Hello. I purchased this Kobalt air compressor about a week ago. Glad you like it. It worked impressively helping me blow out my sprinkler system, but that was after I first had an issue. I'm wondering if you have any comments about the following issue. First, of course I let the tank fill and after a few minutes it was filled. Then I turned on my sprinkler Zone 1 and the compressor blew out the remnant water just fine. However, the compressor would not turn on again to refill the tank after it dropped to 50 psi or whatever it was. I kept turning it off and on to no avail. Yes, the ballcock at the bottom was closed. So I then opened the ballcock and let the remaining air out. After I did that, it turned on again to refill the tank. I then went to Zones 2 and 3 and repeated all three zones again with no problem whatsoever. Now, is that something that can be explained or do you think the compressor is defective? Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can throw my way.

Hey Mike, I have not painted with this compressor yet. I did some minor painting with my old 10 gallon crsftsman. I could spray steady for 5-7 minutes before cut in, then a few more after that. Hey Bryan, With the initial trigger pull you lose about 10 psi then quickly regains. I can usually run about 5 minutes til the compressor kicks in to compensate pressure loss. I will then deplete sufficient psi in another 5 minutes. This very rarely happens as I almost never run the impact for more than a couple minutes at a time. The large capacity tank keeps most of my projects running without waiting for refill. Been a great compressor for me. By far the best I've had. Are you getting one? Thanks for dropping by & have a great day :) @RCInsiders
@@RCInsiders Some of the reviews I've watched the folks have lost around 40psi so they installed another (better) regulator. Sounds like Kobalt may have fixed that issue. Thanks for the info.
I run out of pressure very quickly when using my Kobalt air chisel with this air compressor. I've played with the tool regulator and still cant get lasting pressure. It runs out of pressure in 10-15 seconds as I'm chiseling out a plaster mold. The darn compressor run continuously to try to keep up with me. I don't know why mine and your results are different.
Hi, Not sure. My thoughts are that the tool has a big air leak, or possibly oversized? What size chisel are you using? Do you have the 150 psi, 26 gallon tank like in the video? Also, make sure the drain valve is closed all the way & check all fittings and hoses for leaks. I can run the chisel for a long time. I did the whole step and never ran out of air. The only time I really run out of air is when running a large impact for extended periods of time. Sorry to hear you're having issues. Let me know if I can help. Thanks for dropping by & have a great day. @RCInsiders
@@RCInsiders thanks for giving it some thought. I figured it out. I needed a long chisel so I bought the cheapest one I could find off Amazon. If you're running your air tools over a hundred PSI you need to turn them down I can't believe you haven't burned them up yet 150 PSI is way too much for any air tool even an impacted by . Professional shops don't even run them. You'll burn the seals and hopefully you're using air impact lubricant

Hi, That is a harbor freight model. The one I wanted wasn't in stock at the time. This is the one I wanted - amzn.to/3FH8STH They are similar & about the same cost. The amazon one comes with brass fittings * 50' of air hose. I wish mine would automatically kick back on it goes down so far and and trys but won't kick back on I have to drain it and start it back fresh and let it fill back up so I don't use it
Hey Chopped, This is an odd issue I have not heard of. How old is the unit? How long after purchase did this start happening? The air compressor has a great warranty. I haven't had any issues so far & we use it pretty heavily. Can you just turn it off & back on instead of starting over? If I had to guess I would think a pressure switch & should be a cheap easy fix. Thanks for dropping by & have a great day :) #RCInsiders
@@choppedandscrewedcustoms These compressors use a capacitor to KICK it on when it's under pressure. You may have a bad capacitor. The other very common issue is if you have a long cord connected to the compressor's plug. Keep it close to an outlet and avoid using a cheap extension cord if one is required.
@@choppedandscrewedcustoms The capacitor (some compressors have two) is located under the plastic cover where the electronics are. Something else you can try is to change the oil and break it in again. Make sure that you don't overfill the crankcase. The oil level should be halfway on the sight glass when the compressor is off and sitting on a level floor. Let it run for 30 minutes with no load and the drain valve wide open. Then shut it off, change the oil again and wait a few hours or overnight to allow full cool down. Then turn it on and use it enough to allow the compressor to kick and see if that solves your situation. Use straight 30W compressor oil that you can purchase at your local auto parts store or home center.

@@MrRedex88 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can I just run power from my house to it to use outside
You can if you want, but the compressor should be inside some kind of building when not in use to protect it from the outside elements.
If you run it outside where you need an extension cord. use a heave gage outdoor cord.
@RCInsiders
Have you tried the performance of an hvlp spray gun? My application is car restoration and looking to see what to anticipate for spraying car panels.
Hey Mike,
I have not painted with this compressor yet.
I did some minor painting with my old 10 gallon crsftsman. I could spray steady for 5-7 minutes before cut in, then a few more after that.
This tank is more the than double the size & more than double CFM @90.
I'm guessing this compressor will be great for an hvlp gun.
Do you have a compressor now?
Thanks for dropping by & have an awesome weekend!!

@@RCInsiders I have a Wen 8 gallon, handed down. They shipped it to my bro, broken, so he called service and they told him to keep it, they sent another. It was only a bent exhaust cover, he gave it to me, and I fixed it. Anyway, can't beat free, but it won't last too long without kicking on and it's adequately loud. I was eyeing the Flexzilla 20 gallon due to quiteness (less than 50dba) and CFMs, but I also would like closer to 30 gallon. That Flexzilla is pricey, but the EMAX Hulk at Northern is basically the same but for noticeably less. Well, thanks for the reply. Yours seems a good choice, and I'm looking at some low CFM guns at Eastwood which might make all this work. My biggest job will be the undercarriage. I'll get a pro shop to put on the base and clear. Good luck with your projects.

Hey Mike, HVLP is what I use to spray my guitar builds and I love this compressor. It's so much better than my old noisy 20 gallon holds air slightly longer and best part it's way quieter. I have a closet I built for my noisy one now I can barely hear this one when it turns on and I can hear my shop radio too.
Cool, like new toy.👍👍👍👍
Thanks Pareen!

@@SuperProhibited Awesome! I love guitars!
It really is amazing how quiet this compressor is!!
How much dd the tool pressure drop from the 100psi when the big impact was triggered?
Hey Bryan,
With the initial trigger pull you lose about 10 psi then quickly regains.
Thanks for dropping by & have a great day :)
@RCInsiders
@@RCInsiders Some of the reviews I've watched the folks have lost around 40psi so they installed another (better) regulator. Sounds like Kobalt may have fixed that issue. Thanks for the info.
👍👍
I run out of pressure very quickly when using my Kobalt air chisel with this air compressor. I've played with the tool regulator and still cant get lasting pressure. It runs out of pressure in 10-15 seconds as I'm chiseling out a plaster mold. The darn compressor run continuously to try to keep up with me. I don't know why mine and your results are different.
Hi,
Not sure.
@RCInsiders
@@RCInsiders thanks for giving it some thought. I figured it out. I needed a long chisel so I bought the cheapest one I could find off Amazon. The neck of the Amazon chisel isn’t rounded as well as the short Kobalt Chisel I bought from Lowe’s. So I assume that I’m losing air around the neck of the Amazon chisel.

@@RCInsiders yes I have the best harbor freight 6 gallon pancake fortress. I regret it everytime I turn it on. It's so loud and it started leaking 4 months after I bought it. I took it apart found the leak and sealed it up with liquid steel. That worked for about 3 more months and now it's back to leaking again. I hate this thing. Been researching new ones with bigger tank. I'm leaning towards the kobalt. I'm just nervous about getting another leaking one again after the warranty runs out. But thankfully kobalt has 3 years so that is making me feel better about it.
@@Duckmanloren I hear ya buddy. My last one was so loud it rattled the windows & made everything generally miserable while in use...Even for the neighbors! This one I barely even notice when its running. And with the big tank it runs less than a 1/4 of the time as old one.Do you run a shop or just for general use?

Hey quick question ? When your done using it do you turn it off and drain all the air ? Mine won’t kick back on if I leave air in the tank when I flip the switch again. It actually kills the breaker if I donthat

@RCInsiders
If you're running your air tools over a hundred PSI you need to turn them down I can't believe you haven't burned them up yet 150 PSI is way too much for any air tool even an impacted by
. Professional shops don't even run them. You'll burn the seals and hopefully you're using air impact lubricant
Great tips Jason 💯
I usually run 100 & sometimes 120 on the impact.
I try to keep them lubricated, but admittedly not enough 😁😂

Can you share which hose reel you purchased and how you mounted it?
Hi,
That is a harbor freight model. The one I wanted wasn't in stock at the time.
This is the one I wanted - amzn.to/3FH8STH
They are similar & about the same cost. The amazon one comes with brass fittings * 50' of air hose.
I couldn't hit studs exactly where I wanted the reel, so I screwed plywood across the studs & another piece of plywood screwed to that for a reel mounting plate.
Has held up well for years.

Typically what size hose is used for normal diy projects 1/2 or 3/8?
I wish mine would automatically kick back on it goes down so far and and trys but won't kick back on I have to drain it and start it back fresh and let it fill back up so I don't use it
Hey Chopped,
This is an odd issue I have not heard of.
Thanks for dropping by & have a great day :)
#RCInsiders
@@RCInsiders it's just past the 3 yr warranty I may see how much a new pressure switch and see if it cures it
@@choppedandscrewedcustoms These compressors use a capacitor to KICK it on when it's under pressure. You may have a bad capacitor. The other very common issue is if you have a long cord connected to the compressor's plug. Keep it close to an outlet and avoid using a cheap extension cord if one is required.
@99 Shadows mine does this plugged directly into the wall outlet where is the compacitor
