Best video ever! I love "oh shit corner" and have driven it both ways for the last 25-odd years. You capture the essence of the road so well!
What a name 😂
Very well done Saffy. I’ve done it three times and each time someone in the group “ dropped / placed “ their bike on the road. It’s not an easy road for sure but you did great, especially in winter. Well done again 👏👏.
I proper nearly cried 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Conquered your fears Saffy, I felt for you, well done. The more you do this the more relaxed you get on the bike and the easier it gets, but definately a good idea to do these difficult roads in the dry, warmer months. Steep and tight is one thing, ice on the road is another, and if you do go riding with others, don t ever let them push you beyond your limits. Cheers and enjoy.
Thank you so much 💓 this road really terrified me ahahaha
This is an important local east-west route in the Lake District. Although it is only suitable for a limited range of vehicles, its poor state of maintenance is scandalous. The alternative routes east-west routes are far longer and very inconvenient for local residents. Soon it will only be passable by fully tracked vehicles.
All these videos are enjoyable to watch. The notoriety of this road as a ‘challenge’ is creating a problem. If this road was fully repaired and maintained by the council it would reduce the attraction of the route to thrill seekers. I love this route, but it has become too risky for me to use.
First time I went here it was foggy and literally zero visibility. I almost got over taken by a cyclist 🤣🤣🤣. Did it again a few days later the views where amazing. 3rd time I did all the passes in one day. Its one of the most demanding roads I've been on and it's very addictive.
I was very adrenalined up, I won't lie
I thought I was the only one who self soothed and gave myself pep talks that I was going to be alright...It is lovely to know I am not the only one...my grandmother used to say that if you can walk yourself through a scary time, that you know you can depend and trust yourself. Never knew how important that would later become in my life. Beautiful location....
Nevet underestimate the power of words. If you believe you can't do something, just keep repeating that you can and you'll do it
@@SaffySprocketaq
I half dropped my bike on Hardknott, gave way to some cars and the front wheel slipped on some gravel right on that steep bend where you was coming down the hill at the end, I damaged my pannier on that big chunky rock/wall but managed to not fully drop it. My own fault, I didn't get on the back brake quick enough and I didn't spot the loose gravel under my front tyre. Winter is probably a good idea, in summer it is full of cars and campers!! 😂
Oh nooooooo, I was dreading thinking a car might come down when I was going up, I had absolutely no idea how I would have managed if it had
You get crazier by the ride . But I do love to watch your adventures . Take care ride safe ,Mal in Australia
God knows where I'll go from here 🤣🤣🤣
I admire your spirit Saffy. Don't forget, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Relived every minute of that. I must admit when you said "the worst is over", I thought, she's not tried the downhill bit, yet.
Much more fun, two-up, on a Wing, at night, in the rain. Not one of my best decisions ever.
Thank you for conveying the joy of motorcycling so clearly.
I can relate, went 2 up on a big old blackbird, I remember sheep in one of the fields, pulled over at the top and it is much easier going down, unfortunately, went in tourist season and the road was quite a tad busier.. Made it more scarier with cars bombing past on the tight bends.
I've been riding motorcycles for over 30 years. I've been a despatch rider and a motorcycle instructor. I've well over half a million miles on 2 wheels. I rode the Hardknott on a CBF125 in summer on a dry day. Still pooped my pants, it's a helluva road! Kudos to you.
It will make the strongest warrior cry like a little girl 🤣🤣🤣
I Rode this on Billy (my 24 year old bandit) last year. Loved it. Took it steady and enjoyed the view. Didn't have to defrost my bike first though! Did around 450 miles that day. Great channell Saffy!
That's some distance! Kudos!
14hrs your body mustve needed it Saffy, well done on the pass, another bucket list ticked for you
I could litterally sleep for 2 days straight if the world let me 😭🤣🤣🤣
Hi Saffy, I'm slowly working through your back list of videos, this one highlights who you are, riding until you drop, pushing yourself far beyond your own comfort zone, you are reminding me of my own love for riding somewhere for the first time, for the hell of it😋 hoping our paths cross one day 🥰❤❤
Why is it every time I watch your videos my hearts in my mouth. 🥶🥶
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Delightful video. Thank you. Your ability to giggle, laugh and smile your way through life is truly remarkable. PS Treacherous road indeed.
Thank you so much 💓 I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 🥰
I just came back from the Lake District today, been riding round them roads all weekend, such a lovely place
Congrats and a fab video.
The giggles and excitement are just soo infectious, don't change.
Drove it 1987 in an underpowered 1.3 Escort. What an experience but the roads were in better nick then.
Keep on rockin' Saffy.
Thank you so much 💓
Saffy, your videos are an inspiration to all us bikers out there. Not just the female riders but everyone! I came across your channel by accident and subscribed immediately. Please keep doing what you're doing and most of all enjoying the experience. I have a trip to North Wales planned in June, I'll be taking in Snowdonia mostly but I'd say nowhere will be off limits, except the off road tracks. At 54 years old this will be my first ever "tour" but I doubt it will be the last! Current owner of a 2021 Yamaha Tracer 900 and a 1990 Honda CBR600FL Benetton (that's the rare one with pink wheels, look it up) I'll try and film and edit the Wales trip, hopefully I'll get some good footage. Cheers 👍
What a wonderful message to get 😅 people say they feel inspired but I think it's the case that I'm more inspired by everyone's support
Fair play for riding in those conditions! I would have waited a good few hours for the roads to thaw, but I'm old!
Old is just a mindset ;D
Great video. You really were tired! Haven't done that road yet, but I am now intrigued now!
Dodging drones just might become a new sport ... unless bike is needed for back stop.
I just loved your short "cat nap" too.
Glad you had a good weekend out and about Saffy.
🤣🤣🤣 the nap that never ended
Well done you. I was exploring last year on my 125 ended up on this road didn't know where I was going and was afraid of running the tank dry. When I reached the end and back to the real world I had an unforgettable ride in my life. I didn't know what the road was untill this video. You dear are a nutter doing this knowing what you was getting your self into , not to mention in winter. My hat is off , well done
Ok, you tried to trim your hair with a drone, knocked your bike over in frustration because you couldn't be the first use a drone as a trimmer, and then found yourself completely worn out and slept for 14 hours. Then, yes then, you decided to tackle a difficult road in freezing temps because, well, you're Saffy Sprocket! Way to go! You are an inspiration to this old man. Why? because I'm still doing the things you do when my "competitive side", read stubborn, takes over. You are amazing!
In the late 60s I rode the Hardnott pass in a snow storm on a BSA c15 ss80 on my way to a party. Got there and it had been called off. Kipped on the floor and left at first light to travel home. Mind you the host made an amazing breakfast. They gave me a stack of sandwiches and a flask of tea for the ride home.
Your achievements as a relative novice are excellent. Keep up the great work Saffy 👍🏻🏍
Thank you :D
The difference in exhausted and hyper sleep charged Saffy reminds me of the durracell bunny adverts. Looks like you had a blast. You need to trust your skills and bike more.
Ahahhahaha litterally 🤣 a tired saffy is a proper grumpy Saffy
Well done Saffy that's a hard ride on the best of days
It nearly had me in tears I won't loe
Wow, this road looks fantastic.
It's really worth a visit :)
Been up and down those passes for years, first on my 125 and every bike since. Target fixation is a major problem I've seen following other bikers along there, they can't stop looking at where they don't want to go and end up going exactly where they don't want to (especially going down the hairpins). Helped one poor lad turn is bike around once as he thought it was impossible. Well done for doing it on your own and staying rubber side down.
I've been over Hardknott a number of times but never in winter. That's just mental.
🤣🤣🤣 stupid is as stupid does
Well done Saffy you deserve your coffee. I've done that road in a car, in summer and it was bad enough. Saffy & Rocket in perfect harmony, You are unstoppable. :)
Great entertainment you brave mad fool. At least you are learning about target fixation the hard way. Look where you want to go. If look at a wall or edge of the road, that's where you will steer. That's target fixation. Well done for giving it a go.
Yes 🤣🤣🤣 was pretty sure I was gonna loose my bike up that hill ahahha
Love how you laugh so much! Looks like CBT and MOD1 skills came in handy! :)
It does!
This road was 100% safe when it was properly maintained. At the current rate of decay it will soon revert to being a track only suitable for off road vehicles. Shame on Cumbria council!
It's not the only road that's falling into major disrepair in the lakes. Huge number of roads here are being worked on but they are just not keeping up. Maybe lack of manpower or funds. But really inconvenient for locals as much of the work is done with full road closures overnight and sometimes taking weeks to complete.
They talk at the moment of the over tourism in the canaries but having just returned from Tenerife it is pale by comparison to that in the national park. Perhaps an entry fee could reduce the numbers and fund the road repairs.
hello good morning Saffy be careful with the ice which is a lot but when it starts to rain best regards from Valencia 🙏 Spain
❤️❤️ I'm always careful
Ok 👍👌
Been on that road a couple of times on my bike, once from the west to east, then second time was east to west. Also been up and down that road multiple times in my car at 1am to 4am, on stargazing trips. Nice and empty at night, but the corners and drops come up super quick in pitch black 😂
Wow well done safely. You have a great sense of adventure keep it coming.
Thank you so much 💓
Seems like you did really well to me. I've only done it in good weather I think. I've done other passes up there in cloud/fog and rain and it is super sketchy, so fair play for taking your time and getting through it. If I had any advice, it would be to keep the revs up. Bikes prefer higher revs than cars, as a rule (motorway cruising notwithinstanding) so keep the gear low, the revs up, slip the clutch when you need to, and it does get easier. A lot of low-speed dropsies are from stalls, in my experience.
Well done to you, hardknot isn't for the faint hearted. Your doing great Saffy keep smiling n laughing...
Thank you so much 💓
The Lodge In The Vale, nice hotel I stayed here a few years ago, lovely views to. Also they do good coffee ☕️ 😁
I've never heard anyone laugh so much what a happy person you are nothing phases you ha ha 😘
Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛
I love 14 hour naps, definitely not a road to go on if you’re still tired, I’ve only been on it once doing a coast to coast from Scarborough to Seascale a few years ago, definitely got to do that again this year
Mega naps are the best kinda naps 🤣🤣🤣 and yes, the road will really tire you out. It's a great lesson in spot fixation
Thanks for a great entertaining video afain Miss Sprocket. That is a road I have yet to do, this year penciled in, but definitely during warmer times after watching that. Almost any road should be a doddle for you now....though care at all times please. I too have a few 'cat naps' whilst away, but 14 hours is a first lol, obviously needed. Looking forward to what hou have misplaced, next week. Ride safe.
Brilliant saffy.
I need to tick this one off this year.
Have u got a postcode or location to actually get to the start point, as I am struggling to find anything.
Many thanx for your entertainment
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It's very fun but you really need to approach the road with a "its a tough road, take it as it is, don't get frustrated" kinda attitude 🤣 irs the only way I stopped having a mental breakdown
Just watching your videos and it looks like you are frends with my frends on fb . Great videos . Wish I could get back to biking but I was involved in a very bad biking crash
Done this road a few years ago and yes it's horrendous on 2 wheels 💩 myself too but conquered it eventually.
Well done to you 💪🏻
Thank you so much and yeh it's a proper crazy road ahahaha
Hey Saffy, Great road and stunning views. Planning to take my Yzf1000R over to Ravenglass sometime this year, to visit a friend. Taking in the sights of The Langdales, Hardknott Pass & Wrynose Pass. Thanks for the ride out. Best wishes from the Lone Wolf in the lakes.
I've been riding 25 years and still debating that road in the summer lol , Awesome doing that in those conditions 👏
Honestly, go for it, be add crash bars 🥲
You are one Crazy Lady Hardknots pass in winter 🥶 lol 😂
I was shitting myself for you !!!
I Love 💗 how you keep pushing yourself !!
Loving your content very very inspirational
Very nice tour🌨️🏍️💃📽️ Good video👍
Thank you so much 💓
@@SaffySprocket Thank you dear🥰
I went over the side of Hardknott pass on my bmw and broke several ribs and an AVG helmet. My bmw was not financially viable to rescue, so I gave it to a local motorcycle shop so that they would rescue it for themselves and I wouldn't have to pay the police to do it...I can't believe you did that in those conditions, all i can say is well done!
It was about half a mile before you stopped.
You are a brave woman. Keep it up!.
Thank you so much 💓
Absolutely amazing and scary I was bricking it for you. You had me laughing again with your giggles nervous ones this time I think 🤣❤❤
I would have took one look at that black ice in the carpark & went back to bed till it thawed.....
Ahahahhaha adds to the fun
Shot over Wrynose and Hardknott the opposite way round from your route last weekend to test out my new bike. Definitely the most bonkers pair of passes in the lakes but the views afforded are always worth the trek over..
It's 100% worth a visit, tears and all 🤣🤣🤣
I love your heated gloves , I have the same pair :) I love your videos for the slight craziness and complete honesty. Love the sv650 too
Gebing are amazing aren't they
My first time on the hard knot pass was my first solo camping trip on my CBR650R at the time, fully loaded with panniers/topbox and all my camping gear , did 178 miles to caldbeck with no motorway, via the coast roads of the lakes, however on the way through it took me through the Wyrenose and then the hard knot pass b2b. Its one hell of a rode and definitely one for the crazy list. I was absolutely terrified when I was coming down and going up I was definitely getting more and more nervous the higher I got. Definitely needed a break after those passes
This road proper broke me 🤣 I was so close to crying 😢
I put a video on my channel last year driving over to Hardknot Roman Fort. It’s a lot steeper than it looks, isn’t it. That sharp left and right hand bend on the way down. If you look straight ahead you can see the fort on your video. You should have stopped. It is awesome. Great video.
Honestly, the camera doesn't do it justice!
@@SaffySprocket I raced bikes, solo and sidecar in the 70s. You become inured to speed, but coming down off Hardknot Pass with all the drop offs and pot holes really tested me and my cute little Fiat 500!
I did this and wrynose pass last week. I agree it’s not for the faint hearted. I was lucky just got stuck on the big down hill hairpin at the end but managed to get to the end in one piece and like you I’ll never be going back lol
The notoriety was largely achieved before the "modern era", back when car clutches used to burn out and some cars didn't have the pep to reach the top, loaded down with families and luggage. I remember my father turning around in his Austin A35 half-way up when he caught sight of the steep part. His next car, a VW 1300 Beetle sailed up it with no problems.
Fore all the tears, tribulations you've been there, done that and in one peace.. what a story to tell.. now if I could say I'd been there as yet.. :
This reminds me a bit of a ride I did on my Inazuma from Little River (which is at 8m elevation) over Saddle Hill, which reaches 797m and down to Wainui at sea level. Only 22km with roughly half unsealed, but amazing views, initially over Lake Forsyth, the into the valley. Once over the top there are spectacular views of Akaroa Harbour.
Well done you!
At times l thought l was watching that bit in When Harry Met Sally you were so excited lol!
Won’t be taking the the Harley up that thank you, the roads around West Yorkshire are tight enough for me !
👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣
We drove the Hardknott Pass on a rainy day in Sommer 2023. However, it was absolutely no major problem. So we think the many stories about it's danger are more a myth than reality.
ruclips.net/video/cQqTfPwdS5U/видео.html
I have been twice and my favourite pass being rhynos pass. When I did hardnot pass last time I was 2s up on a zzr 1400 with wet roads. Definitely a road to enjoy in the dry tho! The lake district has to be my favourite place to take the bike no questions asked
The lakes is my home area, it always feels so strange to visit home
It's a dream for me to move there 😍 one day maybe
Great to see you taking the challenges on saffy be very proud of yourself. Keep her between the ditches hope you have a name for your bike.Take care of yourself. DAVID YAMAHA 🏍🏍
No such a thing as a 'dangerous road' Saffy, it's static, easy to see and harmless!
The only danger is from bad driving/riding.🙊
Then the road must be exceptionally dangerous 🥲🤣 because my driving is awful ahahhaah 😌💅
@@SaffySprocket 😂
Well done. Some cracking scenery again. You really looked exhausted at the start
I was super tired, but nothing a 14 hour nap can't sort 🤣
Love your laughter 😃.
Not the easiest road for a new rider. For experienced riders it’s a great ride with amazing scenery . Best ridden in daylight with good visibility. At night in poor weather it’s a dull slow ride.
Great video, Indian Chieftain Ltd rider, but I did the Hardknott in my self build campervan! Interesting 😂 it’s on RUclips
Oh man, I'd love to do a campervan build
it's only dangerous because the council up there are useless, I slid out on asphalt around a left bend, cars were sliding on this stuff going up the hill, the attending officer said to me, that less than 24 hours earlier, another motorcyclist went off in the exact same place as me, council hadn't cleaned it up, copper gave me all the details, the council then paid all damages to the bike, clothing and myself for time off work. Nice vid Saffy
i live there , the problem with hardknot is too much use , and road can get loads of run off so gets gravel ect between rain showers
also there is worst roads in the area but not known by tourists
@@spikeccx this is the problem - people don't get that the runoff goes down the road surgafe and takes a lot of gravel with it. I think that's why it's so corrugated and there are a coupe of potholes too. It's a very minor road so it's not reasonable to expect the council to be there after every bit of rain. people need to take care.
Well done Saffy, much kudos on that run. Did it in summer and Autumn with sun and then rain and that was bad enough. Your sheer excitement and love for what you are doing is worth every watch. I see you are up my neck of the woods on your insta so looking fwd to those vlogs. Keep it real gal 👍😎🏍🏴
Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛
14 hours sleep. What I would give for 8 hours solid.
Stay safe
I usually only sleep 6 🤣 I was very tired
What camera are you using? It shows the steep gradients far better than most do.
GoPro5, I don't think it shows the incline anymore than normal, it's just this was triple incline ahahha
Saffy, you really need to invest in a cover for your bike to stop that frost covering it. That road looks crazy.
I do have one! I just don't usually carry it travelling because I travel to travel as light as possible
I really hate the phrase "dangerous roads" unless the road is prone to earth quakes then the road isn't dangerous. It's usually "user error" because of not riding to the conditions etc.
I didn't give it the title 🤣 I merely adopted it
@@SaffySprocket ha ha. I know.
A great vlog saffy stay safe and ride safe lovely..
Thank you so much 💓 glad you enjoyed the video 📹
@@SaffySprocket no worries lovely take care
Talk about chucking yourself in at the deep end 🤣🤣 Mad as ever but keep riding and enjoying it 👍
🤣🤣🤣 wait, there's a shallow side to biking? No one told me
@@SaffySprocket yep. It's called controlled diving but each one to his or her own mind 🤣🤣
Lol,your the hardest biker I've ever known....ur a nutter saf......total respect 🤟👍🤪
I try 🤪🤪🤪🤪
Downhill is always scarier IME LOL. Well done, Kid xx
Honestly ahahha and Thank you :D
I have been over Hardknott.... no problem really....but....I was in my Landrover !!!!
I reckon it would be a fun ride in a Can-am
Good job Saffy, try doing west to east next time, the last two turns are interesting 🤣. I did it 2 days ago but it was sunny and not freezing like your trip
Did you have a mental breakdown like I did 🤣
@@SaffySprocket no, although my buddy did and binned his bike, leaving us to get it upright and crack on, but all was well 👍🏻
That road looks like I'd enjoy it on my Multistrada 1260 Enduro, but your bike doesn't have automatic suspension adjustments, so no wonder your back is feeling, well done
On a trip to the French MotoGP a number of years ago a mate left his glasses on top of the fuel pump and rode off, got about a mile worryingly before noticing ! Well done 👍
Oh wow!
well done Saffy
Thanks !
Well done doing that ride saffy not alot of riders would do that road 😊. But just wondering where did you get you windscreen from, looking to get one for my bike
You are mad young lady... I love it !!😄
🥰🤣🥰🤣🥰 thank you so much
That section at 12:25 is bloody awful, you really did well 👏
Thank you so much 🥰
What did I learn from this video? Saffy is cold. Really cold. It’s freezing. It’s cold. Oh and look, a dangerous, windy mountain road! Oh it’s also really, REALLY colllllllddddddd! 😂
ahahahahahhahaha yeh
I know it's an old vid, but well done, now i have to do it
"Downhill is easier" lol could have fooled me I'd have filled my shorts going down that 😆
Such a cute happy smiley woman who rides I would love to find someone like that
Thank you so much and glad you enjoy the channel
@@SaffySprocket very much so my daughter is only 12 and she wants to start riding I will be introducing her to your channel your an inspiration to you women
I felt like that when I first did it :)
🤣 it's been long enough that I'm contemplating attempting it again
@@SaffySprocket I think it's on par with Beallach na Ba that leads to Applecross in the highlands. I did that again with a pillion a couple of years back and felt incredibly OOer, if you know what I mean. The difference is that Applecross has a lovely campsite and a wonderful pub, not to mention the beautiful peninsular itself.
Hey saff, should think of getting a bike cover with all that frost love
I have one! I just don't usually take it on long road trips
Fair does Saffy you don't do things by halves. Totally fearless
🤣🤣 some say fearless, others say mad as a hatter
@@SaffySprocket You have to have a good helping of the later to be the first. In the words of Captain Jack Sparrow when accused of being mad "Thank goodness for that, 'cause if I wasn't this would probably never work."
Rode honister and hardknott yesterday actually
Yeh? How did you find it?
Oh Saffy, my wife and I do love your vlogs. Riding when tired and on icy roads is a worry though. We do have a problem hearing when you whisper when in your hotel rooms even when I turn up the volume. That Hardknott Pass looks a hard ride in the cold icy conditions but you seem to have enjoyed it. Looking forward to your next episode of your crazy riding.
Cool ,
Thanks!
