How to Play Guitar like the Strokes

- In this guitar lesson, I analyze and see what I can learn from the strokes' first album (Is This It). And, learn how to play guitar like the strokes. This guitar tutorial is part of the 'in the style of' series, in which I break down things I learn from an artist, how to play guitar like them, and attempt to write some music in the style of that artist. The strokes have been highly requested by you guys to see a lesson made in the style of the strokes. Enjoy the lesson and let me know in the comments section of other artists you want to see covered in this series.

Thanks pal 👍🏼🎸
octave tip helped a bunch and really expanded my variety and made my chords and riffs much more tasteful, keep up with the great work 👍👍
This might actually be the most underrated channel on RUclips. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks Reuben. Gonna get back to making videos on here very soon. Thanks for that pal, much appreciated 👍🏼🎸

Can you do video about Jack White?
That’s a really good idea 👍🏼🎸
If you would do that and explain how to write "single line riffs" in his style I would praise you to the end of my days, I swear.
@@tfbundy6793 haha I’ll see what I can do. It usually takes me a month or so to research and put a plan together to make the best video I can 👍🏼🎸
Like joy división?

Thanks, really appreciated. and thanks for watching too. Glad it helped
Aye man shout out to vox and blue button down shirts
Haha brilliant 👍🏼🎸
dave will you ever do elliott smith or jeff buckley?
Hi mate. Great requests...I absolutely love Jeff Buckley (Grace is one of my favourite albums of all time). I have only listened to a few Elliott Smith songs...any recommendations on where to start?
I've not been making videos for a while. I am making some new stuff coming out very soon, I'm not sure I will be doing these types of breakdowns videos in the foreseeable future though. They're very very time consuming to make, so I am (as always) just trying to find the videos that I love to make and can sustainably keep making when I'm not working.
Thanks again though, it really means a lot that you've liked the videos
@@DaveyHI don't want to spoil it but Elliott comes from a punk background but his voice evolved into something a lot softer
He suffered childhood abuse (to put it lightly) which shows in his lyrics and themes and is further emphasised by his gruesome death (which the autopsy was inconclusive on if it was murder or suicide, I strongly believe it was murder but this is off-topic)
I have picked a few songs that show some variation in his range:
Clementine (Acoustic):

Clementine (Electric):

Abused (Studio):

Miss Misery (Studio):

A Fond Farewell (Acoustic):

Between the Bars (Acoustic):

No Name #2 (Studio):
ruclips.net/video/SjpqlllHUGs/видео.html
Yes, that song genuinely has no name and hence it's called 'No Name #2' (there are five no names in total, four coming from his debut album which had no production cost, Elliott didn't think his songs were good but sent them to a record label regardless).
Here's an animated interview he gave talking about his singing style:

Anyways, have a great day!!

@@DaveyH if it’s owt like your other videos i’m sure it’ll be brilliant mate
@@BillyF752 Thanks, that's very kind. I am trying to streamline things to make the videos a bit quicker to make, but things are always changing in the videos to make them better, so we'll see
hey dave, i didnt see the video come up? 11:10 can you link it?
Sorry mate only just seen your comment. Yeah sure here it is ruclips.net/video/yyKD_vYaC5A/видео.html
simply just brilliant, excellent ideas, excellent execution really enjoyed 👍👍👍👍
Thank you 👍🏼🎸 means a lot
Great videos! Would love to see a Stone Roses video 👍
Thanks you, that’s very kind.
Great choice, I’ve started the analysis and research work on stone roses video, it’s going to be a good one, but it will probably be a few months. Hope you don’t mind the wait 👍🏼🎸
I’ve never played guitar in my life but I wanna play like the strokes or artic monkeys what kinda guitar do I get ?
I always tell students to get something that inspires you to pick it up and play, so go for something that you think looks cool. But, obviously keep it within your price range. I think you can’t go wrong with the squire affinity strat or tele to start with. In the video description I have a link to a page on my website with guitars o recommend to beginners.
Hope that helps 👍🏼🎸
Can’t go wrong with a squire strat
Hi remember me Darren
Hi mate
