- I just moved from California to Sweden, and with that comes an entirely new environment to become accustomed to! In this video I'll share a fun little scenic loop near my new house, with some antics as per usual :P

Allemansrätten has a lot of do's, but also a few don'ts. The right to forage, and camp for three days in one place is awesome. But hazelnuts are a nono. Also live wood and building a fire on bedrock and boulders. It's a good idea to read up on it's entirety. But mostly, it's a huge freedom. And if the landowner see's you, it's more likely that they reach for their coffee pot. And not their gun. Enjoy! 👍🏻 The law about hazelnuts and bee swarms are two of our oldest.
Yeah, berries and mushrooms are fine to pick (but be careful, many mushrooms are more or less poisionous, and not all berries are safe either), but you are not allowed to pick things from living trees like branches, seeds or nuts if I understand it correctly.
Once summer hits, you Will never want to leave Sweden, once autumn hit, you Will question every choice you ever made and regret everything, the winter comes and everything becomes a bit more chill and wholesome, then spring and promise of life comes. The swedish cycle. Nothing beats the Scandinavian summer
Agree, even if some of the days in the autumn can be fantastic with clear blue sky, sunny with a slightly cold/mild temperature.
It's during the winter that I curse all my ancestors for choosing this awful place to live, why spend half of your lifespan in total darkness? It's both a mental and physical prison not being able to do things outside. Good days in winter you can count on one hand, totally not worth it. But I'm stuck here since I don't wanna leave my friends, family and other relatives. I did make a try though in New Zealand when I was younger but got very homesick and missed all the people back home.
@@mentalmadness9783 I used to know someone who, a gray day, right on the freezing/thawing point once said "I wish I could have a word with that guy who pointed at the north, saying "Let's go there!!"

Adding another welcome to Sweden. Amazing editing - and surfing skills. Spring seems to have arrived in Kalmar County, looking forward to seeing you documenting the changing seasons. I'm sure you'll be nipping across the bridge to Öland eventually, seeing as you're in the general area.

Jealous you can venture through the woods in your backyard - our forests up here are off limits due to the wild boar disease. The quarantine started right before I moved here last year of course. 🙄😂

You will need different coats for all of our weather changes. And also lots of boots and shoes. 😅

There are not only wind shelters but also proper cabins with stoves and wood free of use all over Sweden. Most are mapped but a lot are not. You’re allowed to sleep in them, up to three nights in a row. Of course, other people can show up as well. Regarding wild camping you’re allowed to camp everywhere up to three days then you have to move spot. You’re allowed to forage for berries and mushrooms and start fires. Of course, leave no trace.
And also to keep a good distance to peoples homes and home lots while doing so. One important rule is to not disturb the ones living there more permanently. 🙂
Welcome to Sweden! It has been a very windy winter in Sweden so that’s why so many trees and branches has fallen. Also probably why the deer stand had fallen over! Love the videos!

Welcome to Sweden! 😃 I believe this weather is the most boring one you can experience in our small country, with rain it would be even worse 😆 So when spring and summer comes I guess it will feel like you’re living in a fairytale when you’re from another country 😁
You said that you love nature so I just want to suggest that you sometime in the future visit the beautiful north of Sweden and experience the northern lights etc.

8.5 years ago I moved 1/3 of the way across the country to a place where I knew no one. It was rough early on but I can't forget the sense of adventure settling in, learning the area and most important, the locations of local hiking and natural areas. They've been my salvation.

I moved to Småland also maybe 7 years ago, from another part of Sweden. If you miss American BBQ you'll find this foodie with an offset smoker about 2 hours by car inland, northwest of Kalmar. 😂
If you think it changes quickly, just wait for april. -10°C and snowstorm one day, +10°C and sunshine the next. 👍

Sarek national park in Sweden is stunning and its also Europes last true wilderness so if your in to nature you should definitely go hiking there in the summer. its on my bucket list of things to do.

This all looks a little mundane to me, but seeing it through your eyes definitely makes it look a whole lot more magical!
Whenever you're more comfortable with Swedish, you should watch Ronja Rövardotter and Pippi Långstrump!
Apart from being compulsory for the Swedish experience, based on this video I know you'll enjoy them :)

genarally november-february is pretty dull in sothern sweden. it will transfom alot in the coming months :) The spring period march-may is really nice!
Speaking of Ronja Rövardotter, ONE of the areas it was at is Dalsland, in a landscape that is STUNNING.
If you go to the web page 'Visit Åmål' (or 'Visit Sweden', to find out about all of Sweden!) Åmål is the only town in Dalsland, located by Lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden. You will find a bunch of hiking routes, some are in the surroundings where Ronja Rövardotter was filmed, marking the places.
The movie was filmed in several places, from Jämtland in the midst of Sweden to Skåne in the south.
Speaking of Åmål, the movie "Fucking Åmål" is probably the best Swedish language movie I've seen. The language is definitely harder, but I recommend it as a snapshot of youth culture in the late 90's/early 00's. It's called "Show me love" in English because?

Hey, it would be great if you could provide some background as to why you moved to Sweden and why Kalmar.
So in everyman's right you are allow to camp anywhere for 1 night, not in someone's else yard though, so dont camp in someone's backyard. foraging is allowed not hunting though, fishing is allowed at open oceans(beaches and piers), need licence or permit for most lakes and rivers though. Don't hunt without hunter licence and hunting ground. I don't think there is any licence free air guns/pellet guns that have enough power to kill a animal without it being classed as animal cruelty. Enjoy the nature though, its one of the best boons we have here in sweden.

Please be careful when you're walking alone on the ice. Especially if you don't know how deep the water below is. If you're alone and fall through the ice in the cold water no one can help you if there's hardly any people around the places where you're walking. Be careful and take care 🤗

Curious: How's your visa situation?
It was a bit cringe to see you walking in the field at 5:40, it seems like planted acres. You are allowed to walk there by law but not to harm any plantations. I'm not sure you did but "good manners" is to avoid trampling down cultivated land. It's the difference between a tourist and a local ;-) A "local" would have (should have) chosen to walk on the snow strip between the field and the creek. Just saying, because if nobody explains, how would anyone know?
The All man's rights is about having access everywhere but not leaving any marks, there should be no traces from you being there (footsteps in the snow is OK of course but regard that as about the limit to what's acceptable) Then we are respecting this right and also the owners, not to mention nature itself. "Leave no marks" is the key. Yes the icewalk seemed a bit sketchy too but I reckon you were on the beach and not out over water? If you were over water, it wasn't a very good idea to go there :-) but you're still with us, everything is fine. Ice is very treacherous, especially when it's thaw, take no chances with it. People die every year from poor ice. Nice to see your joy of discovering and enjoying the nature. Then you've comed to the right place and at the right time, just as summer is approaching and all things come to life after a long winter sleep. It's just wonderful to see it change day by day in the spring. Foraging is generally OK but some plants and animals are protected. Yes, leave no marks, only footprints. better yet, leave it in a better state than you found it. meaning, if you are camping for example and are cleaning up. pick up all the trash, even if it was there before you got there. you will feel good about doing it and the next person will enjoy a nice, clean spot as well, win win ;)

@@skapaallt Those "unwritten laws" are the worst :-) I'd say it goes deep into our culture, we are taught from childhood how to deal with nature, in detail, and any deviations may create strong reactions. Try to do just a little more or better than required, and we cut you some slack when mistakes are made. All in all that shows that you are respectable and responsible to us. You'll figure out over time what I'm talking about ;-)
