@@TriniT21I don't think Brooke (until this point) has ever had a storyline where she was supportive of someone else and what they were going through. Empathy is just not in her.

You know, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea to have a story line like that. I could totally see Brooke getting caught up with a cross dresser. That chance was missed with Ivana or Morgan. Megan Logan looks like Trisha Yearwood.
An episode of doctor appointments. Taylor and Ridge are there for a check up on his injured hand. Brooke and Deacon are there to check up on their unborn baby.
Who remembers talking about these storylines on message boards in the early 2000s? I was addicted to CBS daytime soap opera recaps, because in my country we'd have to wait 2 or 3 years until the American airing date. I was so hooked on ATWT, DOOL and B&B.
*Stephanie as Sally's Servant* This scene, with Stephanie as the servant and Sally as the queen, playfully reverses the roles of the two characters' usual status dynamic. But even though it is entertaining, it feels like a "play within a play" rather than as realistic - one could imagine Sally daydreaming about something like this, but it is out of character for Stephanie to agree to it, even under pressure. This non-realism is also accentuated by the element of the "secret room", the one that Sally instructs Stephanie _not_ to enter. This is a _very_ common trope in myth and fairy tale, and it usually signifies a character being tested, or tempted, with some secret knowledge they aren't allowed to find out, being unable to resist, and then having to suffer the consequences. We find it in Greek mythology (Pandora opening the box, Orpheus turning around to look at Eurydice), in the BibIe (Eve and the appIe), and fairy tales like BIuebeard (the door that his bride isn't allowed to open). However, in this case, there are no actual consequences for Stephanie when she opens the door. All that happens is that she reveaIs Sally's true nature (which we knew all along), the "play within a play" ends, and the dynamic between the two characters goes back to "normaI".
@@Esi-741 what I like about the scene though is the "status game". Stephanie is in the role of the servant, and she does what Sally asks of her, but she _still_ has higher status than Sally simply because of the way she speaks and carries herself - like an aduIt going along with a child's pretend play. Stephanie is not afraid of Sally, and she is not even upset with her. Instead, SF portrays Stephanie as _worried_ about Sally because she sees that clearly something is very wrong.
@@Esi-741 I found it silly too. Annie's terrific post notwithstanding, this kind of scene is indicative of the show's downward slope for me. It's just inconceivable to imagine a scene like this in the early seasons. The show is becoming campier, goofier and more like the stereotype of a soap.
