This is a small studio and I appreciate their continued support on this game. I am buying timelines regardless - just to help in my tiny way.
My thoughts exactly. This game has brought me hundreds of hours of enjoyment; talk about bang for my buck lol
Same here! So much fun for so many Hours!
Yeah I think they just made a perfect dlc and ran out of ideas and then decided to give us a lot of good qol stuff and story stuff and people aren’t for it because their riding the hype from kingdom end
Not me, love X games and own all previous games + DLC. However that doesn’t mean game developers get a free pass at making bad content. Being out of touch with fans doesn’t deserve unwavering loyalty.
same here 👏🤘
It's an immediate purchase for me. I probably won't spend much time on it despite having roughly 3000 hours in X4. I just prefer the sandbox mode and being able to play at my own pace. Happy to throw a tenner their way for support though! 👍
What really gets me about this game is it's 6 years old and I still often re-install it for a bit of a playthrough when I need a good, solid space game with a bit of everything. The best thing is it never really forces you into any of it, rather the sandbox element lets you be you in space. That really helps immersion. I look forward to a timelines run.
I'm definitely buying Timelines the moment it's available. I'm a mission runner. I like being given goals to chase so this is a perfect expansion for me.
I don't think this is for me. I prefer the sandbox and doing what I want to do.
I am not even crazy about the story elements of the base game as they drive me to do things I might not feel like doing.
This. And the free 7.0 Update will give you some new sectors. So it's worth to jump into the game again anyway, even without the DLC.
Sandbox gets tons of new stuff. Redesigned Cap ships, sectors, station interiors, NEW ENDGAME with research. It’s purty good
It is worth it. There a lot of game improvements (V7.0) and timelines is just the side-dish.
@@Hyperion1722ok so. You do NOT get access to the new stuff unless you complete Timelines. Major L from me. I personally had no interest in doing the glorified tutorial Timelines. However egosoft decided to force people like me to speedrun it in order to access the new stuff. It was boring and tedious and I could not wait to finish it already so I could head over to open universe and actually enjoy the game. They could have easily added Timelines to open universe and let it be part of the story as well.
@@seedbox7749 I haven't tried it yet but when I first heard about timelines, I was hopeful and expecting something like that. I thought it would be a new faction/questline that had you run through simulations of historic and hypothetical events. From everything I've seen and heard it seems this dlc could've been a good idea but it isn't implemented very well.
Thank you sir. Just bought the pack that has Timelines and a bunch of other expansions included. This helped me understand some things as I am brand new to X4.
I'm going to buy it just to show support for this studio's continued support for a game that I love. Egosoft puts out a quality product without the typical drama, microtransactions, or time limited content larger studios typically undermine their own games with. And they provide a game that is mostly in a genera of it's own, with content and game loops I enjoy. Money well spent.
Personally, I'm not really looking forward to the timeline portion. I mostly want the end-game crisis and the new ships. While 7.0 had the majority of additional balance and camera features I wanted. Again, money well spent.
From what I've seen, not hyped for those scenarios. But well, there are stuff to unlock, wich I'm not sure what are those yet, but probably I will have to play it to unlock them, or hopefully someone can make a mod to unlock them without finishing Timelines
Ill be showcasing the unlocks soon
What do you even unlock? Im stuck on a progression block on the 4th section and i went back to my samdbox and didnt find anything available
spaceships, sectors etc
I hope it adds a lot of stuff into the main game !
Thanks for the review
About the new player question: I think it is good for new players indeed. When you do first the tutorials, and then do timelines, the knowledge gained in the tutorials will be enhanced and practiced in timelines. After that, you are ready for most situations you can encounter in the open universe. (Also, the Terran Cadet start needs the Cradle of Humanity DLC).
Its better, but not the best. If you have CoH, you should deffo do that. Timelines does do well though, a major improvement
agreed 👍
What are you talking about? What new style of gameplay? What is this video about?
Timelines is Scenario based gameplay... instead of sandbox.
@@TheRuggedGamer If I read the original comment correctly and I share the same opinion, just saying Timelines is scenario driven is vague... are the scenarios based on the old X series story lines? If so do they chain together to reinforce X history? Does completing a scenario impact the open universe other than unlocking ships?
@TheKenworthys ive covered a lot of the scenarios on the channel, to give people a preview and an answer to that question.
In short, and spoiler alert, its got some past history that adds to the lore (for example, why Antigone Memorial is called such... you play the mission to try to defend it).
Unlocks are ships and decals I believe, but Ill be diving into that this weekend as I need to rip apart the rewards system.
@@TheRuggedGamer Thank you for the reply :) It's hard to have continuity from video to video from a casual viewer perspective. I do appreciate your content!
@TheKenworthys its no worries at all, ive no issues answering any questions :)
is it a hot take to wish to have the new ships in sandbox without unlocking them via timelines ? I bought timelines to support egosoft but i'm a sandbox player, not a competitive one
You dont need to compete. One star is enough to unlock stuff
Bought it, love it, despise the second mission cause the weapons suck on yer ship.. lol. Egosoft is one of two companies that supports their games for YEARS AND DON'T TRY TO RIP YOU OFF! The other is the creator of the Arma Series. Both great companies that put their customers first!! Been a supporter since x2 the threat.
A small studio that makes their games better over time because they try to do sooooo much in their games. If they EVER act like EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard or Microsoft and try too rip us off while smiling I would walk away and never look back. Thankfully they have not Acted like those scummy companies! Enjoy!
Bohemia interactive don't rip you off lol 😂 😆 that why there selling arma reforger for 25 quid and it's not even a game lol 😆
Thanks
I added it to my collection the moment it was released.
just picked up the game for the first time last week, good timing!
Every dlc for x4 is good, this is the only one for new players I would suggest not to buy right away, but its still very good, and adds many new aspects and things to the game for later. Its also a good thing for the devs to create and test things like AI, and more fleet combat updates and tweaks for all future updates as they teased fror 7.5 and 8. I think it was a large building block they needed to acheive in order to test things separately from my understanding in the dev notes, which is great. Massive upcoming AI, and fleet updates. Can't wait.
when will 8.0 and next dlc come? i've been waiting for some quality content since 1.0....
absolute yes!
While I love X4 for what it is, I'm really wrestling with whether or not this one is for me. The 7.0 update itself is great, but I'm yet to be sold on whatever timelines is supposed to be or add to the game for me. I want to restart a new game as Boron only, and nothing in Timelines will add anything to that from what I can gather. Also realllly struggling with the flat delivery of voice lines that are now still part of a new DLC, although some voices do sound a bit better like Harper, others are still so incredibly..flat, and if what Timelines was going for was more of a story telling route, then that's when you invest a bit more into how that 'feels'. A missed opportunity here might have been expanding on the first person gameplay to maybe enhance the story telling and immersion part, and adding new gameplay elements that way that can also have more of an effect in our sandboxes.
I agree somewhat with some of these points, as do others
$15 for replayability (leaderboards) and hours of content - more so than how long it takes to complete other games - is a good deal.
If it's not a story in the open universe then I will never play it, but I'm still buying the expansion.
I don't understand why my graphics in X4 look so much worse than the videos you display. What mods are you running? If the game actually looked this good it might be worth it.
I dont run any mods at all, just the highest level of graphics
If you are a long-time X player (for me since the first X-Beyond the Frontier), then this DLC is right up your alley, which is why I got the DLC as soon as it became available!
Got few negative review around it. Haven't play it yet.
so this doesn't add anything to the main universe? ill pass on it then they should have just integrated it to the main timeline like being sent to the past do mission then return to your own timeline with rewards like the DLC on fallout when you fought in the Alaskan War but make it better
it does add to sandbox, spaceships, sectors, etc
@@jh5kl sectors are always wort it i might get it then if it goes on sale i have my hands full on CK3 and Warband 2 anyway
Worth it? Of course it is.
😆 🤣
i support studio, but timeless for me is play once and forget. i didnt buy X4 to play Arcade shit, main game is sandbox and i will play there..... its my opinion.
The DLC brings life to X4 Foundations. And it works Great job!
This appears to be the first DLC I won't be buying. Sorry Egosoft, but I have to guide you with my wallet because that is at the end of the day, our relationship.
I fiind it funny how egosoft hyped this expansion to death and its prob the worst DLC they have made to date. They still havent bothered to fix dumb AI or late game bad performance. im staying away to those 2 major issues are fixed.
Every major updates comes with tons of AI improvements. When is the last time you played? 7.0 comes with much better AI. They actually chase you around and uses travel mode within their system if you are hostile, efc.
the update made some improvements but nothing added to the ship or station interiors which is aggravating me , that this game will ultimately be just another shooter game with that phony economy
To bad this thing is not in VR.
All they had to do was make this all available in the open universe like the rest of the story. I don't know wtf was in their mind. We all play X4 to watch our empire grow AND do the story if we want to and watch the story affect the universe we're building in. Instead they made the worst possible decision ever. DLC NOT WORTH IT.
Reviews on steam tell a story, you did not. Why? Is it that bad or are you not allowed to talk about the content?
I am disappointed with this DLC. This is not what I was looking for in the game.
I don't want to be pressurised by a timer. Nor do I want "competition". I play the sandbox for relaxation, planning and just plain fun. Timelines is not for me. The new stuff should have been part of the update. I would be quite happy to pay for a proper update with new stuff. I do not want to have to buy Timelines just to get new stuff. I dread you and other gamers now playing on Timelines enabled systems that exclude those who do not have it.
You still get the free 7.00 update with all of its new features and changes, just like any other dlc, its seperate
@@TheRuggedGamer Yes I know that. You could have listed what new ships, equipment, sectors etc. Timelines gives you. I understand it gives no new stories or lore (other than these timed competitions). What does it unlock and how do you unlock it?
@Tattvadarzin. no one knows, ive had to dig into the game to find out, im working on getting details relessed in a vid this weekend, there isnt even an unlocked screen ingame (I even chexked with the devs)
No
No not at all. Save your money and use the timelines ship mod. Bam done no need to pay them for a crap experience. They were so out of touch whats next an action adventure rpg side scroll adventure without ships? Or why not a tactics rpg dlc where you have to fight on foot vs armies of xenon? i mean thats why we bought the game right? The devs guaranteed i wouldnt buy anymore dlc or x5
Timelines Is not Worth It I do not like space racing games of play the enemy bubble fish
No it’s not worth the money
I mean, it’s £12. Some games charge more than that for a cosmetic skin.
The patch is worth it but Timeline is garbage. Use our host's tutorials to learn what the tutorials cannot teach you like the subtle things. Timeline is a 1990s bad space shooter with flat missions lik eflat races, repetitive murder missions that brings nothing to you the player. It is obvious that RUclipsrs cannot bring down Timeline because they will not get paid by egosoft or get free games from them. So you cannot rely 100% on what youtubers say because as soon as they accept money or gift from developers, they stop being objective. Do not buy Timeline, it is horrible...just read the reviews and forums about it.
I mean ill give you my honest opinion about it which is what I did... Egosoft havent paid me or told ne what I can/cant say. I just got it early
@@TheRuggedGamer Okay, but some RUclipsrs gets presents or gets paid and that is when they lose their objectivity. RUclipsrs should think about that before accepting anything if they want to keep their credibility. I was not necessarily pointing fingers, just noting that some well known youtubers have little objectivity... they cannot talk negatively about a game that they were paid or given for free by the publisher or the dev. That would simply kill their rep with the dev and publishers. Which makes sense, you do not want to talk badly about things you were given or paid to show, that would just feel disrespectful. Thanks for the videos, you are doing a good job as usual. New X4 players should check out you X4 guide videos, that is how I have learned what I was missing. :)
@marystar1924 yep but there are ways around saying something is bad whilst staying objective sometimes
The improvements in the game might be worth it. Just play the open universe scenarios and skip timelines if you do not want to play it.
@@Hyperion1722 I refunded Timeline. Just too horrible and it does not contribute to the core game.
Not what I wanted, not what I expected. Their marketing was great, I thought it's something big. But what I see is a crappy DLC, totally not X4, not connected to the game itself, looks like utter BS. Refunded after 15 minutes.
Timelines sucks...I refunded it.
