  • Scott Turner and the Silhouette Crew are back down in Cabo San Lucas Mexico fishing the surf for Giant Hawk Fish, Needlefish, Huge Jack Crevalle and the Mighty Roosterfish. Scott shares tactics and shows how to get after these inshore fish without a guide and how to be successful fishing the Baja.There are great moments caught on camera of these predatory fish destroying big bait balls of mullet that are just incredible! Hope you enjoy!!
    Special thanks to Christian Tellez, owner at Offshore Sportfishing Club. A great option to tie into a World Class rooster fish like in the video, is to charter out of Cabo with Chris as he manages some of the very best boats and Captains in the Baja. Great Video man ✅ The Rooster Fish is my White Whale ❗️
    I lost my rooster about 3 feet away from the shore, he got off in the Surf 🙁 It’s been Haunting me ever since.
    He hit me on a Cabo Killer.
    It was probably about a 20 pounder, definitely not as big as yours.
    It didn’t ruin my trip or anything, but it definitely hurt. ( The Tequila helped ❗️❗️ )
    You were killing me when you were saying “ Please - if this is the LAST FISH I ever get let me get this one 😆🤣😆🤣 !!!!! “
    Great Video man, it brought me back ….. You Got’em 🤘🏻🤘🏻❗️❗️BEAUTIFUL ✅

      I don’t think I have ever been so stoked to catch a fish in my life! I lost 3 prior, one spooled me the same day.. And then I catch 2 giants back-to-back! It’s one thing to get one on a charter, but it’s a life goal to get one in the surf. Good luck my friend, it will happen. Just keep at it in Cabo mid-summer.

      There are always some jacks. But the big one’s bail after summer. You might see the odd one in the marina. There’s big snappers year around, but they are always far and few between. October-December you can catch the odd mahi from shore as well. Summer is prime time for the best surf fishing.

    Sick Video! I came across this video as I’m preparing for my trip to Cabo soon! I would like to bring my own similar gear or is there a place to rent gear? Any advice as far as throwing lures? Straight braid? Any specific information? My plan is to use a 9’ heavier rod with a 6000 spinning reel with 50-65 # braid and was planning on throwing possibly the Yo-Zuri hydro minnows??? Definitely liked and subscribed 🤙🏼

      I actually have all of the gear I used in the video description, and most with hyper links to find them. And honestly, a 9’ rod isn’t going to cut it. Better than nothing, but you need to be able cast 100 yards sometimes. I use a 12’ travel rod. And Jansen’s in the Walmart plaza in Cabo has all the best lures and rods to buy. Better than you’ll find anywhere, very Baja surf fishing centric.

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors

      They are starting to catch roosters down there. For live bait, if you can find the big bait balls of mullet. Take down some really big treble hooks to snag your own bait. The only other way we got any bait was from our Mahi charter in one of our other videos. Make sure they don’t feed them to the seals if you go out.. There was bait left over that we used. But there is no place we found to buy any bait... Nothing at Walmart or the sporting goods shops. Good luck!!!

    How do you get the live bait and how do you keep it alive??

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  3 года назад +2

      That is the real trick! I actually brought two poles, one with just a single hook, no weight and another with a giant treble hook on it. A bucket with water in it to keep a couple alive would have been great. But i would snag a mullet and immediately put it on the single hook and cast it back into the baitball. And it was very rare that I didnt get bit if that bait swam around at all.

      July! May thru July is the time of year to fish Cabo for Roosters and big Jacks. The Roosters like the warm water. You won’t catch them in the winter months. We stayed in Solmar/Playa Grande. Perfect hotel to fish right out the back door and walk to the Marina for charters and restaurants.

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  3 года назад

      @@bradfordmarley3124 Something I did was paying for a charter to basically use them for a scouting trip to find the baitfish. We got really lucky as there were baitballs right behind the hotel we stayed at. But it's a toss up as to if the baitballs are on the Pacific side of the arches or if they are down the Sea of Cortex side. We did walk the beach specifically looking for bait before doing any casting. It's very low possibility of catching roosters fishing blind, you really need to locate the mullet.
