Paint shows best with multiple thin layers, especially yellow. Also, bright colors usually benefit from a light color base (like white / light grey).

Szia! The engraving looks super coo! For the painted part you could have put a second layer of color for a better result. What did you do to avoid distortion of the triangles, since the part is not flat? You could just cut the shape on a sticker sheet, instead of the tape, and use it as a stencil on one or maybe several parts, if you easily remove and reapply the sticker. There are probably less adhesive sticker sheets available. Viszlat!

I used another similar piece as a counterpart to make the surface flat, then measured the exact dimensions and recreated it on the computer.

Great video, I love the progress you're making into designing/modifying your own pieces with custom stuff. This "maker revolution" of affordable cnc, laser and 3d printers that has been going on for the last decade or so is providing amazing opportunities for very custom designs and applications.
Thank you for taking safety so seriously Balázs, these machines are no toys. A single look into the 10W laser (or even the reflection) can permanently damage your eyes, the fumes from lasered plastic/wood can damage your lungs and cause a variety of respiratory problems, including cancer and even damage to other organs. I've seen some cases where somebody forgot to enable the exhaust on a fully enclosed machine, lasered some thing, opened the machine up and got a blast of smoke in his face and was coughing for weeks afterwards.
Never do things in a hurry and if you're unsure, make a checklist on what to do every time you set it up, do a piece and shut it down.
Also keep in mind that the air filters will need to be replaced (or cleaned if possible) after a while (which can be very expensive depending on the filters used, the site says "€219,-" excluding discounts for a single set of filters which should last around 3 months of actual use), but considering it's a closed system exhausting directly outside I'd say this filter is good enough if their specs are accurate. Most smoke particles are in the 1 µm range and they claim it filters 99.97% of >0.03 µm particles, which should be plenty. Just make sure all the pipes seal correctly to the laser device, filter and exhaust board so that no leakage is happening.
I've seen some filters for other "maker" products that simply exhaust back into the workspace and for that I'd look a bit more stringent to the actual filter capabilities (and 3rd party tests), but in this case it's mostly to not make the outside of your house smell like a methlab. If the machine has active ventilation then I think it would be acceptable to just connect it straight to the outside exhaust.
Even though it's fully enclosed and you should be fine operating it like this, I would still suggest getting a pair of proper laser goggles (not the kind off aliexpress but actual certified glasses made specifically for the wavelength of your laser!) and wearing them when operating the machine. You also don't want to leave the room while it's operational, both to keep an eye out for kids/pets/whatever and to be able to emergency stop the machine if it somehow catches on fire.

I never leave the machine unattended when it is operational, and luckily opening the lid shuts down the laser immediately so there's no safety concern from this point of view.

You could then use more layers of color (or even use a primer before)

Would be impossible to know without a time machine, but I'd be curious how well the spray painted brick held up over time. Like, would the paint fade/wear off quickly?

I guess with this masking technique...... you can use special paint to create black light glowing effect.....
Create an Avatar set that actually glows at night like how Pandora should be.

The advantage in thickness and the ability to work with large sizes. Oramask is cut for cutting and easy removal after dyeing with perfect scars. The only negative is its white color, it is not transparent like a film.

Maybe it's about not being a dick to his neighbors.
(Or maybe even legality issues IDK. Like how in some jurisdictions it isn't legal to just pour whatever down the drain, I'd imagine the same to go in some places for gas exhaust too.)

    • @bami2
      @bami2 Год назад

Technically not but the smell of laser burnt plastic is very noticeable and might get neighbors to call the police thinking Balazs has a methlab in his basement.
Creating fumes like this can be actually illegal and breaking the law if it's too noticeable, like if the exhaust is just outside an apartment building or very densely packed residential area for example.

As I pointed out in the video, I don't want to encourage anyone to buy one of these machines just to make some stickers. I want to show how these things can be used with LEGO builds and for LEGO customization. I'm lucky enough to be able to test these machines, and I don't think there are many videos out there showing how you can use them as a LEGO fan, so I'm trying to show the possibilities. If you can justify buying these things for other hobbies or even for work, then you'll know what you can do with LEGO.
