Back in 72 or was it 73? I worked for Lionel when they were on 23 mile rd, in Mt Clemens Michigan. Midnight shift, injection molding plant. It was in November one night, that my manager Ed, told me that someone had left the warehouse door unlocked, just down the road. He instructed me to go there, enter the unlocked door, lock it, then to raise the overhead door, hit the close button, then run out, leaving the place secured. So, I went there (I grew up with and loved Lionel trains) and went into the warehouse. I had the whole place to myself, no one else around. I looked at all of the tall racks and shelves loaded with train sets to be shipped out, it was amazing, I thought to myself, This is Lionel Heaven! So, I did what was asked of me, locked the door and ran out of the overhead after hitting the close button, securing the place. That experience left me with a wonderful memory.

That was a great tour. I would like to take that tour someday. I am an American Flyer person, but I appreciate Lionel. I know Lionel now owns AF, so I wish there would have been some mention of it even if it's only a small part of the company. The only time I heard AF mentioned was in the test track room.

This was a great tour indeed!!! I think Lionel will continue produce American Flyer products in the future. I'm not sure why over these recent years why there hasn't been a push to S Scale. However, the scale is a very big part of Lionel. Hopefully we will see more in future years!!

SUPERB video and tour! BRAVO to both you Will and Lionel indeed! My first time on your channel and because this was so well done, I'm subscribing.
As a born and raised New Yorker and former NYCTA (New York City Transit Authority) employee back in 1983, I have a deep love for the subway system there as that was my introduction to railroading therefore I only own three Lionel sets: the tremendous Lionel NYCTA R30 subway set with automatic opening and closing doors and that feature alone makes the three sets of NYCTA subway models that Lionel produced the finest O-scale subway models ever produced.
They first released the R27, then the R30 and sadly the final subway model the R16. I'm still upset that they stopped there not offering anymore subway models. I also have two sets of the Metro-North railroad M7 and one set thus far of the LIRR M7 set to which they stopped producing those two NYC area railroad models, another disappointment.
Recently after finding my LIRR M7 set on eBay and needing parts, since the set is I believe more than 10 years old and parts weren't available from Lionel anymore, Lionel was nice enough to put me in touch with an authorised service centre that specialises in older hard to locate parts and I greatly appreciate that.
This terrific video has for me shed a new light on Lionel of greater respect. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thanks and all of the best to you as I'm looking forward to enjoying the content on your channel.

Will, thanks for this video. I was scheduled to attend LCCA at Concord and was going to do this tour but I had to cancel in mid-July. I didn't have enough leave from work. So i had to cancel. I still plan on going to York and seeing family in San Francisco. But it bummed as a Lionel guy. I have the 1630 on order through my local DC area hobby shop. I also have the SP E8/9 in Bloodynose. Did you see those samples on the tour? Any word on the Legacy Berkshires? I have the Chicago & Northwestern on order through my LHS. Did Lionel say why they stopped making the 15" aluminum passenger cars? It would be cool if Lionel did a MPC Vintage Celebration series. I grew up on that stuff in the 1980s and 1990s in high school and college. Again thanks for the video. Come to York!

Great vlog! Loved the tour. I just wish that Lionel would bring back some production to America/Canada/Mexico, like opening a small injection molding and assembly shop - and outfit it with automation and other modern manufacturing/assembly techniques so that maybe it could be competitive. You will never get close to the economies of scale or low hourly wage that China has, but some items could be brought back. I just don't like it when an iconic American brand gives up and just becomes a big warehouse with R& D and administrative departments.

I feel pricing on some of the products is over top for some young people. I also feel they are so into their Computer I phones and tablets. That a set is something out side of their generational understanding. They just can't relate to be honest.
