oh yeah he's wasted lol. Luv it
Too bad Malkey's mic needed him to get so close, but that rented Fender Twin sounds heavenly
...butt fuk can he play!!! Willie solo damn bro!
dOwn 2sausilito!!!!
Her name is Janet
Weiss
Errrr... didn't Malkmus use a Twin Reverb for most of his time in Pavement? Pretty much until the Brighten the Corners era, which is when he started using the Orange intro Marshall setup?
Malks, you cray-cray.
I think he was just using what the record store had that day.
If I was half the drummer she is my life would be complete
malkmus > jimmy page
he's a surprisingly good at playing the guitar.
@@FFGG22E why surprisingly? He's brilliant
@@itaimatos4756 epiphany? :-)
La
Can't believe SM called Janet Joanna lol. Bet he was stoned ha. Who knows
Joanne is a special drummer. One of the very best.
You mean Janet, but true that!
this IS the shit
Dat real emotional trash tho
Black Sabbath is favored in this clip, not enough head banging
Yeah, no shit. Who else's opinion was it supposed to be?
Dude, get a lead singer!
Dude, I hope you're sarcastic!
Fuck u bro
