The male vocalist you are hearing is Marko Hietala. He is a well know musician in Finland, loved and respected as one of the founders of metal in that country. His voice is unique and powerful. Marko harmonizes so well with Floor, and there are songs in the Nightwish catalog where he is the lead singer. And, of course, as he is singing he is still playing that bass. To hear the full power and range of Marko's voice, I suggest that you listen to Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd and their iconic song "High Hopes" from the End of an Era DVD.
I actually understand why you think it sounds like Wagner. It sounds vaguely like "Flight of the Valkyries". The parts of the verses seem to have the orchestral sound (horns?) of staccato that is somewhat loosely reminiscent of FotV. I never really thought of that.
"Storytime", "Romanticide", "Yours Is An Empty Hope", "The Poet And The Pendulum", "Ever Dream" and "The Greatest Show On Earth" are excellent choices. You'll be blown away with what Marko can do.

That's from an opera "Die Walküre" which translates to "The Valkyrie". LOL. Coincidence? Ha... I don't think so.
