This style storm door design uses the protruding profile cylinder style. This was a clients lock I installed and they ordered the longer version (70mm) so it would be easier to grasp the thumbturn from inside. The lock is very close to their door jamb, so the longer version helped to be more comfortable. The protruding ends help stabilize the lock itself as it’s only held in by the set screw. If it was flush it could cause issues inside the door. This one could’ve been shorter, but again to make the thumbturn comfortable for themselves they chose the 70mm :)
