It's not robots that will be dangerous. It's people like Lex who push for them to mimic human emotions and non-utilitarian behaviors that are dangerous. Do not make robots that cause emotional attachments. That is FOOLISH.

Mr Fridman, it just amazes me how your podcasts keep getting better and better. You are an incredible interviewer, asking all the right questions and making the interviewed feel comfortable. I can't tell you how many times I listen to these incredibly intelligent people present to you concepts that are difficult to follow at times, and saying to myself. "I am glad it is Lex responding and not me because I would have to fold, lol" Even though I have a BSEE and 30 years experience as an engineer in the automotive industry!

Knowing from experience what the world was like without internet and smartphones! That’s something 90s kids don’t even know anymore. And those born after 2000 are even on a whole other level.

I enjoy your varied guests as well, some I’ve heard of, many I haven’t because my awareness wasn’t as wide or as vast of everything from education to politics to technology to every kind of possible subject from everything near or far affecting everyone around the world. So relevant for all of us. I appreciate all of your varied guests who have shared their knowledge, experiences, and wisdom as well their humanity. I really like Robert Playter’s statement about breaking things then fixing them and learning things from that. That’s the way we as human beings learn the most and that he encourages taking chances without being overly concerned about perfection right out the gate. The ‘fluency’ of their moves isn’t actually worth anything. Nobody cares how fluent the robot is that’s weeding their garden, they just want it to work and cost less than $1/hour.
Just sat down with my new Raspberry Pi to build my first robot. Realised I didn't have the right leads so I'll have to wait a couple days until they're delivered. Thought I'd do some coding to pass the time... or maybe just check if Lex had added any new content. Happy coincidence :)
@@Sven_Dongle IDK --for example Pi4 is worse on paper than xu4, but performs far better with less issues. RPi4 is also smaller (potentaially better in robotic applications), and cheaper. *I'm not into robotics specifically, but friends that are speak of far more performance issues with Odroid than Pi. XU4 seems to crash -- a lot.

Just dropped by to say this is the single scariest part of the tech dystopia. Giving computers refined physical mobility dramatically increases the capabilities of special interests and governments. They will no longer have to deal with pushback from families of fallen service members. This is a bad, bad idea for anyone not in control.
On a positive note there's a small possibility that robots will create such abundance that the meat bag humans won't have barely anything to fight over
@@gaberoyalll It's not humans in general that concern me, it's a few rich, powerful people in tech who have very specific ideologies they intend on pursuing + all the money they need to pull it off. We can't rely on those people to reflect our interests. Tech dramatically increases human capabilities both good and bad. Look at how the internet has affected society.

Lex, I love you, I think you are a treasure for humanity to have among us but I have to say something slightly critical because I think it might make your interviews a little better. You tend to ask questions of your guests that they just spent the last ten minutes answering. They tell you about an aspect of their journey or expertise and then you ask a question that were just answered with the last ten minutes of conversation. You have the best guests and none of them call you out on this, but I can hear it in their answers that they are a little frustrated that you didn't seem to be listening to the last ten minutes. They seem a little spent on the particular area and are grasping for details. Sure they are mostly enlightened folks that figure out something interesting to say but the process is a little jarring and they tend to go over the same stuff again. I don't have an example from this interview off hand, but I listen to a lot of your pods and have noticed you are doing this a lot. I think you can evolve as an interviewer in an effort to more efficiently evolve the fantastic conversations that you are having. Part of it might be that you already have questions created and they touch on those subjects so you think it is a good time to ask that question but I think you can do better and think on your feet even though you are a meat based large language model. I know that you sometimes don't get good sleep, you have talked about it often. I remember being in a meeting at work after getting terrible sleep and suggesting something that had just been suggested. Maybe you just need to get better sleep. I'm a big fan and just want to see you get better and I have nothing but love for you and what you do.
"I hope they don't take the creative jobs" is a version of "I'm trying to automate YOUR job, not MINE" . We're ultimately all in the same boat. When they master narcissism and hedonism we're in a real quandary.

They have no idea what is going on inside their machines!! and have no hope of controlling them once they becomes generalised and "super intelligent" . Surprised they didn't discuss the possibility of robots being used as soldiers or weapons. I'm sure they would have assessed the money that could be made there too. Starting to find these interviews too positively bias towards anything AI and robots.
They have signed a manifest againt their robots being weaponized, maybe that is not what Lex is interest in. Robots and AI are the progress and you cannot fight, if you think he is biased is because he works with that and is optimistic about it, if you want to be a conspiranoic you can be. Of course there will be robots with weapons but idk how we can fight that, every goverment will be able to build their own robots, hopefully the private companies do not help them.

I feel very well informed to have two roboticists and a leader in the field have this long form conversation about robots and humanoid robots and their future applications in the various industries and in the work force. @@Sven_Dongle IDK --for example Pi4 is worse on paper than xu4, but performs far better with less issues. RPi4 is also smaller (potentaially better in robotic applications), and cheaper.
*I'm not into robotics specifically, but friends that are speak of far more performance issues with Odroid than Pi. XU4 seems to crash -- a lot.

Just dropped by to say this is the single scariest part of the tech dystopia. Giving computers refined physical mobility dramatically increases the capabilities of special interests and governments. They will no longer have to deal with pushback from families of fallen service members. This is a bad, bad idea for anyone not in control.
On a positive note there's a small possibility that robots will create such abundance that the meat bag humans won't have barely anything to fight over
There’s a major limiting factor that won’t see this become the norm around the world for decades. Cost.
@@gaberoyalll It's not humans in general that concern me, it's a few rich, powerful people in tech who have very specific ideologies they intend on pursuing + all the money they need to pull it off. We can't rely on those people to reflect our interests. Tech dramatically increases human capabilities both good and bad. Look at how the internet has affected society.

Lex, I love you, I think you are a treasure for humanity to have among us but I have to say something slightly critical because I think it might make your interviews a little better. You tend to ask questions of your guests that they just spent the last ten minutes answering.
They tell you about an aspect of their journey or expertise and then you ask a question that were just answered with the last ten minutes of conversation. You have the best guests and none of them call you out on this, but I can hear it in their answers that they are a little frustrated that you didn't seem to be listening to the last ten minutes. They seem a little spent on the particular area and are grasping for details. Sure they are mostly enlightened folks that figure out something interesting to say but the process is a little jarring and they tend to go over the same stuff again.
I don't have an example from this interview off hand, but I listen to a lot of your pods and have noticed you are doing this a lot. I think you can evolve as an interviewer in an effort to more efficiently evolve the fantastic conversations that you are having.
Part of it might be that you already have questions created and they touch on those subjects so you think it is a good time to ask that question but I think you can do better and think on your feet even though you are a meat based large language model.
I know that you sometimes don't get good sleep, you have talked about it often. I remember being in a meeting at work after getting terrible sleep and suggesting something that had just been suggested. Maybe you just need to get better sleep.
I'm a big fan and just want to see you get better and I have nothing but love for you and what you do.

BD’s military attempts appear to have failed, they’ve moved on to industrial applications (which will also likely fail in my opinion).
Lex you need to write a book entitled The Philosophy Of Building A Robot.
Surprised they didn't discuss the possibility of robots being used as soldiers or weapons. I'm sure they would have assessed the money that could be made there too. Starting to find these interviews too positively bias towards anything AI and robots.
They have signed a manifest againt their robots being weaponized, maybe that is not what Lex is interest in. Robots and AI are the progress and you cannot fight, if you think he is biased is because he works with that and is optimistic about it, if you want to be a conspiranoic you can be.
Of course there will be robots with weapons but idk how we can fight that, every goverment will be able to build their own robots, hopefully the private companies do not help them.
