There's a theory that Loki was controlled by some other force during and before the events of the Avengers, between when he dropped himself into the void during the first Thor movie and the Avengers. I believe that something might have happened before the Thor movie that caused him to do everything he did, because said theory would not have explained Loki's actions during the Thor movie.
