Got one of these recently and I absolutely love it. One of my favorite hats. Great dimensions and quality. I like how the crown doesn't taper and is more vertical and square. Highly reccomemended.
I think the brim turned down in the front and the back is called the safari style by some hatters. The thickness and stiffness of the Akubra felt is part of why I got an Akubra Stylemaster fedora. I live in a very damp part of Canada that can be rough on fedoras but the Akubra has no problem with the relatively light if never ceasing rain here. The prices are Very good and the quality is first rate.
Wow thanks! I was searching for ages for a review! But I bought one two days before you uploaded this... Now Im even more excited to get it in the mail!
I just used a tea kettle to shape my federation IV. People don’t realize what makes an authentic fedora more expensive than your average mass-produced hat. The rabbit felt is leagues better than wool felt.
John O'Donohue you’re absolutely right. Check out my other video (linked in this one) where I show how I did mine. Also wool fedoras need a plastic strip sowed into the brim to make it hold its shape.... and you can always tell because it creates a bump all away around the brim which the authentic Indy hat obviously doesn’t have.
How true to size is the hat? I'm at 57.3 cm and was going to go with the 57 cm sized hat. I was just curious about your measurement and recommendation when it came that! Thank you and awesome video!
Interesting question Jacob. The original one that Ford used was Size: 7 ¼ (size 58 European) my measurements on my hat are 60. And to be honest that may have been a mistake in terms of look and fit. Even though that was the size the lady in the store expertly said was the size for my head, I suspect Harrison's hat was 1/2 a size too small for him as you can see (especially in scenes where that hat is well worn) that it's starting to lose it's shape at the ribbon end because it's forced out over his head. I would think 57 is spot on for you. If you think about it, it had to be a tight fit for Ford so it wouldn't blow off.....at the drop of a hat.....lol
Stefanos Valos yeah mate. They do one in “moonstone” (like the one Indian Jones wears when flying places) and I think they do a tan one as well. But yeah if you ask for the one “like the Indiana Jones” hat, they’ll know what you mean. So yes, ask for dark brown
Hi there. I got the federation IV. The only difference is the deluxe is made with fur from a rabbits undercarriage/breast and is maybe 5 to 10% softer. It also has a slightly deeper sweat band than the Fed IV. The internal lining is also white saturn (Like Indys hat). These three details are very minor but if money is no object ten sure why not. To wear them both (Fed IV and Fed IV Deluxe) they both look exactly the same.... no one can tell the difference. It's a great hat and while being a little stiff at first (like I said in the review) over time jus wearing it and handling it it does soften up. And to make it stiff again just steam it. Fantastic, fantastic hat.
Merwan Thanks, I appreciate the response and thanks for the video. You can probably relate, but I am 29 years old and have been wanting a Raiders Fedora for along time. Your video helped me decide and I'm looking forward to it arriving. The satin lining is nice only because it's like the indy hat, but I agree the standard will suffice. I may try to shape the hat myself, but I'll probably have to find a store nearby to have it shaped. Cheers
Challenge accepted. Where abouts in the world are you? I'm lucky that I was able to drive up to the Hattery as I live in Sydney, Australia. Hi Martina. I have to say I'm confused by your comment. Sorry feel free to elaborate if you like. I've been accused sounding like a woman before... mainly from my wife lol.

Precisely the kind of review I had been looking for. Thanks so much!
Yeah I was really surprised someone hadn't done a review (More than, "Hey look at this hat, cool huh?") Glad you liked it, hope it was helpful

I recently got an Adventurer from Akubra. I did have the brim trimmed by about 3/4 inch, it looks exactly like yours.
Mine is still going strong 5 years later. It’s even more authentic looking… slightly softened

Lol nice! I like the "beat the crap out of it" method. I'll have to try that lol thanks for the advice
Soooo. How does it look?
Good video, right to the point thanks, carry on!
UK - I have one, they shape these now for a few dollars. The Hattery are the BEST
Yeah I was very impressed when I went in there

We’re you able to wear it in the heat
Yeah I wore it all day the other day in sweltering heat…. It’s a very practical summer hat 😉
@@MerwanStevens1 THANK YOU SIR! I will

Also check out my other video on this hat.... I do a better job with the history of the hat, it's varying looks etc
Awesome! I went ahead with my order and I'll let you know how it goes. Great videos by the way, and nice pun lol thanks again!

Did you order the federation IV or Federation IV Deluxe? I just ordered the Federation IV and did not realize there was a deluxe option.

Hmmmm. Maybe I need to do a shaping video?
Let me know if you do. I haven't found any good videos on shaping it. I also have 20 days to wait for shipping.

OMGod, duplicating from movies. you sound more like a woman. for the spirit of it i did hit the like button.
Hi Martina. I have to say I'm confused by your comment. Sorry feel free to elaborate if you like. I've been accused sounding like a woman before... mainly from my wife lol.
dearie, plz don't take it too serious because it's actually not meant that way. never anything wrong with liking nice things!
Oh no don't worry I wasn't offended. I just didn't understand. Thanks anyway.
