I always loved Billy Field right from the time this song first came out. I still have the album that has this song on it. I still play it all these years later.
at 56 listening this takes me right back to my 20's. Now I know what my parents meant when they used to say their 'youth' felt like yesterday to them. And so it is now with me, although the start of the 80's was 43 years ago it really does in my mind feel like 'yesterday'.
Especially as the song went to number one in Australia, according to the Kent Music Report, and yet I don't think I've heard it played on any Australian radio station even once in the last 38 or so years
Kevin Sheldrick oh my gosh you’re so right! I’m going to phone in & request it!! Absolutely stunningly beautiful song. It melted my heart from the very first time I heard it 🥰
This song , and Bad Habits , were both exceptional songs... Last I heard of him , he had an analogue recording studio , somewhere near Sydney... Rock on Billy...
I worked at Billy's studio in Sydney for 6 months and he was a great guy. This is my favourite track of his, its beautiful and he sings/plays it so well. I you're well Billy, thanks for the break ! Rob.
Was the studio anywhere near Parramatta Road? One of my favourite memories of this song was playing it on my car's stereo while driving along Parramatta Road and passing underneath the famous Arnott's Biscuits railway bridge in Strathfield in November 2019.
im married and happy, But sitting here listening to this brought tears to my eyes as i thought of all the girls that didn't like me back as a teenager or even a pre teenager, bravo for this song
Such a great song, easily as good as Elton or Billy Joel. Billy Field....what a great talent! Great seeing the old Countdown film clip...what a blast from the past. especially Gavin Wood's voice over.
@@thedys70 funny, I just read this is Wikipedia " The song "You weren't in love" was a hit in Brazil (...)". I'm from Brazil, maybe that's why I the song is so famous to me. It still plays on the radio around here! 😄

What a classic, have'nt heard this since the early 80's when they always played it on Radio Luxembourg. Brings back some great memories, I once had a pair of glasses like that!
Love his singing, he was lampooned in Australia at the time for not being able to sing. They even said his Dad bought him a recording studio so he could record. Shows what critics really know.
It's comforting for a 40+yo Aussie song to be about exactly the sort of heartbreak that you're feeling. This is one of the worst, most-embarassing, cringe experiences in the universe. I'm not alone. You're not alone. We are loved + it'll be okay ... eventually. Peace+love to all; you matter; you are bigger than anything that could possibly happen to you.
My right ear was sad because of the beautifully sad song, my left ear was sad because it couldn't hear. I had to replay it with my headphones switched around, but my left ear just got sadder.
There was a story about Blind Freddy that he was a boot polisher at Sydney race course way back 1860s 1880s He would listen to conversations between the bookies and then Blind Freddy would place his bets on the horses. Blind Freddy must of been remarkable to talk about him more than hundred years later I read this Story From The Sydney morning herald back 1990s with the only photo of Blind Freddy the story came form woman in her 80s I think the story was passed on from her father. Blind Freddy could see that
This song is timeless. The lyrics remind me of a beautiful man aka Cptn Jack Sparrow and the pain he felt. So palpable in this song. A very talented Australian artist. What a beautiful song.
Thank you to Kirin J Callinan for turning me on to this incredible tune by including a cover on his new album! Such a bittersweet, beautifully heart-wrenching track.

His best song, made to last forever.
One of the greatest songs to ever come out of this country
This and Tenterfield Saddler. Also Where Are You Now by Roxus.
This song should have been huge in the USA. It has BIG HIT written all over it
❤❤❤❤❤
Does the USA know about Blind Freddie?
This guy should have been an international star.
Actually, he was. Not commensurate with his talent, but he was recognised..
Same with his band 🤔🧐

Maybe the most underrated song in Australian Music

I found an old tape on the road when I was a kid in the 80s. It had this song on it. Never forgotten this song. Just a classic.

Exactly, had this song come from somebody other than a little known Australian, it would have been a worldwide smash hit.
