    Cake:
    200g unsalted butter, softened
    200g golden (or plain) caster sugar
    200g self-raising flour
    4 large eggs
    1 good tsp ground cardamom (seeds from approx. 8-10 pods)
    2 tbsp milk
    1/2 tsp rosewater
    Icing:
    200g double cream
    2 tbsp caster sugar
    200g cream cheese
    80g pistachio nuts
    Bake at 180°C for around 30min

      For the butter how many sticks of butter is that? Can I substitute half of butter for an oil? Like olive oil?

    this is a favourite cake, the blance of flavours is exceptional, i now bake this in a bundt tin and apply a pomegranate or rose gin icing to decorate

    I am so happy to have found you. I could watch your reviews at the end all day. Thank you for the recipe. I'm making it right now. I'm assuming self rising flour is just plain flour with some baking powder and salt in it.

      Yes self raising flour is plain with baking together

    I made this and it came out amazing! But I also added an extra tsp of baking powder like you do in your other recipes even though they have self raising flour. Is there a reason why you did not add the 1 tsp of Baking powder in this?

    A lovely recipe. Made this with less sugar and butter and no icing. Lovely cake to have with tea and so fluffy. I wonder can you make a muffins version with this recipe?

    I am annoyed with the youtube algorithm for not recommending this channel sooner! I was searching for pistachio cake recipes a week ago, and this just came up as a recommendation! I watch so many cooking shows but somehow Food with Chetna has never come up. Your recipes look incredible, your energy is stunning, and your videos look great!       You can use plain flour and add 2tsp of baking powder to it.

    I tried this with gluten free flour (rice-, lentil- and cornflour combo) and it was deemed very good. I used two toppings, dried Mango (could not get any fresh) and Pistacho. However my friends would prefer double cream only ;oD

    Could you mix the cardamom with the flour before putting it in the mixer to make sure you get an even distribution? Or is that even an issue with the spice?

      because the self raising flour already has baking powder mixed into it.

    I only have cardamom pods at home (green) - how many should I crush for this do you think? And should I roast them beforehand?

      clawtooth35 It’s best to wait for chetna to answer, however I don’t roast the cardamom if I’m adding it to a dessert. It kind of looked little about 10-15 pods. Try with 10, see if you have a teaspoon and then add more as needed.Hope that helps :)

      No need to roast them and you would need seeds from around 8 to 10 pods.

      My spice vendor told me he would always blizz the capsules and not use powder in bags because there is to much rubbish in there. He gave me something to compare and I agree: no comparision - always use pods.
