Another great addition I've found to this is to add a 2nd or 3rd layer and do another round of random for some really cool effects.

I just came across your videos today. Thanks for the videos on Christmas lighting. I recently came across the Falcon controllers and used the software this year to control my Halloween props but I'm going to "upgrade" my Christmas lights as well. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. Hook'em! EE '97

I always use CMD+Space and type xsched & enter. For some reason, the icons don’t get added on Mac.

OK Jeff You don't use the vamp plugins for Xlights? it does all the timing marks for you. Nice video well with a really big display I would say do the timing marks your way at that point. I love your videos Keep em Coming. Can't wait to see the Show.

I have the vamp plugins, but they put in way too many for this technique. I used it on my medley where I spent months sequencing and needed beat-level timing marks. This is for people just getting started and an easy way to get the lights blinking. Also, I'm no expert sequencer, but at least the neighbors haven't laughed at me yet. :)

Hi Jeff, way up in eastern Canada here. Your videos are excellent in many ways!
I played with vixen and FPP with a PI last year to produce a small christmas lightshow. This year I bought a bunch of pixels to improve it. I'm adding a pixel tree and 6 pixel arches which i'm having trouble setting up in Vixen. After watching your videos, I decided to try Xlights. Seems like it may be easier. I did not see the link to "Shawn's Xlight video" that you mentioned. Do you think Xlights is a good idea ?(I don't know much about Vixen yet so it may be a good time to switch). How do I find that video?
    Thanks,
    Dana

Thanks! I believe he pulled it since it went out of date, but Keith has an updated version I recently added to my beginner playlist. Yes, xLights is excellent! Not as pretty as Vixen, but has a ton of features and is updated regularly.

How do you get xshedule on a MacBook?

I believe it comes down with xLights. It's in the Mac App store.

I think I'm too new to ask programming/sequencing questions but will xlights work with LOR controllers/ incan lights? I know they won't do the same effects but for now I would like to incorporate some incan strings.

Yes. Check out the Wednesday night xlights call. It's not exactly like the LOR sequencer, but you can create AC sequences in xLights. I'm not totally sure on all of the details so it would be a good question on that call. I'm also not sure of how to interface to the LOR boards (assuming a dongle or Falcon DMX output).

Not sure but in your Falcon48 video you mentioned that a LOR controller could be connected to it..

Yes. The Falcon has a DMX output that supports DMX to LOR boards.
