- Fellow collector Mark Johnson has loaned me a couple of power supplies, so I can test my Macintosh Portable. He has lent me a Macintosh Portable power supply and a power supply for one of the PowerBook 100 series.
I had no luck with the Macintosh Portable power supply, it did not do anything and made no noises. This is probably due to the Portables battery being totally flat. The PowerBook 100 series power supply worked well, but the Portable does have a problem. It spat out a load of different Sad Mac error codes whilst making the strange flupping sound.

This could be happening because the PowerBook power supply is supplying enough current for the unit to power on, but there's simply not enough power in the battery to successfully boot the system, thus why the power management error appears and why it rapidly restarts afterwards.
Or maybe the battery's outdated.

Don't use a powerbook charger, over time it blows the charging mosfet. Your best bet is to replace the mosfet, and get an equivalent 6v 5amp battery.
Yeah. It's also basic common sense. A Macintosh Portable is not a Powerbook, therefore: *don't use a Powerbook charger for a Macintosh Portable.*

I'm pretty sure it's a failed battery to blame for this, after all those did use lead acid batteries. Either that, or the power supply wasn't able to sustain it.

That power charger is going to break your machine, they cook that transistors that turn 6v into 12v so I HIGHLY suggest you not use that. If your looking to get your machine running right, you'll need to recap your logic board, and rebuild the battery. There are resources available for you to send the board to have it repaired and people sell rebuilt batteries.

The power supply is probably busted, not providing enough voltage. When it starts to play the chime the voltage goes too low and switches off briefly before switching back on, noticing that the voltage is low, and crashing again, causing the cycle...
This Mac is like "I'm crashed but PARTY HARD WOOOOOO"

Thomas Hutcherson the machine is heavily damaged by having its battery dead. It is spitting out many different codes at the same time beachside so many things went wrong

@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial I think the machine is spitting out the single error code. Mac tries to continue loading but it freaks out and puts itself in an endless loop.
Depends on if the acid/chemicals leaked out and if any of it corroded the circuit boards.
Being such an old design, hopefully it could still be powered on with the wall wart without the battery inside. I wouldn't even try replacing or rebuilding the battery in this machine but instead just use it as a regular classic Mac desktop computer.
Hopefully there is no corrosion inside this machine, and the issue is just the wall wart. If this Mac can be gotten up and running, it would be a good idea to replace the electrolytic capacitors inside of it as they have a high likelihood of failing, especially given the age this machine. Those too can leak and damage the boards.

The error code appears to be: 00000014 0000CD30 (I might of got this wrong as the close up is extremely blurred :\ )
Edit: Theory... Past the Sad Mac error, it is likely a power capacitance issue.

Yes. It was used (along with the Happy Mac) up until Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2). Then the current prohibitory sign and Apple logo replaced it.

i dont know how, but maybe you can ask another person for another copy of the macOS because the dead battery may have sucked the memory from det drive. Try to switch other components to better quality ones or if you cant afford to buy them, you can take them out, dust them(and wipe with wet cloth), then put it back in. for example RAM(?),HARD DRIVE, and some other components. p.s. try these but i do not gurantee you a 100 percent result. Have a nice day!
