      It's really hard to actually get kids removed from parents. With this movie taking place in small town USA I'd bet the odds they even have local CPS are pretty low, meaning they'd be relying on the state adding a case to some already-overworked case worker who'd have to set aside an entire day to drive out there for an investigation that probably wouldn't result in anything more than a correction plan being put in place with followup being highly unlikely.

Lucas tried to take care of his little brother and his dad. Even while transforming, his dad took Aidan in to the attic with him to keep him from hurting Lucas. Even after he fully became a Wendigo, his dad still tried to protect his kids. And even after becoming beasts, Lucas still wanted to help his family.

    It's sad that the smartest person in this movie is the traumatized 12 year old. The meth cookers use flares in a lab (asking for an explosion) and then follow spooky sounds past protective talismans in an abandoned mine. The teacher and the principle casually walk into the house of a known meth cook, which is incredibly stupid even if he isn't possessed. The deputy clearly knows what it going on the moment he sees the eaten body, and understands that it will only get worse, yet doesn't gather a hunting party to deal with the problem. If I'm him, I'm not going anywhere without one of those medicine bags and an automatic shotgun loaded with slugs. If possible, I'm calling the national guard and having them set up a trap with some dead animals in a killbox covered by a couple mk 19 grenade launchers.
    I don't know if you've seen it, but there is a good similar movie called Dark Was the Night that you might want to check out. It's less depressing, and with fewer stupid people, but the monster CGI is somewhat worse. • @aroha9090
      @aroha9090 Год назад +33

      @@MortalOrder Obviously I'm not OP, but from what I understand the Not Deer, and Hidebehind aren't straight Native American legends, but rather stories that came out of the mixing of European colonisers with the indigenous people/tribes.
      The Not Deer stories seem to mostly be based in the Appalachians, when Irish people settled there and integrated their own superstitions with indigenous superstitions and mythology. Descriptions vary but basically, they're like something that pretends to be a deer, or looks a lot like a deer, but gives the viewer a sinister sense of foreboding. They've been described with predator-like eyes, and/or sharp teeth/fangs and/or walking on hind legs like a person and/or moving unlike a natural animal... basically, imagine a deer that's... wrong and terrifying. It's possibly inspired by the Wendigo (human flesh eater) or the Navajo myth of the Skinwalker (which was an evil magic user who could use an animal form).
      The Hidebehind is more akin to Europeanised folk tales like Paul Bunyan. It's a creature that has no description because its main trick is to hide as soon as you try and see it, then grab people, which it eats. So the only people who may have seen it were eaten up. If you hear a twig snap in the woods, maybe it was the Hidebehind!

    • @Sate12
      @Sate12 Год назад +18

      @@aroha9090 Essentially, yes. Some people have used the Not Deer name for the flesh eater due to the antlers some legends claim they have. Again, there are tons of stories of things lurking in the woods and few are friendly. A really big difference (from what I've read) is you want to keep a flesh eater in sight and move as far away as fast as you can. Never ever run from a sk!nwalker and don't you dare look at the hide behind. Things go south very fast. Also, I think fire only works on the not deer but none of the three would be able to cross the medicine bags

But that isn't how the Wendigo actually works, yes there are some versions that says if you are greedy and take more then you need you could become a Wendigo. But the main one is that the Wendigo is an evil spirit/monster that has to do with cannibalism, and is associated with winter, the north, coldness, and starvation. I love how the Wendigo got white washed, a wendigo is something you can’t kill only run away or cast it away.
    Wendigos are monsters that hunger for human flesh but will eat smaller animals if it’s first choice isn’t near. They stalk their prey and when it comes to humans they love to toy with them and get the scared. A wendigo never sleeps and doesn’t mind the light, it hunts in deep forests without mercy, it cannot be reasoned with in this movie the wendigo would’ve ate his kids with no care in they stayed true to the legends. Also, wendigos have power to manipulate your mind to make you image things that aren’t their. Like making you sleep walk into their lair for them to eat you. They have super healing and any damage done will heal when they eat. The wendigo “virus” is super contagious like with a werewolf a single scratch will turn you. They do not hunt in packs they are solitary creatures.
    To put a legend against a legend, a skinwalker would fall to a wendigo 9/10.

    • @gigawattsfactory6777
      @gigawattsfactory6777 Год назад +4

      Fun fact: that depiction came from the melding of European settlers and native tribes storytelling to one another. The European settlers biggest fear were Werewolves and vampires, the depiction of a Werewolf at that time was much closer to what you’d see in the movie Dog Soldiers, or the werewolves in Skyrim, long toned slender limbs. A pretty typical werewolf as we know them. But eventually the Native tribes stories mixed with their new neighbors, and somewhere along the line the fear of “Men with antlers and gaping maws of teeth” Became the tale of what we know as The Wendigo.

      Depending on the tribe it's depicted with the horns of a deer or caribou. All have gaunt starved features stretched tight enough to reveal ribs and spine, hooves or long toe nails, long claws, blackened and sharp teeth, black splotches like a frost bitten corpse, and a deep aversion to cleanliness.
      The longer they live the further the transformation progresses. It's why ancient native tribes would kill anyone who was suspected of cannibalism asap. The longer the person survived the more their humanity would degrade until they would willingly eat their own tribe members.
