- With farming in our near future, we are doing lots of research on what we want our farm to be. We decided to go on a farm tour! Specifically, the 2021 Winter Farm Tour, hosted by North Carolina Agritourism Networking Association. This group hosted a tour of 4 farms, and we jumped at the opportunity. We traveled to First Fruits Farm, Deans Farm Market, Sonlight Farms, and Hubb's Farm spending the day with local farmers who were incredibly knowledgeable in everything farm-related and more. One of my favorite things to do, as a city dweller, was to bring my children to a farm in Ontario called 'Springridge Family Farm'. They have a farmers bakeshop, gourmet food section, a beautiful a gift shop, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, strawberry fields, a corn maze and apples. There is plenty of space for families to relax and enjoy a beautiful day out. They have picnic tables sheltered by trees. It was always a fun day and we loved it!

I never comment on these videos, but all I have to say, is if you are planning a wedding venue, please do not place a huge cross (the first farm stop) on the wedding venue structure....as a man who was raised Christian, that married a fantastic Jewish woman...you’ll just isolate mixed religious marriages such as ours. I occasionally catch your videos, and for someone who grew up with gay friends and relatives, to see what progress the LGBQT community has made (even though there is more progress to be made) is inspiring. BTW we are going on 26 years of marriage and have raised two boys adopted from Korea who are now young men. Best of luck on your farm endeavor.

Good morning , Dustin and Burton, as we awaken to the potential of more snow than we have seen since returning to the United States upon our retirement. I suspected that you would have the same, since NC and TN seem to be in the same weather patterns. One more comment is that we are expecting .0.18 m more ,( 7 inches) .
Your tour, facilitated by an association of family farms with multi purposes, appears to be an idea that has crossed state lines. We read where the concept was born out of the “dude ranch” in the west. One such couple started such a ranch, and began to prepare meals for their guests. They developed Ranch recipe dressing, and eventually sold it to the original producer. Albert asked me if I told you about the paternal grandparental property in Doss, TX in the Hill Country and the section of land (640 acres) we owned, in the same way Burton made yours possible.
The difference was it was 1979-80, and we were ahead of the curve, as it were. Albert was finishing graduate school, and I was accepting a call as priest-in-charge of a parish in the region. His parents had long ago stopped working the “ranch”, leasing out most of the acreage for grazing. His elder brother, 21 years older, wife and age equivalent nephew, were moving to TN from TX to work the maternal grandparent land he inherited there. The Lord seemingly had other plans, as the missionary opportunities happened as if a miracle. I have fluency in six languages....all my undergraduate electives lol....

Now, , this episode, and that barn,,, what a chapel venue. It is spacious enough for the chapel with chairs and not pews, and the reception area for the rest of the space . I imagine that the military chapel concept. The concept is simple really...each denomination has its own liturgical requirements and its optional additions. On the back wall , there is either a moveable room divider with. Crucifix for Roman or National Catholics and Anglicans/Episcopalian and a cross for Protestant denominations or non denominational weddings.. others merely have a plain wall with crucifix, Cross, star of David, or just the word L O V E for those not interested in anything but a secular civil wedding. NB. For Catholic or Episcopal/Anglican priests, call it an honorarium, since the Sacrament of Marriage is not sold. In most countries, the couple goes to City Hall to be married civilly by the mayor. That’s it. They’re married. But if they want a Church wedding, it MUST be after the City Hall, since the Sacrament is not legal. US and Canada.....the clergy sign the legal marriage license. EVERY STATE HAS DIFFERENT LAWS.
ANOTHER interesting concept is leasing out to an artisan cheese maker......or as part of the lease, a certain expected income by percentage of revenue beyond the fixed rental portion. It can be cow, goat(chèvre) or ewe’s milk, as individuals can come and see the operation and buy the cheeses
not sold commercially. These ideas for families to survive come from mission lands I served for 40 years .I am excited for the plans you have. You have a comfortable home, and have a solid professional middle class lifestyle , but this is a goal, and aspirations for the future. Whatever the outcome ,you’ll hit the rocking chair as a nonagenarian couple, still in love, trying hard to remember each others’ names LOL

We are optimists and planning our 50th anniversary in 2025....the same year he graduates undergrad and by contract, begins Medical School. A private prestigious university , he earned a full ride for eight years. We both paid student loans until middle age LOL
We will have our event at your farm....if we’re alive that is LOL
The NC laws vary by county. Wake County NC varies where it can from state law. The law says that all wedding officiants in Wake County NC MUST be “ordained ministers”..( no, not an undergraduate degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in theology at the minimum) including that on line UNIVERSAL LIFE CHURCH MINISTER. I guess they have to, since they insist upon clergy, and “not Uncle Frank .” relative.unless he has a UEL online. When you’re at that point, I can help you find a list of ordained clergy, both men and women, but ordained from accredited seminaries so that you never will have legal marriage mess that a “jackboot minister” can create. I suggest you stay with accredited seminary trained mainline denomination ordained clergy.
