I began watching wrestling on a regular as a kid in 85. So when I first saw Piper, he was in the WWF. He definitely stood out to me but over the years as I've now watched plenty of footage before 85, I've found that he was even a greater heel/antagonist in the territories. He was so original and a talker that would make you laugh or make you mad. Sort of off the subject, the movie "They Live," which he starred in was a culmination of how far he could take that character. In an nutshell personality wise, he was really another level. Much Respect!
100% Correct. Piper was the best wrestling intertainer ever. Funniest guy in the history of wrestling. He would have been a great stand up comedian. RIP Roddy. Thanks for all the great memories. This interview would have been in 1982. The same year I started watching wrestling. Piper was my immediate favorite.
Just a couple of comments after watching the whole video. Patrick obviously couldn't say he got his start in wrestling being the Assassin's son. Piper seemed legitimately upset at being asked if it were fake but handles it well once he regained his composure. Funny that he mentioned George Scott as one of his toughest opponents, I'm guessing it was an inside joke as Scott was booker both in Mid Atlantic and Georgia while Piper was there. And finally, the interviewer mentions Hulk Hogan. If Piper only knew how Hulk Hogan was not only going to change his life, but the entire landscape of wrestling in the very near future, I doubt he himself would have even believed it.
I saw the old grainy video of the match Piper talked about where he beat Flair for the U.S title. That belt was shaped like the country. You could scratch your balls with the tip of Texas.
I've always Saud the same thing. Everything I watch Thress Company I always think Piper. The hair, face, on point. Piper was obviously a lot bigger. Ritter was probably a hundred and 40 pounds soaking wet
He had been training to become a wrestler and suffered a career-ending injury, his father had been in the business for at least 2 decades at this time and had friends so they found him something else to do in the business.

Pipers sarcasm about Tommy Rich is his inspirational wrestler.
Another great interview from piper.
Piper was perhaps the best heel ever.
Classic Roddy! RIP Rowdy Scot
Last Piper's advice WAS great.
The world miss you Roddy
The interview from the side of his face, he looks like a young Burt Reynolds.
No one, I repeat, NO ONE, chewed gum like Rowdy Roddy Piper.
AND KICK A$$!!
That nerd interviewer with his pocket protector! LMFAO!
Roddy during the Kayfabe days
Pi just see where this was recorded in 1982 Piper hadn’t had that ear buster of a match with Greg Valentine yet but I had hoped it had happened
Piper, the greatest ever. He had no equal.
I agree.
Rod Piper easily one of the greatest talkers in pro wrestling history !!!!

@@brianb.5473 Dick Slater and Austin Idol and Ernie Ladd and Lars Anderson with Rowdy Rod Piper top my list‼️👍🏻
@@JerichoMile4 Like all those guys . But Lars I never got to see. Saw Slater the most of those. He was great. They were all crazy.
Amazing
Too great HEELS in an early interview!

Very cool
Piper did give some excellent advice to aspiring young wannabe wrestlers.
I never seen this one.

Lol, he called piper a referee. That the same nick patrick from wcw?
Yeah, look a little different here in '82. Bushy hair, no gotee, much younger. hah
Duh.
Yes, THE ASSASSIN’s Son
Yes, the same ref who sided with NWO when it 1st started.
Roddy Piper looked just like John Ritter. Uncanny.
I've always Saud the same thing. Everything I watch Thress Company I always think Piper. The hair, face, on point. Piper was obviously a lot bigger. Ritter was probably a hundred and 40 pounds soaking wet
Piper seems like he is just not feeling this interview.
The coke was wearing off
Probably Roddy wanted to say sex perverts like Pat Patterson will bother you
He's just in character.
I don't like this Roddy too much. I felt like he was going to stand up and Pop that reporter right in the mouth
He's just in character.
Never knew Nick Patrick was a referee for that long.
He had been training to become a wrestler and suffered a career-ending injury, his father had been in the business for at least 2 decades at this time and had friends so they found him something else to do in the business.
Son of jody hamilton the original Assasin...
I liked piper better these days when he wasnt too much of a loud mouth in the late 80’s early 90’s
If there is one constant in Piper's career, it's that he never made it easy on the person interviewing him.
Boy Piper get nervous in interviews drilling his ear the whole time
Piper just a little different.
