I am re-watching the video 12 hours later. @3:16 "We need to either: (1) increase the tension; or (2) capture." - Mr Tillis [numbering mine]. How salient- -yet so simple......
Perhaps the most simplistic yet with the most epiphanies I've ever been educated on playing chess and what moves why and why not and what moves where and where not. Brilliant is a word that sells this video short.
Thanks for sharing! I play chess with a friend of mine and he goes very often into the exchange variation (as white) leaving me always kinda stuck after the first few developed pieces. Mostly the games lead to some endgame grind which is always exhausting and boring.
"Mostly the games lead to some endgame grind which is always exhausting and boring." Welcome to chess! Every time I face a lower-rated player who has white and wants a draw this is how the game goes.
Really nice. Thanks. Have to face the Exchange tomorrow so I guess this will be helpful:-). At the end, instead of ...RxBd1, I would have preferred Nf1+ leaving him the choice between giving his Queen for my Knight or facing Kg1-Ng3+; Kh2-Rh1#^^
