Jays fan here. Kikuchi was a bit of an enigma in Toronto. As far as this season goes, I think his numbers look artificially bad due to the fact that the Jays batters were stone cold dead for the majority of this season. Only Vladdy Jr has turned his season around. If the Jays batters had even hit nearer to the League average, Kikuchi likely has 4 or 5 more wins and a more respectable era. In Toronto, the fans were furious with the lineup and bullpen, NOT Kikuchi. I think Houston will score more runs for him, be better defensively for him and in the end I believe you are getting a pretty decent pitcher. Did you pay too much for him? Maybe but time will tell. Good luck to Kikuchi. Toronto will miss him.

Panicked desperation. This was a move of panic and desperation. The Astros FO saw Seattle getting big moves done, and Brown/Crane simply panicked. Kuch is a good 4th/5th starter. His record would be better if the Jays could score runs earlier in the year. He also pitched better in Toronto than Seattle.
This is what happens when you do nothing to upgrade the team in the off season. Decisions get made in desperation and we end up paying a lot for that. You can't even spin this say we can take a back end starter and make him better. No one pays this much for a reclamation project. Even if he does pitch great, there is no way we resign him. This is just a bad deal all the way around. And we still haven't even addressed the bullpen. Any bullpen with Shawn Dubin as a regular is going to fail.

I am not as mad as everyone else, this is how the Astros operate, they develop a surplus of outfielders for this exact reason, they identify their untouchables like Tucker, Correa, Springer etc. And the rest are used for trade, and they got a high strike out pitcher which is what you need in playoffs. Not freaking out

I think too many fans assume either the Astros had the assets enough teams coveted to get a stud or that other teams like giving away talent for lesser assets for some reason. This was a sellers market and SP is always expensive at the trade deadline. I mean I’d like a Bentley to drive too but I just don’t have the assets to get it
My question is why did it take this trade to finally bring up Pedro Leon while he’s been raking in AAA? Both Cabbage and Loperfido really haven’t been killing it on the major league stage. It’s just a tough decision to make this trade and to be honest, the bad moves we made in the ‘22 offseason with no GM and the overall weak farm system contributed to this trade. Hopefully things work out. Go Astros!
It's shocking to see three legit prospects go like this, especially after getting to see Loperfido play with the team. He seemed to be averaging 1 amazing catch per game. Sad to see him go. It's obviously a win-now play. We're deep in the outfield; Yordan, Dubon, Chaz, Meyers, Cabbage, and I'm guessing the Front Office is confident that Tucker will be healthy soon enough. It's a terribly hard decision. We should support Yusei Kikuchi and hope he will be a good piece in this championship run. P.S. Maybe we could get a trade back though 😭😥🥹 Loperfido is a star
We REALLY all need to get past this, waiting for Verlander to come back.. He’s a legend and did a great job for the club at first. Now he’s past his time, broken up, and milking the club for cash we could be using to build. It’s the same with McCullers. We hang on to broken players for way too long. Now, not only do we keep has beens, but we’re buying never was. On top of this, we bought Hader, which was another sucker buy for us! If I’m another club, I wait in the queue with my offloads to trade with the Astros and hope I can deal directly with Dana Brown! He’s a world class idiot!

Jays fan here Kikuchi isn't a "nothing pitcher." Don't be fooled by the 4.75 ERA. A lot of that is a bad bullpen who've allowed a ton of inherited runners to score. Most of his struggles have been in the last month, with his name being involved in trade rumors. Also, the Jays have been one of the worst hitting teams in baseball this season. In countless games this year, he got no run support. That's why he's only 4-9. He's got a lot of swing and miss. He had a good season in 2023 and he was very good the first 2.5 months this sesson. Trust me, the Astros are better with him.

We REALLY all need to get past this, waiting for Verlander to come back.. He’s a legend and did a great job for the club at first. Now he’s past his time, broken up, and milking the club for cash we could be using to build. It’s the same with McCullers. We hang on to broken players for way too long. Now, not only do we keep has beens, but we’re buying never was. On top of this, we bought Hader, which was another sucker buy for us! If I’m another club, I wait in the queue with my offloads to trade with the Astros and hope I can deal directly with Dana Brown! He’s a world class idiot!

Kikuchi isn't a "nothing pitcher." Don't be fooled by the 4.75 ERA. A lot of that is a bad bullpen who've allowed a ton of inherited runners to score. Most of his struggles have been in the last month, with his name being involved in trade rumors. Also, the Jays have been one of the worst hitting teams in baseball this season. In countless games this year, he got no run support. That's why he's only 4-9. He's got a lot of swing and miss. He had a good season in 2023 and he was very good the first 2.5 months this sesson. Trust me, the Astros are better with him.

Bloss and Loperfido are irrelevant lol the Astros aren’t worried about losing these guys. They don’t need them at all for their 3rd WS run like they need Kikuchi. Bloss has done absolutely nothing at the MLB level and it’s not like he’s some elite top 100 prospect because he’s not and Loperfido is already 25 so he’s old for a prospect and he can’t hit at all. The Astros kept their prospects with big time potential like Luis Baez, Brice Matthews, and Jacob Melton and already have Whitcomb and Dezenzo up to replace Wagner and Loperfido.. the Astros are smarter than you. Trust me lol those guys were not apart of the future. When the window is done in a few years we can trade guys on our current team like Yordan and Tucker for elite prospects so no need to worry about the farm system right now
John and Lance, If Dana Brown puts his foot down and says we don't make this deal, would Dana be dealt the same fate James Click was? With Bagwell around I think it is likely. Who is to say it won't happen anyway?

Horrible trade! People are forgetting that this situation was really set up before the season started. More like 2 seasons ago. They waited, & got horribly fleeced. The front office (which includes Bagwell nowadays for some reason) just sucks! They set the Astros back 3 - 4 years, if we're lucky. If they keep making foolish decisions like they have been since last season, they easily could set the Astros back a decade. It's just pathetic what the front office & mostly Bagwell, Jackson, & Crane have done to this team. Hey, season ticket holders, dump them yesterday! The stock is dropping like a rock. Oh, & the extremely corrupt MLB is loving it. The MLB is an absolute joke. Hitters can't hit. Fielders can't field. Runners make constant mistakes. Fundamentals left the field years ago. This trade proves Dana Brown is not a real GM. He needs to go back to scouting. We need to go get Kim Ng who did a great job before she left the Marlins. Click would have never made this horrible trade. Brown clearly was not a tough negotiator. We definitely got fleeced in the worst way. For all that we gave up, we didn't get any cash considerations for Kikuchi.
