Lost two childhood friends in separate motorcycle accidents in one summer. Also saw the lifelong pain a patient, a young man who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident, endured at the orthopedic clinic I worked at.
Both are at a fault here. Driver mostly as he should have looked further down the road but man, that bike was really bookin' it - if he hadn't been going that fast, he would have been able to brake well ahead of ever hitting the car.
B.S. Yes, biker was a little over the speed limit, but that was not a factor in this crash. Roads are clean and dry, visibility is excellent, and the only two vehicles in sight are the Harley and the Toyota. Snowflake could have easily seen the motorcycle if he’d been paying attention to driving instead of whatever the hell else he was doing. Speed was not a factor, in attention is the issue. Bottom line, we all have the legal responsibility to ensure the road is safe before proceeding through a stop sign. Snowflake failed to do so. He’s lucky he didn’t get a beating. If he keeps driving like that, he likely will.
The motorcycle covered over 75 feet in 2 seconds and he hit the brakes to decelerate, which means he was going between 82km per hour minimum and closer to 90km/hr entering into a blind intersection. Although the car is at fault legally, the motorcyclist needs to blame himself for speeding. Cheers 🍻
And that my tiny friends is why I like to have 4 wheels on the ground and a 3000 lb cage around me. Sure bikes might be fun to ride, but you can do everything right, and some moron does something stupid like that and you could really get hurt.
In this case the motorcyclist didn't do everything right though ... You don't go that fast through a junction like that with no traffic lights and poor visibility (as far as seeing what's coming from either side).
