    🌴 So one of my personal things on salt water fly rods is the rod butt , mine was to short your tucking the rod butt against yourself and it’s to close to reel , not that my gut is overly large but I extended my rod butt 3-1/2”” it doesn’t get in the way of my casting and it’s easier to reel and gives ya a bit more leverage , I did this on my 8 wt and will definitely be doing it on my 10-11 wt rod .

    I’ve become suspicious of perfection loops over the last couple years. I think the tag end and loop that stick out the side of the knot at almost 90 degrees is susceptible to abrasion. I lost a steelhead with my leader a couple years ago without much of a pull when she took off through shoreline sedges. Seemed like the perfection loop just got sawed off by the sedges I’ve been using a figure 8 loop. Quick to tie, stays close to the running line, climbers use it.

    Joe. I get the weakest link in the chain thing where backing weight vs tippet strength is concerned. But how the hell are you supposed to keep that thin hatch stuff from getting dicked up when there's no time to really wrap it neatly in between fish? I've beat up 100+ pound tarpon in 15 minutes or less with plain old 30# dacron and 40 or even 60 pound tippet. How do you manage that spectra stuff on the fly?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 года назад

      These aren't nearly as thin as traditional GSP, I remember using some GSP 10+ years ago that was flat as scary. The Hatch is pretty friendly.

      RIO Outbound Short Tropical Intermediate, it's a really great line. It has a 30' Intermediate Head. RIO is out of them right now, but they should be back up on our site in January. Here is a link to the exact line, it's even pre-selected. Sign up for the "Email When Available" feature if you want me to notify you when it is back in! redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-tropical-outbound-short-fly-line?variant=15071085723697

    Those roosters are “pretty smart fish” because they’re habituated to being chummed with live bait. They’re basically pets. Did you get that grande without bait?
