如懿跟太后对戏基本都很好看，两个影后级演员就是不一样
It's interesting to see that they're always mentioned that prince is more precious than princess. But when they should married off their daughter far away, they aren't willing and want their daughter keep close to them. Prince maybe has more beneficial politicaly than princess in political's perspective, but as son and daughter, they are all precious in their parent's eyes.
@Son Goku ツ Unfortunately, the logic behind it in the context of the culture surrounding it is somewhat sound. The sons stayed with the core of the family, and they and their wives supported the parents directly. The daughters, though, upon marriage to other families, moved away from the core of their own family to join the core of another's, and was generally only allowed to return to their birth family based on distance and financial support from their spouse and in-laws. Even the portion they were able to pay financially to their birth family was dependent on the good-will of their marriage family. Nearly all of the daughter's filial and emotional support was expected, by social custom, to move to her marriage family.
The son was an important political "tool" directly and the daughter was an important political "tool" indirectly. However, the sons stayed with their birth family (even going off to war for long periods of time, their *home* remained with the birth family), while daughters left, had to call another family "home", and only *visited* their birth family. Sons stayed family, while daughters, upon marriage, became familial guests.
Some families even treated their daughters as outsiders from birth to marriage for this reason - for the overly attached parents, it made the departure easier to bear when the daughter wasn't emotionally attached to her parents; for the under-attached parents, if the daughter is going to eventually be required to treat another family better than their birth family, what's the use of treating them well?
All of that, plus the regard of children's loyalty to their parents. It was often believed (truth or falsely) that because sons stayed with their birth family while daughters went to join their marriage family, that a son's loyalty would be firstly toward his parents, then toward his wife and children, then his wife's family; whereas with a daughter, they could never be certain (however culturally, the daughter's loyalty would be required to go towards her husband, husband's parents, or children - often interchangeably, and often inconsistently, from what I've seen in these dramas) with her birth family going last among all her relations).
And that's not even getting into the complex system behind the legal wife's birth children vs her husband's consort(s)' children.
