- This is a recording I made on Sunday, July 29, 2012. I drove 3 hrs to see Tony Sly for the final time, he died two days later. I didn't realize it would be the final time, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten so drunk and I would have paid more attention to how sloppily I was recording, but hey, if you're going to see TSly and the Caper you gotta have a few drinks!
He even dedicated International You Day to my wife and I for our anniversary (and also his friend who had just died)
RIP Tony Sly, you had a profound impact on my youth and even still, my adulthood.
Hopefully your friends and family can find comfort during this time.
I'll see you on the Outside!
Recorded at The High Dive (formerly Double Down Live) Gainesville, FL
I felt such a personal loss after his death, and still do. Never met him and sadly, never saw him live but he really spilled his guts when he wrote. NFTS....
Seriously dude. You may have been drunk and may have been sloppy. That's how we all would have been anyway. Thanks mate, I've been watching your footage for 4 years and I'm so stoked that you drove 3 hours, got drunk and got sloppy. Tony Sly man...Tony Sly.
Thank you soo much for uploading this. Its been a year but it still feels unreal. Glad we can still enjoy the awesome music he made and to see videos like this is so awesome.
Thanks, man. Tony's funeral was at this huge church in Downtown San Jose. It was standing room only. Testament to all the lives he touched. And Steve's memorial show was sold out. We raised a bunch for his family and everyone there had a great time remembering Steve and Tony. And thanks for uploading this vid. Hard to watch, but great to have it up for everyone to remember.
Sorry you had to experience such a double loss, my friend. I've only met Tony 2-3 times, and it's hard in those moments to express how much someone disconnected to you can help you through the shitty times. He was something else, and the world's been at such a loss since his passing. I find solace that he taught me to appreciate the short existence that I, myself share, and I hope I can touch someones spirit, the way he has to me. Much Love brother.
Thank you FortKnite for being lucky enough to see this show, and post this video. Tony was taken from us too early. A great songwriter, I think he spoke to many people with his beautiful music. International you day is my all time favorite. After Tony passed away and his friends put together "the songs of tony sly a tribute" I was blown away by Joey Cape and his version of this song, so beautiful and full of emotion, you could tell he lost his best friend. RIP Tony we will always long for one more song!
Hey dude I'm sorry for your loss, even tho I've only met Tony a few times, his music has made a direct impact on my life. I couldn't imagine how hard of a loss it musta been for you and everyone who knew him. I know it was hard on me.
I Miss Him because My Life is incompletet My days are absolutly gray without you here!!!
life gets better my friend.
I am finally able to watch this video all the way through. I knew Tony. And I was very good friends with the guy who took his own life, Steve Larkin. I was looking forward to seeing Tony at the memorial show as my band was also playing. Still missing both of them very, very much. July '12 was a shitty month for San Jose.
Can't believe it's been a year, such a big loss. RIP
thank you for that moment
It's too late to talk to you
And it's too soon to say good-bye
Listen where ever you may be
You still live inside my mind
Something tells me that you are free again
In a place that feels like home
It's never easy to understand
Why memories hold our hand
But people let go
(1)Same feeling as MVarvais...I saw them in Montreal 2 weeks before his death. I'm glad in a way to have seeing him play one last time. Maybe we'll never know what really happened(even if they say that he passed in his sleep) and maybe it doesn't really matter(the cause) but more I watch this show and remember the one in Montreal..more I think that there was something ''wrong'' with him...a lot of things that he says are really, really dark throughout this show...:(
What kind of things he say?
His song Will be Miss 👏
How creepy he's talking about a funeral and memorial just days before his passing...
2 years have passed :'c
Both these are harder to listen to since his death. Here I'm mourning lost friends with a bottle & Internet connection & I find myself mourning one I only met once a few days before this no less, but whom it feels like I've known since the first time I heard NUFAN back in the Stone Age when I could actually hold my liquor (albeit not legally). At nearly 35 I wonder if I'll be around for my 2 daughters and wife for whom I've often played International You Day.
Thanks bro! I will take that in consideration. I feel pretty terrible about the quality :/ I probably wouldn't have uploaded it if he hadn't died.
Thank you for posting. RIP, what a sweet fucking guy. One suggestion though, monopole for your camera. Best $30 you can spend for recording a show.
international you day Tony Sly, regard /:) see on the out side dude
what kills him
if you read the nofx autobiography you can find out why he died
Did you mean hepatitis bathtub? I can not remember if they spoke clearly how Tony dies. Do you remember?

Joey... stop let him get a bit of the attention where he shines :'(
you drove three hours drunk? thats lame.
