The short story on which Arrival is based is excellent. Ted Chiang, the writer of said story, is great. He has two collections of short fiction out, and I recommend both very highly.
Even as an astrophysicist, there is far more to love about Interstellar than there is to dislike. Kip Thorne provided a lot of great scientific accuracy to the movie, and the spectacle and story are well worth it. There are a couple things that could have been less clunky, but I still love the movie.
Denis Villeneuve is fast becoming my favorite director. The man understands sci-fi. Blade Runner 2049 is my all-time favorite of the decade, but The Martian is an absolute close second.
Great list. I forgot how many excellent sci fi films came out this decade. And Arrival is a film that literally stunned me when I saw it. As I was about three quarters through, I was thinking how really, really good it was, but worried that it wouldn't fall apart in the final half hour. Not only did it not fall apart, it transcended itself to something deeper and more emotional than I expected. I cried. One of the greatest sci fi films of all time...
Hello everybody, good morning 🌅! Great video about the best Sci-fi of the decade 2010-2019. My favorite number one is "Inception" (2010). It's a masterpiece made by Christopher Nolan. Congratulations for this video, greetings.
Great list. I've been surprised by the love it or hate it feelings for Arrival. I love it for all the reasons you share, plus, there is a meaningful question for me within. I raised a son with major medical issues and we adopted him knowing that. In the movie I see the question, "If you could do it all again, knowing what you know now, would you do it again?" My son had 11 cranial reduction and other surgeries by the time he was about 12 or so, and that is just the beginning of the challenges for him, and for us. Would I do this all again? Such a hard question, but I love my son and we have all grown so much through these experiences. I'd do anything as a father to make it so he wouldn't have to go through those operations again, and yet... it's not so clear in other ways. It's an important question, and each person's answer speaks volumes. The answer from the Amy Adams character is clear. I love it and respect it.
First of all, thank you for sharing that. It's such a hard question, because most people go through a lot of difficulties in their lives, some more than others. But in the end, I think most of us would still choose the path we are on, regardless of where it leads. And in a way, it's a comforting thought.
Hi I'm new to this channel and I have watched few videos of you and I must say you have a great knowledge and taste for movies. I like your movie reviews and top 10 lists and I'm hoping to see top 10 mystery movies of 2010s decade. Keep it up 😘
bring to me somebody who can even understand it, forget enjoying it. if the audience cannot understand the movie then how can you rate it a masterpiece ? At the end you have judge a movie by its viewing experience and the impression it leaves on the mind of the viewer which I doubt Interstellar would.
@@brajeshsingh2391 obviously a lot of people enjoy it and understand it so I don't get your point. I just watched it again and I agree that it's a masterpiece
@Brajesh Singh So I assume your talking about the ending so let me break it down for ya. So the whole reason why cooper and tars went into the black hole in the first place was to get the quantum data to solve the anomaly which can only be found in a singularity. Now lets talk about the tesseract scene. Now the theory is that the way Cooper entered the Black Hole which was symbolic Allowed the Bulk Beings (They) of this dimension who built the tesseract to manipulate him as humans are beings of 3 dimensions and They were beings of 5. It is also believed they were the ones who put the wormhole near Saturn to start with. Now when cooper entered the black hole the Bulk Beings were able to shape his reality and that is what guided him into his daughters bedroom in the first place. Now To they, Time is represented as a physical dimension, something they could interact with and something their not bound by. So They saw where humanity was leading up but the problem was they had no way to interact with humans since They were beings of 5 dimensions. They needed a vessel who lives INSIDE of this timeline (meaning a human) and can find the quantum data and save humanity and that was who Cooper was and that was who Murph was. Like Cooper said in this scene, The one thing that can cross time and dimensions is yes gravity of course, but it's also love. So now we know that it was Coopers connection between him and Murph that allowed “They” to give her the coordinates through the dust. It also allowed They to place a wormhole to save humanity. Everything that happened, happened because of Cooper and Murph's connection. Murphy's Law, anything that can happen will happen. Not only that But It also had to happen. The reason for this is that if Cooper didnt leave to find the NASA Base and Went to outer space and through the black hole then he would not have been able to give the quantum data to Murphy meaning humanity would then go extinct. So Cooper then gave Murph the quantum data through the watch he gave her and Murph cracked the code of gravity which is something Professor Brand Couldn't do. Now here comes a good twist. So the tesseract closes because it has served it's purpose and completed what it was made to do which was give Murph the Data to save humanity. Now the twist is that These Bulk Beings of a higher dimension arent "Beings" They are actually evolved humans who were able to conquer a 5th Dimension. Now because of this they had to place the wormhole and they had to give Murph and Cooper the Coordinates because if they didnt, they wouldn't exist themselves because They are also humans who just live in a 5th dimension. If humanity went extinct on earth, There would be no Bulk Beings, Their would be no wormhole, their would be no dust anomaly, and their would be no tesseract. So then Boom, we cut to the wormhole scene and we figure out it was Cooper who gave Brand a handshake and then we see Murph Crack the Gravity equation Saving Both The Humans of the Lower 3 dimensions and the Bulk Beings of 5 Dimensions. And then we continue on with the rest of the movie with Humanity Saved and so on.
You know, I remember being surprised by how much people didn't like it - I thought it was pretty enjoyable. But then again, it's been a really long time since I've seen it, and it clearly didn't stick with me enough to revisit. So who knows ))
First time viewer and subscribed! Terrific taste! I’d love to see a list of your favorite time travel/ multiverse/parallel theory movie and other breakdowns within the sci fi genre. There’s not a ton of women major sci fi fans and it’s refreshing! Props to the channel BingeWatchers who recommended you!
Fantastic picks! I guess I've been here a while, I knew you were talking about Bladerunner right away haha. That's my #1, without a doubt. I feel the same way about 2049 that you feel about Arrival. Speaking of, I need to watch that one again. I liked it, but I don't know if I gave it the right attention that it deserved. Is interstellar really that controversial? I absolutely LOVED the film and the soundtrack. It's also got one of the most tense moments I've ever seen in a film. Stunning film. Digging the Slytherin stockings btw. We're the best house!
I see a lot of people complain about "Interstellar" pretty regularly, but I think part of it is people wanting to reject the popular thing? I've heard complains about the science and the ending for the most part. Either way, I love it ))
Love the list! Very similar to what I would pick for top 10 sci-fi of the decade. I would add the Japanese Anime “Your Name.” especially since you love time travel movies. One of my favorite films ever!
Excellent list. It's funny, most of these films would make my all-decade list. They are so good they transcend the sci-fi genre. Also, thank you for mentioning Predestination. It somehow slipped by me. And having Ethan Hawke in the lead role is a true bonus.
Happy holidays and hoping for a great year and decade ahead. 😊 Quite shocked you got 2049 at #3 since you made it well known how much you LOVE the film and visually is the most impressive on this list. Great movie. I'm so grateful for making me remind how much I adore HER. For some reason it slipped my mind for being a Sci-fi flick haha. EASILY one of my all-time favorite movies in general. It got me emotionally.
Just finished watching Predestination, and OMG!!! Mind blown!!! Thanks for the recommendation, I agree. Most underrated movie of the decade. I wish I could say more but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else. Loved it!!!
Blade Runner 2049 Annihilation Edge of Tomorrow Under the Skin Interstellar Ex Machina Top 5. And there were plenty of good ones I still haven't seen like Her.
Love this list!! I only watched Ex Machina, Arrival and Inception but I loved them all and I can't wait to watch the other movies on your list :)! By the way I went to elementary school with Denis Villeneuve's kids and he seemed like a really nice person! Now his daughter is slowly following his footsteps :)
I've seen 9 out of 10 of these. Only one I missed was Predestination, and I see that it's free to watch on Crackle (of all places), so it's getting moved right up to the top of my list now. Thanks!
Great list. I'll recommend a few lesser known movies: Coherence, The One I Love, The Endless, Under The Skin, A Ghost Story, Mirage, Source Code, and The Lobster. I almost added Vox Lux, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, but decided they aren't "sci-fi."
Haven't seen "Mirage", but I've seen the rest of these, and enjoyed most of them. "A Ghost Story" stood out to me though-LOVED the film, but would you really call it sci-fi? I can't say I'd classify it as that genre.
Thanks a lot. I wish you will have a good year too, with a lot movies, TV series and books. RUclips would need more channels like yours... a great exemple to combine culture with entertainment. Best regards and good luck
Fantastic list! Mine in no particular order: Inception Interstellar Edge of tomorrow The Martian Arrival Annihilation AD Astra Blade runner 2049 Predestination Snowpiercer This decade was amazing! Gonna miss it a lot
Great list Mariana.. Before Ex Machina, there was Dredd (2012) from the same writer/director (only revealed later on). While technically a comic book adaptation it still is very much sci-fi.. He also did Annihilation, which is up there in my list..
10. The Machine - Similiar to Ex Machina & released the same time but with action sequences 09. Upgrade 08. Edge of Tomorrow 07. Snowpiercer 06. Her 05. Inception 04. Predestination 03. Gravity 02. Ex Machina 01. Arrival Honorable Mentions: Mad Max Fury Road, Never Let Me Go, Midnight Special, Pacific Rim, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Under The Skin, Attack The Block, Alita: Battle Angel, 10 Cloverfield Lane, A Quiet Place, I Am Mother, Logan
I love the majority of choices you had on your list, Marianna! Surprisingly, I'm not a fan of The Martian or Interstellar; I know I'm evil. Personally, I would've added Under the Skin, which is one of my favorite films of the decade period. And if we're counting short films, Don Hertzeldt's World of Tomorrow definitely deserves a spot.
I love coming across people who enjoy films as much as I do......love your lists we have similar tastes. I love Arrival too but it kind of takes you to a strange place emotionally which weirded me out a little. Love Bladerunner 2049 and still have to see looper and predestination.....thanks for the recommendations!
I know this is an older video of yours, but if you liked inception you will definitely like Paprika. It is a Japanese animated film and inception seems to pull a lot of ideas from it. I would definitely give it a shot
Ive been enjoying your reviews a lot lately. I particularly liked the one you did for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Are you going to review The Irishman by any chance? I would love to see that.
Excellent list Marianna. Denis Villeneuve twice. I'm shocked. Shocked. Just watched Bladerunner 2049 again. Yes indeed it just gets better. By the way I do appreciate technophobic AI films, which I thought Her actually kind of was by the end. But I do agree it was one of the best Sci-Fi films of the decade. And Marianna did you just up your winsomeness factor to the power of ten, or is it just your ear poking out asymmetrically?
Thanks for this! Can't wait to watch the films on the list that I haven't seen (everything besides Inception, Interstellar, Her, Arrival and Ex Machina)
Another Sci/Fi 2010's film that I just re-watched last night which i think is underappreciated and it would be in my top similar list is 'The Edge of Tomorrow (2014)" Tom Cruise is great in there. It is kind of "Groundhog" premise in the future but that actually explains the time resseting in a cool way. Emily Blunt is also very good and the screen play was co-authored for the one now favorite Cruise collaborator Christopher Macquarry 😎
I'd have Interstellar higher but I'm glad it made the list. Thanks to you for some great recommendations and RUclips for not recommending this like 5 years down the line
Great list! Here's mine I'm gonna do top 6 though if that's fine 1. Interstellar 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Inception 4. Jurassic World fallen kingdom 5. Arrival 6. Rogue one a star wars story Keep up the good work! Ps: Could you do a top 10 favourite films of the decade video?
I share many of the same picks Blade Runner, Arrival, Predestination, Snowpiercer, Her..but would add Edge Of Tomorrow, War Of The Planet Of The Apes, Midnight Special and Annihilation
Predestination just didn't do it for me. I tried but nope. Her is absolutely fantastic! I feel like many people have already forgotten about it so it was nice to see on your list.
@@PV1230 10/10 - I heard it was so confusing that I never went and saw it in theatres in summer 2010. But my friend convinced me it was time to watch it last year. Definitely worth several viewings if you don't get it on the first try.
For anyone who enjoys the timeloop element of Presdestination I would highly reccomend a 2007 Spanish film called Timecrimes and the Netflix TV series Dark. My Top 10: 1. Arrival 2. Interstellar 3. Blade Runner 2049 4. Inception 5. Her 6. Predestination 7. Cloud Atlas 8. Ex Machina 9. Coherence 10. Snowpeircer Honoroble Mentions: The Martian, Planet of the Apes, Edge of tomorrow & Upgrade.
Great List A few others of note: Under the Skin The Lobster Annihilation Edge of Tomorrow 10 Cloverfield Lane Fury Road Unfortunately: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind doesn't fit in (2004) nor Dark City (1998) but they still sit with this list I think.
Great picks for top sci-fi films of the decade! Here are mine: 1. Ex Machina 2. Dredd 3. Alita Battle Angel 4. Arrival 5. 10 Cloverfield Lane 6. Ghost in the Shell 7. Upgrade 8. Interstellar 9. Annihilation 10. Her
I personally believe Looper might be Johnson's most unremarkable film. I certainly can't see putting it above Brick. Enjoyed the rest of the list though.
What a lovely video. My personal top 10 are: 1. Inception 2. Arrival 3. Looper 4. Edge of Tomorrow 5. The Martian 6. Interstellar 7. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 8. About Time 9. Blade Runner 2049 10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Honorable mentions: Coherence, Snowpiercer, Ex Machina, Chronicle, Melancholia, The One I Love, Avengers: Infinity War
great list, glad to see Predestination in there. I would also throw in Ad Astra. Arrival is my favorite as well, i have a full review of it on my facebook page today :)
Ack, I have list issues. Docked 5 points for going over... 1 Inception 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Tron: Legacy 4 Rogue One 5 Alita: Battle Angel 6 Edge of Tomorrow 7 Ex Machina 8 Oblivion 9 Her 10. Predestination 11. Ad Astra 12. The Martian 13. Arrival 14. Lucy 15. Pacific Rim
Definitely enjoyed "Annihilation" a lot, that's something that would easily go on my honorable mentions list. Didn't love "Under the Skin" though-I respect it, but I preferred the book by a long shot.
Excellent video. I agree on most of them. My top spot will go to "Inception" and I would have "Ex-Machina" higher. Notable omission for me is "Edge of Tomorrow". There is a very low budget film that went on limited release that I LOVED "Robot & Frank" starring Frank Langella.
My favorites (In no particular order and not limited to one decade): Sunshine (Danny Boyle film) V for Vendetta (I'd say it qualifies as Sci-Fi) Edge of Tomorrow Dredd Dune (2022) 12 Monkeys Inception Alien Rogue One Chappie Contact
Do we consider "Enemy" sci-fi though? I honestly don't know what genre to put that under, would probably go with psychological thriller? or drama? I did really enjoy "Mr. Nobody"))
Inception and Blade Runner 2049 are my favorites from your list. Inception is in my all time favorite movies list. The only movie from your list which I have not seen is Her.
Some quick thoughts on your list: 10) Ex Machina was awesome, and a little disturbing...always the mark of a good sci-fi film. 9) Never seen Predestination, but love a good time travel story, so I'll definitely have to check it out now. If you really want to hurt your brain, then watch Primer. (EDIT: I now own Predestination, thank you for turning me on to that film.) 8) I agree with you on Looper, it is the director's best film; certainly not The Last Jedi. 7) The Martian is part of Matt Damond's "rescue" trilogy, where he's always getting rescued (The Martian, Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar...) 6) I just did not really enjoy Snowpiercer. It seemed a bit too "on the nose". Personally, it felt fairly shallow in terms of the way the story was told. And the ending left me unsatisfied and unconvinced. Just different strokes, I guess. Parasite was amazing, however! THAT movie was operatic....Shakespearian! 5) I would never @ you for Interstellar. I'm a fanboy of the director myself, so it makes perfect sense to me. 4) Inception is consistently in my top 10 period. (Can't wait for Tenet!) That film just tickles my brain in all the ways I enjoy. The ending is "real life" btw, lol. 3) BR 2049 was one of the most effective movie experiences I've had in recent years. It is such a mood piece, I just love it. Agreed, gorgeous film indeed. 2) Her is more social commentary than sci-fi, but I get why you chose it. It's a very sad film, I think because it's already true (the loneliness part, not necessarily the technology part). 1) Arrival is a thinking person's sci-fi film. I had one of the deepest conversations with my parents after I made them watch it. I'm really looking forward to Dune later this year. A few others you NEED to check out -- not necessarily from that decade -- that are worth your time: Frequency (time travel whodunit), Time Crimes (Spanish time travel), Gattaca (genetics), Source Code (can't explain), The Butterfly Effect (time-travel, it's namesake), Primer (time travel, previously mentioned), Minority Report (predicting the future), Coherence (parallel dimensions), Fire In The Sky (alien abduction), and Contact (other worlds). Anyway, love your channel, keep it up!
Hey, you know I was curious to see if you have a video on your top 10 favorite movies of all time but I can't seem to find it. Do you have one? And if not, would you be interested in doing an updated top 10 movies of all time video for us???? I am a movie buff as you are and I like your taste so I'd really appreciate it!
My personal top 10: 10. Upstream Color 9. Annhilation 8. The Lobster 7. Mad Max: Fury Road 6. Arrival 5. Blade Runner: 2049 4. Under the Skin 3. Star Wars: Rogue One 2. Melancholia 1.Ex-Machina
I (mostly) agree on Interstellar. Although I don’t love it like you do, I do really like it and I think people are crazy to act as if the ending ruins it. Not my favourite ending but I like it a lot I guess goes to show how important an ending is to a film. And yes, THAT scene makes me cry too. How annoyed would you be to find out that I bought Arrival when it came out on blu ray... and I still haven’t even opened it?
While I really like this list, I'm kind of disappointed not to see Under the Skin on there. Not only do I think it's one of the best sci-fi films of the decade, I think it's one of the best ever made. Amazing score, brilliant acting, stunning cinematography, and profound story about the nature of empathy and what it means to be human.
Honestly, I didn't love "Under the Skin", though I know I'm in the minority on that one. Preferred the book, even though I read it after seeing the film.
You like dance scenes, don't you (I Am Thinking of Ending Things)? I totally agree with you regarding that and Predestination! If Predestination hurts your head, what does Tenet do? Nail it with a hammer?
Scarlett Johanson was amazing as the AI in "Her". Her voice is so comfortable, it's like listening to a forest in summer 😌
Agree... Amazon Echo NEEDS to add her to the voice selections like now!!!
Loved all these films, especially agreed with Arrival. That movie was so impactful, I still consider what it means today. Also loved Annihilation!
Really liked "Annihilation" as well, it would have made my honorable mentions if I decided to put together some.

Loved it!!!
The only movie that I haven't seen is your #1, lol. I guess I should get on that ASAP. I love all of the other films on this list. Great stuff!
Blade Runner 2049
Annihilation
Edge of Tomorrow
Under the Skin Interstellar
Ex Machina
Top 5.
I'm glad you included Predestination in your list. It blew my mind at first watch. Brilliant performance by Sarah Snook.
Spot on top ten. I will be watching more of your reviews 👍
So nice and unexpected to see Her in there! I've been meaning to rewatch it for years. Sadly I didn't get the hype with Arrival 🙈
I've seen 9 out of 10 of these. Only one I missed was Predestination, and I see that it's free to watch on Crackle (of all places), so it's getting moved right up to the top of my list now. Thanks!
I hope you enjoy it!
Flawless and perfect presentation as always.
Nice!
Do top 10 horror next!
Love your choices!
Great list. I'll recommend a few lesser known movies:
Coherence, The One I Love, The Endless, Under The Skin, A Ghost Story, Mirage, Source Code, and The Lobster.
@@ImpressionBlend
"A Ghost Story" is sci-fi because of the time travel.
"Mirage" is on Netflix and also screws around with time.
Good morning. I agree with your list... over all, the top five. Merry Christmas, best regards and good luck.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you too!
Thanks a lot. I wish you will have a good year too, with a lot movies, TV series and books. RUclips would need more channels like yours... a great exemple to combine culture with entertainment. Best regards and good luck
Fantastic list!
Mine in no particular order:
Inception
Interstellar
Edge of tomorrow
The Martian
Arrival
Annihilation
AD Astra
Blade runner 2049
Predestination
Snowpiercer
This decade was amazing!
Gonna miss it a lot
That's a pretty perfect list, to be honest. Arrival is an absolute masterpiece, so happy to see it at the top!
Thank you! "Arrival" is perfection!
Geek Pants great list, personally would’ve added annihilation
@@paname7521 Annihilation is a fantastic choice, too.
All great choices!
Great list Marianna love it
Great list Mariana.. Before Ex Machina, there was Dredd (2012) from the same writer/director (only revealed later on). While technically a comic book adaptation it still is very much sci-fi.. He also did Annihilation, which is up there in my list..
I really like that you prefer Story line over looks of the film. Not that any of these movies looks bad but you know.
10 Cloverfield Lane and A Quiet Place would be on mine for sure. But great list of great movies!
Predestination is the most mind-boggling SciFi movie I've ever seen. And you are absolutely right. It doesn't get enough love.
10. The Machine - Similiar to Ex Machina & released the same time but with action sequences
09. Upgrade
08. Edge of Tomorrow
07. Snowpiercer
06. Her
05. Inception
04. Predestination
03. Gravity
02. Ex Machina
01. Arrival
Honorable Mentions:
Mad Max Fury Road, Never Let Me Go, Midnight Special, Pacific Rim, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Under The Skin, Attack The Block, Alita: Battle Angel, 10 Cloverfield Lane, A Quiet Place, I Am Mother, Logan
I forgot about Predestination but back in college, I recommend it to anyone. Will rewatch it soon! That's soooo good!
We matched with Arrival, Inception, Interestellar, The Martian. Other of my favorite are Gravity and In Time
I love the majority of choices you had on your list, Marianna!
I think Under the Skin is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. I'm a little bummed she didn't include it.
Yes, have to agree on Under the Skin. Truly unique. Harrowing. I'd have placed it instead of The Martian.
Yeah wasn't a fan of The Martian either. Something about its dialogue or humour felt very fabricated.
I love coming across people who enjoy films as much as I do......love your lists we have similar tastes. I love Arrival too but it kind of takes you to a strange place emotionally which weirded me out a little. Love Bladerunner 2049 and still have to see looper and predestination.....thanks for the recommendations!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video ))
Did you like Upgrade (2018) ?
Yes! It really surprised me, so much fun!
I love how much you recommend Snowpiercer! I loved the movie when I watched it but nobody I talked to thought it was very good. :(
It's a good film. She didn't mention Tilda Swinton in it.
I know. Denis Villeneuve, WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED ))
Thanks for this! Can't wait to watch the films on the list that I haven't seen (everything besides Inception, Interstellar, Her, Arrival and Ex Machina)
Awesome review of Top 10 Sci Fi Movie. I like it.
Great list! Here's mine I'm gonna do top 6 though if that's fine
1. Interstellar
2. Blade Runner 2049
3. Inception
4. Jurassic World fallen kingdom
5. Arrival
6. Rogue one a star wars story
Keep up the good work!
Ps: Could you do a top 10 favourite films of the decade video?
Best wishes for the coming year, love and warmth !!
Thank you! Same to you!!
I share many of the same picks Blade Runner, Arrival, Predestination, Snowpiercer, Her..but would add Edge Of Tomorrow, War Of The Planet Of The Apes, Midnight Special and Annihilation
loving your list.. watched looper twice but sadly couldn't connect to it
Predestination just didn't do it for me. I tried but nope. Her is absolutely fantastic! I feel like many people have already forgotten about it so it was nice to see on your list.
I am continuously surprised by how little "Her" is mentioned
I only saw _Inception_ for the first time in December 2018.
how do you rate it?
@@PV1230 10/10 - I heard it was so confusing that I never went and saw it in theatres in summer 2010. But my friend convinced me it was time to watch it last year. Definitely worth several viewings if you don't get it on the first try.
For anyone who enjoys the timeloop element of Presdestination I would highly reccomend a 2007 Spanish film called Timecrimes and the Netflix TV series Dark.
My Top 10:
1. Arrival
2. Interstellar
3. Blade Runner 2049
4. Inception
5. Her
6. Predestination
7. Cloud Atlas
8. Ex Machina
9. Coherence
10. Snowpeircer
Honoroble Mentions: The Martian, Planet of the Apes, Edge of tomorrow & Upgrade.
Great List
A few others of note:
Under the Skin
The Lobster
Annihilation
Edge of Tomorrow
10 Cloverfield Lane
Fury Road
Unfortunately: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind doesn't fit in (2004) nor Dark City (1998) but they still sit with this list I think.
Great picks for top sci-fi films of the decade! Here are mine:
1. Ex Machina
2. Dredd
3. Alita Battle Angel
4. Arrival
5. 10 Cloverfield Lane
6. Ghost in the Shell
7. Upgrade
8. Interstellar
9. Annihilation
10. Her
I personally believe Looper might be Johnson's most unremarkable film. I certainly can't see putting it above Brick. Enjoyed the rest of the list though.
My #1 is Blade Runner 2049. I like how Her influenced parts of Blade Runner
Hey Marianna great list, especially blade runner. Have you read/watched the expanse? I would love to hear your thoughts on the series.
What a lovely video. My personal top 10 are:
1. Inception
2. Arrival
3. Looper
4. Edge of Tomorrow
5. The Martian
6. Interstellar
7. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
8. About Time
9. Blade Runner 2049
10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Honorable mentions: Coherence, Snowpiercer, Ex Machina, Chronicle, Melancholia, The One I Love, Avengers: Infinity War
spider-verse isn't sci fi.
@@PV1230 How do you figure? It's main storyline is about parallel universes, one of the most sci-fi things there is.
Great list actually.
great list, glad to see Predestination in there. I would also throw in Ad Astra. Arrival is my favorite as well, i have a full review of it on my facebook page today :)
she is back !!!
Ack, I have list issues. Docked 5 points for going over...
1 Inception
2. Blade Runner 2049
3. Tron: Legacy
4 Rogue One
5 Alita: Battle Angel
6 Edge of Tomorrow
7 Ex Machina
8 Oblivion
9 Her
10. Predestination
11. Ad Astra
12. The Martian
13. Arrival
14. Lucy
15. Pacific Rim
Also. If we are not sticking only to "theatrical" releases may I add,
Otherworld
Specter
I Am Mother
What happened to Monday
Im so happy you chose arrival over blade runner for the 1st spot.
Your list is basically the same as mine except I have Annihilation and Under the Skin instead of Predestination and The Martian.
I also like Arrival a lot, Gravity is also one of my best. Gravity and Arrival are best for me.
My favorites (In no particular order and not limited to one decade):
Sunshine (Danny Boyle film)
V for Vendetta (I'd say it qualifies as Sci-Fi)
Edge of Tomorrow
Dredd
Dune (2022)
12 Monkeys
Inception
Alien
Rogue One
Chappie
Contact
Coming to think about it.... I love all the films in the list... however I will change The Martian and Snowpiercer for Enemy and Mr. Nobody.
"Her" is amazing, I hope you give it a chance
@@ImpressionBlend Yes. I will see it before new year for sure :)
I knew that Villeneuve movies will be on the top of the list! But you love Interstellar.... which makes you my new best friend 😁🤩
I absolutely love 2049, Her, Ex Machina and Arrival! I do love Annihilation though, maybe even more than Machina
Some quick thoughts on your list:
10) Ex Machina was awesome, and a little disturbing...always the mark of a good sci-fi film.
9) Never seen Predestination, but love a good time travel story, so I'll definitely have to check it out now. If you really want to hurt your brain, then watch Primer. (EDIT: I now own Predestination, thank you for turning me on to that film.)
8) I agree with you on Looper, it is the director's best film; certainly not The Last Jedi.
7) The Martian is part of Matt Damond's "rescue" trilogy, where he's always getting rescued (The Martian, Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar...)
6) I just did not really enjoy Snowpiercer.
If I made a list of top sci-fi movies of the decade Ex Machina and Predestination would also be on my list!
My personal top 10:
10. Upstream Color
9. Annhilation
8. The Lobster
7. Mad Max: Fury Road
6. Arrival
5. Blade Runner: 2049
4. Under the Skin
3. Star Wars: Rogue One
2. Melancholia
1.Ex-Machina
Merry christmas Mariana
Merry Christmas!
You need to fix this sealed blu-ray mistake, ASAP ))
While I really like this list, I'm kind of disappointed not to see Under the Skin on there. Not only do I think it's one of the best sci-fi films of the decade, I think it's one of the best ever made. Amazing score, brilliant acting, stunning cinematography, and profound story about the nature of empathy and what it means to be human.
Thank you! I will definitely add Under the Skin to my personal watch list.
Honestly, I didn't love "Under the Skin", though I know I'm in the minority on that one. Preferred the book, even though I read it after seeing the film.
Liked the list. I think Ex Machina should of been higher though.
You like dance scenes, don't you (I Am Thinking of Ending Things)? I totally agree with you regarding that and Predestination! If Predestination hurts your head, what does Tenet do? Nail it with a hammer?
