I, too, love God and my country. Am a United States Marine and am just now after almost 50 years seeking help from VA. This young man is not telling anyone to be dishonest, he's simply trying to do what the VA should have done by educating soldiers.
Exactly, he's just showing the VA language you have to use. They're not there to help you. You have to get the help yourself. Without videos like this you'll just keep getting denied.
It’s funny how people quietly move along as their fellow Veterans suffer, while not getting all the benefits they deserve. The second we start taking full advantage of our benefits those same people who were willing to watch you suffer now have a problem.

I've just gotten tired of dealing with the VA.
@2326TX I feel your pain. I got tired of the VA basically telling me that I'm a liar. Denied my back pain but pumped me full of hydrocodone for 15 years for said pain. Kicking that addiction was painful.
They granted me 30% for migraine, 10% gerd, 70% ptsd, 10 tinnitus, 0% bilateral hearing loss.
If you said on your c&p exam that when you get the migraines episodes you can't work it should be rated at 50%
10 percent GERD? What is that?
How long did it take?

💯 P&T vet here. Find yourselves vet friendly doctors to get the evidence you need guys and girls. I’ve had a couple docs that once they learned I was a vet they offered to write up whatever I needed to help me with my claims. Learn about your conditions and study the DBQs and rating criteria for your conditions so you are prepared for the questions you’ll be asked at your C&P exam. Be proactive. Nobody else can do what’s best for you and your family except you.
yup.. The more appts u go to the better.
Colby, very wise advice my friend, you’re on fire 💯
How to find vet friendly docs?
Yess, shop around for doctors. I finally found one that was also a vet, he referred me to specialists and we are still working on it. I had another doctor that said that he doesn't care about the VA.
@@vaclaimsacademy Hello my first time Filing do you help with that and no doctor to write something for you?
Thank you this is a game-changer for me. I have been procrastinating for 20 years in getting a rating. Hadn't even applied for benefits until I almost died in 2018. This video convinced me. I'm sure we'll be in touch.
You earned it and deserve it, Veterans faith in God. Integrity of serving for the Glory of God. God Bless America. God Bless You
I'm a VET at 70% pension. Not everything you claim with the VA will give you a compensation increase. The VA is real good for accepting your service connected claim and giving 0% !!
Bang on Chuck
Yep. They gave me 0% for sinusitis (PACT Act) with an effective date in the future. 🤦🏽♂️
First appeal resulted in 10% with the effective date of the second C&P exam 🤦🏽♂️.
Currently pending second appeal. Should be 30%, effective 8/10/22.
Sinusitis is so bad I need surgery and I’ve got headaches secondary at 50%. 0 or 10% for sinusitis is a joke.
But thanks to this channel and others like it, veterans have the tools we need to get what we deserve.
I’m also service connected in one knee, ankle and big toe. But I’ve got back issues in my VA records since 1994 (plus podiatry notes referring to misalignment to lower extremities and antalgic gait).
I watched the videos on THIS channel about getting back issues connected and filed a claim this month. Went to the C&P exam a couple days ago and was fully prepared.
BIG thanks to this channel because this claim could get me to 100% (if the rater does their job correctly)! 👊🏾
I know every vet’s situation is different and it’s a shame that we have to fight abroad then come home and fight the VA.
But if you’re suffering and know it’s because of your service, keep fighting. I’m assuming that’s where services like channel this can help beyond the videos.
Get to know the law (38 CFR…) that covers your condition. Then download and go through your medical records to build a body of facts that pertains to that/those law/law(s).
Then state the law and facts in your statement so it’s preserved through appeal. Then submit your claim.
Afterwards, download the DBQ for your condition. Fill it in yourself. Bring it to your C&P exam and refer to it (and your statement) during your exam. The doctor is taking everything you say and filling out that exact same DBQ during your exam.
They’re counting on you to give up. Don’t. Keep fighting.
Exactly. The gave my husband 0% for vertigo and 0% for feet fungus. 9 others they rejected.

15 years service. 2 tours to Iraq. Many years of loud noises, had a hearing profile in my medical records for years. Definitely ringing i my ears all the time and terrible hearing.shoulders, lower back, hips, neck hurt all the time. Wife tells me I have been super angry since getting back From my last deployment. If you are like me you just sucked it up and tried to make it to 20, that and at the time never wanted to say anything at the VA because you have friends who lost limbs or got blown up over there and in your head you felt wrong for doing so. Between all that and having sleep apnea who knows where to go from here. I feel like my body is aged double my actual age but I was never the guy who tried to go to the doc and complain all the time

VA blew me off in 2000 after 22 years for tinnitus. Told me they provided hearing protection. Damn tinnitus is annoying as hell and getting worse. I need to go back.
The military is full of nasty high pitched and low pitched noises that can go around their shitty ear protections. I know helicopters, especially Apache, have a ridiculously penatrative high pitch that can only be blocked fully by the giant ear muffs, which are obviously not always available. Military acts like the “protection” they gave us was 100% fool proof. Clearly bs.
Please revisit this! Get a VSO or someone else to help if you have to. There is no way they should have denied you for this! I hope you can somehow get back pay too.

@@fatratz2012 Yea thanks Steve. I did go back and got 10% and hearing aids that are supposed to attenuate the ringing. They don't really work so I guess it's just something I have to live with.
Get an evaluation by a dentist. It is not always about direct damage to the ears. It can be related to the jaw for example TempoMandibular Jaw syndrome (TMJ) . Similarly Ear Nose and Throat specialist. It can be related to sinuses. At VA if you need but you can see any specialist you want. Also mine got really loud after a Stroke. It can be brain damage rather than ear damage. Ear protection therefore will not prevent all cases of tinnitus.

Wow I suffer from tinnitus for years, can’t sleep because of it and have severe headaches, but never thought of the tinnitus as a cause for my headaches
Yes sir, there’s always paths to the target 🎯
I've been denied for a tinnitus claim, they did a hearing loss test and put some contraption on my head that wrapped behind my ears to test as well. I don't think they are just making this as simple as we think.
There is no test for tinnitus. You either have ringing or not. If you have ringing then your claim is solid. They can not deny you.
They denied me.@@gazopaul
Don’t know anyone that’s been denied yet. @@gazopaul
I too was tested for tinnitus and was denied; the test was a generic hearing test.
I was just denied... cause there was no complaint when I was in the service... the word never existed when I was in and when I got out....I will appeal with a personal letter, hopefully this will work
I was an Aircraft Armorer when I was active duty. I was checked for hearing loss and tennitis. They confirmed the hearing loss and tennitis and said it’s not service connected.
How?
@@itguru2037 Because they can
The VA gives me free hearing aids that cancel out my tinnitus yet the VA has denied me a claim for hearing loss and tinnitus.
same , free hearing aids but they dont help the tinnitus , gave me 10% for tinnitus and zero for hearing , even though the hearing loss is in line with hearing loss for my job . I was Navy and I can tell you after 12 years sea duty , any one from Navy has hearing loss period ..
Yikes
No amount of "hearing aids" are going to "cancel out" your tinnitus. Once you have it you are stuck with it for the rest of your life. If hearing aids take away the ringing in your ears you don't have it. I feel like I'm talking to a preschool class. Oh man!
@@stanatkins Rephrase for all the captain know it all's.... The hearing aid drown out the tinnitus.
Whatever you care to believe brother.
I claimed both the headaches and tinnitus when I first claimed in Cheyenne, WY. They did test for it and denied me back in 2007 and 2010
They did a hearing test. With the beeps and the words you had to repeat back to the examiner. They likely didn't test you for tinnitus. And what does your denial letter say? Does it say you were denied because you don't have these things or were you denied because you didnt provide the nexus to the event in service that caused the issues? Its likely they denied you because they said it wasn't service connected, not that you don't have these issues. Reread the letter.
There is no "test" for tinnitus. Either you have it or you don't.
@@stanatkins VA does a hearing test anyway... Battle buddy put in for it. I didn't understand the purpose for the test tbh but they made him do it anyway.

What veteran attorney did you use ?
@@gr82bloved43 Kenneth C Kieran at THE VETERAN LAW OFFICE …. Didn’t take long I was at I started at 60% , then they got me to 80% now we just working on that 100%
60% gerd is a hard claim to obtain and would require much gastrointestinal distress. 70% MH + 50% Migraines + 30% Gerd alone brings a veteran to 90%. Tinnitus would be 91% thanks to a 10% rating. 70% MH is achievable but a high bar. Alll veterans should file for what they deserve. Examine your med records for your max benefit and consider things that have affected your life.
Thanks for the comment Jordan, 60% for GERD is actually pretty easy, barely an inconvenience. This is because 2 letters in the regulation; “OR”.
“Symptoms of pain, vomiting, material weight loss, and hematemesis or melena with moderate anemia; OR other symptom combinations productive of severe impairment of health.”
Severe impairment of health clause is the loophole. Everyone who has GERD has severe impairment of health. If the VA wants to be caught and ambiguous, two can play at that game.
The average mental claim here after VACA gets awarded 70% reliably, again not difficult at all really. It’s difficult when you don’t know precisely what you should be saying. It’s all an open book test, the VA tells you exactly how they rate you. I simply don’t ignore that invaluable Intel.
Also, run the calculator again, unless mine is broken, 10 tinnitus, 70 SSD plus 50 migraines gets you to 90. 60 GERD puts you to 95, rounded up to 100 compensation level. Cheers
@@vaclaimsacademy How does the VA test for Gerd and will a Nexus with the correct symptoms get 60% ?
From my experience, there’s no real test for GERD, often times it’s diagnosed based solely on symptomatic reports from the patient. Yes, a diagnosis, nexus or service connection, and a bulletproof personal statement
@@vaclaimsacademy Interesting. I just ran the calculator, 70 SSD, 50 migraines, 60 GERD, and 10 tinnitus get a veteran to 95% which rounds up to 100. I just haven't heard of anyone actually getting 60% from GERD. Usually see 10% or 30%
@@JordanLambo369 Agreed, the majority of vets submit suboptimal claims using “free” services that completely ignore the existence (let alone the importance) of lay evidence.
The chances of a doctor writing in your file that you are having a severe impact to your health is low, and even if they DID write that in your notes, the chances that the VA rater is going to read those notes is low.
The difference between a 30% rating for GERD and a 60% is almost entirely made through a bulletproof personal statement. That’s why it’s such a valuable document.
I’m working with a handful of VSO’s and accredited agents who come to me for coaching and I’m stressing to them to get their vets to write personal statements. I just want to scream it from a rooftop sometimes how 15-25 minutes can impact your household’s quality of life forever
Someone needs to explain to soldiers airmen and navy to get copies of their health records as things happen that they keep and maintain. Statements from friends as they happen. Especially Xrays. My records disappeared as things happened more than once and the military and VA will not acknowledge the broken neck with a replaced bone as service connected. It is a shame that we need to be proactive all along but tell your friends and family to share that information with young service members early. Thank you that was very helpful and I need the help because everyone here near Ft. Bragg/Liberty has been cagey. 1984 broke the neck while playing softball with the unit if I had known I needed statements the colonel himself would have done so.
Tinnitus is the easiest to win, yea right. I did the self-statement on va form 21-4138 lay statement, and a c&P exam the examiner acknowledged that I had Tinnitus, but found no direct link in my service record. I did a supplemental claim VA form 20-0995 and uploaded medical documentation in my service file where a ✔️ box was done for hearing loss, but it was for Tinnnitus. I even explained that in my laystatement. I also pointed out on my mos that I was exposed to loud noises or what is called Acustic Trama, because I was always working around diesel engines and side load warping tug. Denied x2 times. Here I am round 3 on a Tinnitus claim that a C&P examiner gave me a less then 50 percent because they could not directly find the link in my service record files. I could use some help on this claim im not sure what im doing right or wrong. In the decision letter it stated laystatements could not be used as medical evidence. That my self-statement If
It’s true, lay statements are not medical evidence, they’re lay evidence. To me it sounds like they want an IMO (Independent Medical Opinion)
@@vaclaimsacademy I got my hearing test and 10% rating, because I told my primary care doctor I could barely hear him over the noise in my ears. He whispered to me and I did not hear his whisper, so he got my hearing exam at the VA hospital in Leavenworth. Is there a disability for macular degeneration? My doctor also sent me down for eye diagnostics when I told him everything below the center vision was blurry. I was diagnosed for armd in both eyes ( my dad ( a WWII vet) went blind for 25 years from armd and died in 2018) and in 2021 when my meds were late being delivered to me my left eye went from dry to wet macular and I have received shots in that eye every month since to present day.
My, you are making this a lot harder than it is. Tinnitus IS the easiest claim to win unless you make the process harder than it is. The maximum is 10 percent and there is no exam to determine tinnitus. It's your word against theirs. You are putting in a lot of work for 10 percent.
Migraines denied several times They did a 5 minutes ace exam and denied claim in 1 day from migraines secondary to tinnitus. I've been diagnosed with migraines take meds for seen neurologist numerous times. Finally had vso send it in for appeal which will now take years Headaches and migraines hard to win
Headaches are not hard to win, you’re making it difficult on yourself. Using a VSO to file an appeal is a terrible strategy in my opinion, did you submit a bulletproof personal statement and migraine journal with your claim? If not, you just need a supplemental claim, and stop trusting “free” help, it’s costing you thousands
Did you consider a HLA? I’m in the process of going migraine secondary to tinnitus. I didn’t like seeing this. Very disheartening.
I wouldn't say he's making it hard on himself. I submitted a migraine claim, buddy letters from everyone including my then commander stating what I went through. Had medical evidence showing I had migraines, had them since being deployed, had evidence I was being seen for migraines since being in service. Then submitted several years worth of migraine logs, proof of medical exams, neurologist visits, injections, etc. VA came back and said they agreed I have migraines but don't agree to them being service connected. I've now been sitting in appeal for 2 years. Evidence, nexus, link, letters, etc the size of the LA phone book, still denied. The VA sometimes is just that bad.
@@nickusmp same, I have migraines in my medical records, been diagnosed probably 6 times, take medication prescribed by the VA, and miss work at least three times a month. Had my job submit multiple official statements (we are a major defense contractor) and still got denied. Doing appeal now. Keep fighting brother, Semper Fi.
@@nickusmp You’re damn right about that Nick. If you have everything perfect on your end, then absolutely, you can chalk it up to the VA being awful at what they do. Everything has to be right on our end first though.

What you say in your video and in the real world of VA claims is totally different. I tried to clain Tinnitus and was denied after a claims hearing test where I have Tinnitus. The VA said where my hearing test going into the military and the hearing test exiting the military was the same. I never had a hearing test the entire time I was in the military. I was a M60E3 gunner in Desert Storm on the front. I have hearing damage from the war and while in service. It is NOT a easy claim to win.
Try again. It really is relatively simple. Your rater was wrong. Your hearing test has nothing to do with Tinnitus or ringing of the ears. Good luck
I had to wait 50 years to get a 100% disability rating and I had to be terminally ill ….. dying !!. Yup … entered the Navy in 1972 ,, and in 2022 , I was treated for Triple Hit, Stage 4 DLBCL with horrific symptoms of Cachexia, Ascites and Edema. If you don’t know what these are look them up.
A good personal statement will get you the 10% for tinnitus but, it probably won’t help you climb the ladder. You WILL need a diagnosis and nexus letter to get the rest which will cost you unless you have a doctor that will assist.
just go to the VA for everything.. If you have 10% for tinitus go there for your migranes and keep a log and then file.. If your not making up lies, its not that hard to get what your supposed to...

Tinnitus is not a sure thing. Even though I was in the Gulf War, and in the Marines for 20 years, I was denied for my tinnitus. Ok, not so fast on the tinnitus is a slam dunk. I have tinnitus horribly, and being in Aircraft Maint on jet aircraft with 8 engines, and powered ground equipment running at full blast all day, with no muffler, plus aircraft taking off and landing, as most of the time we were pulling maint next to the runway, at a time when we were launching 144 bombers a day for months, I was denied tinnitus due to hearing loss. I now need hearing aids, at the age of 70, due to moderate to severe hearing loss. And for a time. And at times I get severe headaches, to the point I have to go get an injection for pain or to make the headache tolerable. I've seen a Nuerologist, and the headaches I have suffered from are Migranes. He has no idea why I was getting migranes. Yup I was denied tinnitus, 4 years Air Force Maintaining B52 bombers.
Frequent headaches can get you up to 5% increase. Focus on the migraines as a result of the tinnitus.
I worked around turbine powered helicopters for 10 years and I was denied service connection for tinnitus
Thanks for sharing!!! 'Us' Vietnam Vet dummies---denied for decades because we did not do it smartly
Such a great generation
Well said.
@pastormiketwoable wrote, "Thanks for sharing!!! 'Us' Vietnam Vet dummies---denied for decades because we did not do it smartly"
You are NOT a Vietnam Vet dummy. You served during a time when smartphones, home computers, and the internet didn't exist. You also served during a time when men went rarely went to sick call and did so only when they experienced great bodily pain. Also, you were considered lucky if when you went to sick call your doctor visit was recorded in your medical files. You also didn't have easy access to, and information about, the VA Disability system. Today's service members go to sick call for everything little thing, they get all their doctor visits electronically and instantly recorded in an online medical records database, they have RUclips videos telling them exactly how to get 100% VA disability not soon after ending their active military service.
Nam vet, combat and still stuck at60% VAdoes not work the same for every vet
I have Tinnitus & Hearing loss . Was denied Migraines even with 2 Nexus letters . So, I appealed with a supplemental and added 2 more Nexus letters , Brain scan that showed damage and neurologist wrote letter saying damage is due to acoustic trauma I experienced on Active duty. If I get denied again then there's a scam going on.
Make sure you also turn in a bulletproof personal statement attesting to the incident that caused the acoustic trauma during active duty and it should be a slam dunk
Great video, new sub here. I am an 80yo Vietnam Vet, I hope I'm not too old! Agent Orange has caught up to me. And I flew Hueys and other helicopters.
I have all of these. My tinnitus and headaches even cause vertigo. I take blood pressure med, cholesterol med, PTSD med and it’s all prescribed by my VA doctor. My mental health now is at the point where it’s hard for me to hold down a job for the past 15 yrs. On top of that all of the medication I’m on has given me GERD. Are there any organizations that can assist me in filling out a claim for all of these? I currently have a 0% rating for a service connected disability for my foot. I feel so cheated out of all of this compensation. I hope you can either help me with this claim or point me in the right direction to get assistance.
Thanks for the info. I was around jet engines and guns for my entire career. I had my hearing baseline reset 3 times just to pass a flight physical. I have bad tinnitus and have started to get headaches because of it. Thanks for the info!
I'm waiting on a decision for headaches now. I filed in 2012, denied. Trying again, wish me luck.
Hoping for the best April, if you get denied again don’t be discouraged. All you need to do is spend 20 minutes writing a bulletproof personal statement to really tie the claim together
Gerd from anxiety is the worst.. I have learned to just focus on your breathing all day long to help not trigger it.. Not even just the reflux..it will eat your teeth over time..its not something to mess around with..unless you want to lose your teeth..i have enough issues not trying to add to it
Thanks for that insight SpaceRanger, definitely deserving of the hefty 60% from the sounds of how negatively it can impact one’s health
Keto and fasting can fully eliminate GERD for alot of people.
I was recently approved Tinnitus, however I did not know about other connecting things that go with this condition. I think I need help going forward with other claims associated with Tinnitus. The mental issue, I was awarded 70%
As of December 2023 Tinnitus claims are being changed, because so many people are claiming this !
I'm thinking the VA watches these videos on how to be the system !
Outstanding video. I tried the same thing but the VA keeps telling me that there is no medical link between tinnitus and migraines in my c&p exam. I am working on my 2nd appeal now. Actually it was an ACE exam.
Tell us how that goes pls. Need to know
Same result.... not service connected even though my doc says it is.
The VA has been giving me anti-acid medication for years. The VA Hospital says I have GERD. Is this worth anything at age 64?
I’m a yr and a few months out and good thing I started all documentation last year
I wish I knew about this 3040 years ago it would have helped me a lot thank you
Never too late George!
Immediately, i was sent to an auditory lab for my c&p exam and was denied.
Sorry to hear that Bryan, it happens. I was denied a service connection for Tinnitus even though I was diagnosed during service because “I wasn’t experiencing hearing loss”, sometimes the VA likes to make things up as they go
Had anger problems in the Marines but all my write ups were short term, got to the national guard and they wrote me for Behavioral issues. I'm at 80% even though my total adds up to 90, breakdown is 10 tinnitus, 10 foot fungi, 70 PTSD
What do you mean by foot fungi? I have something similar
@@p.bi1179 Tinea pedis, bilateral feet. That's what it's under for me
I had anger issues the day I enlisted. What kind of PTSD 70% do you get in the national guard. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just curious. The VA math doesn't add up. Best of luck to you.
@@stanatkins like I said I had it cause the Marines but never got written up nor did they let me see a doctor, because the NG was slower they actually did take action
Thank you so much my tinnitus is getting so bad the VA docs are just telling me no cure ad take two aspirins and call me in the morning not sure how to go about this but I'm gonna try..
Don’t give up my friend. Victory awaits
@@vaclaimsacademy How? ive been dealing with the VA for many years its to the point that I can hardly hear any more they keep blowing me off and the noise is getting so loud youguys make it sound so easy but its not when you don't have some walk you thru it why do you think the homeless number of vets is so high nobody towalk us thru it you are telling us about it but not walking us thru it you guys understand that?
I wish I knew about these benefits 41 years ago!
I'm 60% for diabetes and 70% for PTSD. I recently went to the VA for tinnitus and inability to sleep from ringing and they gave me a machine to put on my pillow that' basically white noise. That was a few months ago and I never submitted a claim. However, I have an upcoming pcp appt because of migraines and GERD. Should I file all 3 as secondary to PTSD, or do I file tinnitus alone with migraines secondary? I just want to approach it in a logical way. I also thought about GERD secondary to diabetes because of being on insulin for 12 years, but idk if that's as strong of a link as PTSD. Or maybe GERD would be secondary to migraines because of constantly popping excedrin. Idk the best approach
I have been dealing with the VA for several years, and I have never heard of GERD. Is it a gulf war thing?
Great information. Any ptsd ,anxiety ,racism, sexual assault, depression issues have high percent ratings. Also flashbacks and sleep apnea
Only if racism, sexual assault and depression are in your military records. Racism? I'm white and had a black drill sergeant yell at me and it depressed me. Does that count?
Great stuff! Thx.
Thanks BullRanger
Thanks for the video. Very informative and easy to follow. Here’s my situation: I honorably discharged in 1983. When I was stationed in Germany, I was ordered to spray paint military vehicles using special paint called Chemical Agent Resistant Coating, also referred to as CARC. The VA’s Health website has a designated section describing CARC and how exposure to CARC can be harmful. However, this article pertains to the Gulf War era vets who painted with CARC, not to the period of time or geographical location in which I served. Hence, I am not covered under the PACT Act. Nevertheless, the fact remains that I believe I sustained injuries of being exposed to the toxins of CARC. Additionally, the CARC used during the Gulf War was a water dispersed version, which is to say is was much less toxic than the version I was exposed to. (I verified this with documents I obtained via a FOIA request to the Army Research Laboratory.). For example, the version of CARC I was exposed to contained hexavalent chromium and lead, which are elements not contained in the version used during the Gulf War. During the time I spray painted with CARC, which was for a period of several week, I had direct dermal contact with it and I also inhaled it. I was not provided with any Personal Protective Equipment whatsoever. I currently have an active Intent to File with the VA, but I am holding off on filing my original claim for disability until I receive my military medical records, which I requested in Feb. 2023. I do not expect to find any useful information in my record, as I did not begin to shows signs of injury until after my discharge. Even then I did not piece it together until last year. I have made contact with two buddies who verified the CARC painting we did, so I will be able to submit their statements to show that we did, in fact, use CARC paint to paint the vehicles. Within the past 6 months I have visited my private physicians for various medical issues. Here are the documented medical diagnoses: 2 lung nodules, bibasilar acteletasis (collapsed lower lungs), allergic conjunctivitis, nasal polyps and cysts, severe sleep apnea (prescription for CPAP), migraines, tinnitus, and mild hearing loss. Because I frequently get migraines, fatigue, and a lack of motivation, I am hoping your organization can help me out. Every time I talk to the DAV they only seem to be concerned with getting me to submit my claim for tinnitus, but the other medical issues I have are more important to me. Below is a link to one of many news articles about all the CARC painting of US and NATO military vehicles, which resulted in toxic exposure related injuries, that was going on in Europe in the 1970s and 1980s. Thanks!

Hi Zack, you’ve got an uphill battle ahead of you. I would try an aggressive VA lawyer and if that doesn’t work, I don’t see much other flexibility to manufacture evidence
Zach, I have just finished filing my additional claims for the PACT. I was exposed to burn pits and other chemicals, to include the paint on the vehicles and equipment, I have been seeing many doctors about my headaches, dizziness, chest/bronchial pain etc., etc.
Here is what I have been advised by the gents in the VA Office. File, File, File and File again. DO NOT WAIT. I realize that you posted this one month ago, so you may not receive it, or not in time for the back pay, but I just went through the online filing program, and it was not that hard. You have a few boxes to check, and some VAMC or other medical facilities that you may have used address/locations to fill in. Believe me, they should have your records, the VA just spent millions and countless man hours transcribing and transferring ALL of our records into a brand new, easily searchable database. Heck, even if you start to file it and then put it on hold, at least you are eligible for one year's worth when, not if (positive thoughts) you get your rating.
TBH, I have never had any positive assistance from the DAV for myself, my grandfather or either of my uncles that I assisted before I was enlisted.
Throw the grenade and see what it hits. What is it going to cost you other than a little bit of time compared to the assistance you rightly deserve. Semper Fi.
@@jmackinjersey1 Thanks for the info. I’ll be filing my original claim ASAP.
The sad truth is that if it is not documented in military records, to the VA, it never happened. Don't give up.

I would love to talk to you sometime soon. Been going through a lot, going to the D.A.V., but not much has happened.
Yes, relying on free DAV to be experts is rough. The reality is that VA accredited orgs are beholden to the VA, not the veteran
I applied for disability due to tinnitus. I could not get my 10% rating until I got tested by a hearing specialist.
Once again, there is NO "test" for tinnitus. Hearing loss yes, but not tinnitus. If the VA tells you there is a test, they are lying to you. All you have to say is you developed it while in the military due to exposure to loud noise. It's their word against yours and you will win.
This is how va ratings work service member shaves butt crack gets for 50% for mental health 25% for limited mobility 25% for ingrown hair😂
So do they just deny Tinnitus out of hand? I was denied even though I can pinpoint the start to my time in Korea during a live fire range day, I fired off 9 AT4s plus about a thousand rounds of 5.56 belt out of my SAW. Lets ignore that after the Army I went Air Medical Evacuation in the AF. Denied claim. WTF
ringing in the ears does not work with the V.A , I been retired since 07, filed for an increase twice, didnt happen , I was lucky to get 60%
I’m at 70 ptsd and 10 for tinnitus….I have bent over backwards trying to get a higher rating and just can’t seem to get it ….I need help I’ll take help form anywhere!!! I live in Texas and my pc/the va I go to is in Kerrville …I would love extra help getting my rating boosted!!!
Your next step is to obtain your full service treatment records and comb through the diagnoses on there to see if there is anything left unclaimed
I dont think GERD is easy to prove either if you dont have it. I have GERD and good thing i did endoscopy when i was in the military, they found that my upper stomach is inflamed cause of the acid and i have acid damage on my teeth which also supports the claim and only got 30%. The trigger that made me do the test was because i was having stomachaches and diarrhea, they even did colonoscopy on me.
I am a veteran receiving VA medical care in connection with my service in Desert Storm. As such, I have a ZERO percent disability rating but have always received exceptional care from my VA - including treatment for a brain tumor. I am now 66 and in generally good health. To say I have ringing in my ears and headaches just for a payday seems entirely dishonest (although my VA doctor did recently diagnose my GERD).
Watching these videos I almost feel guilty for being healthy.
Please apply under PACT ACT for benefits... Brain Cancer is now a presumptive
I am a Vietnam Combat Infantryman and got a 0 rating for Tinnitus. I wouldn’t count on getting that %10 rating, the VA just said I needed Hearing AIDS.
Yikes!
Tinnitus does not require hearing aids. Hearing loss is completely different than tinnitus. Tinnitus rating is 10% if you file a claim connected to your service. Something not right here.
@@cgilbert56 you’re the first I’ve seen point this out. Idk how people automatically assume everyone with hearing issues is going deaf. My issues are that my ear drums are now overly sensitive and a hearing aid would just amplify the noise and make it worse.
@@jacksonrelaxin3425correct. Hearing loss and tinnitus are rated separately. Tinnitus does not affect hearing, just that buzzing or ringing sound we have to deal with. Mine is raging as I write this. There is no actual test for tinnitus so only need is for a Nexus to service, the connection to when serving which can be combat, MOS that is high on the list of probabilities that the VA maintains.
I have a 30% disability rating, of which 10% is actually Tinnitus, what should I do now?
I went to have my ears checked last week. The doctor said I only have “ normal “ hearing loss and nothing to worry about. She never addressed my ringing in the ear. Then she said we’ll watch and wait ! I said…. “ the hell you will ! ….. I want a hearing aid ! “ So she ordered me a hearing aid . Since I’m at 100% ,, I’m gonna demand they take care of me.
Hearing loss and tinnitus are two separate things. They can test you for hearing loss but there is NO test for tinnitus. It is impossible to quantify tinnitus and if someone tells you there is they are lying to you. You are already 100 percent so what are you demanding? The VA already takes care of you if you ask.. What do you want? 110 percent? NO hearing aid is going to cure tinnitus. Ask your local VSO.
VA turned me down for any medical benefits using their online system. I served 90-94 USMC and was in country in Somalia ( pulled combat pay) even sprained my foot there. They say I have no service connected issues so I don't qualify for medical. WTF
I’m sorry to hear that. Did you visit the doctor often? We’re you able to obtain your full service treatment records?
Congratulations on being healthy.
Jordan, thank you or your informational videos. how do I get my hands on the example letters that you mention. the personal statements in support of your claims. I had done one for my tinnitus on word, but I heard you say somewhere, don't use word. I'm planning on writing them for all my conditions. Navy 23 years of service.
Does anyone know if you have to prove that you didn't have tinnitus before serving, and if you need a doctor's backing?
If its not service connected.. you are not getting anything.. so I have tinnitus now.. does me no good
You got it
I'm a vet from the persian gulf war. How do I claim my benifits? I have tenitus and suffer from migraines. Any help would be appreiciated.
I am at 80% and have had migraines and gerd ever since I even got out of service. Would love your help.
Being at 80, there’s likely plenty of routes to go as far as secondary claims
I'm rated at 50% and I only get $1041. Why?
I have file for tinnitus and sent me to an ear test and the Dr sent in her report and I was denied..
great show thank you
Cheers Leonard
Really good video in theory, and the claims as mentioned can be achieved. However, according to the VA compensation chart for 2023 the 30% and 70% figures are different than in this video. Additionally, compensation rates are not cumulative. When multiple claims are approved, the highest claim amount is awarded. In this video example, the highest awarded compensation would be 70%.
Uhhh... they tested me for tinnius, including a bone induction test
I am at 90 %, I do have GERD and have been denied it even though the VA has me on Omeprazole (12 years). What are bullet proof statements?
Hi Mike, “Bullet Proof” is a buzz term I use to illustrate how we should do anything possible to exert our influence of the rating process; making our claim more resilient to VA screw jobs AKA “bulletproof”.
It means a high quality, well researched and strategically refined personal statement
Interesting I have made three claims of tinnitus and had a Army Dr said it was due to my service. VA still turn me down
The doc can say all he wants, get them to write it on paper if they really feel that way. Can’t stand when all doctors want to do is talk but won’t put a signature on it
Once you understand that the va disability system is a martyrdom based system not a functional/pain/employability system you’ll get ahead further
Ok so I've complained about Tinnitus since I was in. Everytime I went to see an ENT or another specialist, yes you have minor hearing loss, but we think the tinnitus is due to high blood pressure so let's change your diet. And that's the end of that. So how do I get step 1? And I had I don't even know how many MRI or cat scans (can't remember now) due to headaches when I was in the service.
Good luck with trying to connect headaches with tinnitus...I was a VSR, RVSR, and Coach over an 18 year period, never saw anyone get an extra scheduler attached to tinnitus. Just saying.
good afternoon, I am service connect with Tinnitus @ 10% for the last three months the ringing in my ears have gotten worse.I'm having the bad headaches some days I can't focus because they so bad.Can i file this with my Tinnitus?
I swear I have all these conditions no lie. I’m stuck at 80% and the VA has always denied me to get to 100% I need help.
Do I have to claim tinnitus while in the military or can I do it when I'm out already
I claimed tinnitus almost 40 years after I got out of the USAF and got it. They denied all my other claims but I got the 10%. Now I'm going after insomnia from the tinnitus - I haven't been able to get natural sleep in at least 20 years.
Great content, i am 10% tinnitus and was making a journal for headaches i deal with a lot. I am a Vietnam veteran living overseas now and was wondering if the va would accept a nexus letter from a doctor in a foreign country? Wasn't able to make an appointment in the states 😕 thanks for informative video
You know what John, you would really have better luck with a virtual appointment with a Stateside doctor to get you a nexus letter the VA will feel warm and fuzzy about.
But you could always try, there’s a chance the rater may not even notice since it’s so rare to get an overseas nexus letter
@vaclaimsacademy great, thanks for the quick response. I have GERD, Heart failure, sleep apnea, pacemaker, but difficult to get it service related since I've been out of the Navy since 1977.
